Chapter 86 Jennifer Gets Angry

He said these words with an air of superiority, looking down on James. The men behind him also gathered around, mocking James together.

During their university days, they all had secret crushes on Jennifer. Now, after graduating and achieving success through years of hard work, they held more grudges against James.

If James had been more outstanding than them, it would have been acceptable for them. However, James happened to be a useless bum, so they wouldn't miss the chance to humiliate him.

"Yeah, Joel is the Marketing Manager of MH Group. Just ask him, and he'll arrange a job for you right away. After all, we are all old classmates with Jennifer. Since you are Jennifer's useless husband, helping you out is no big deal," one of the male alumni remarked in an arrogant tone.

James knew exactly what these people were up to - they were trying to insult him.

"There is no need for that, I have my own plans," James politely declined, not because he was backing down but because this was Jennifer's class reunion, and he didn't want to cause any trouble for her.

However, these people saw his politeness as fear and cowardice, making them even more contemptuous and dismissive of James.

"What are your plans, to continue living off Jennifer?" Joel directly insulted, no longer beating around the bush.

James set down his food, and stood up, towering over Joel by half a head. At that moment, Joel felt the pressure, making him very uncomfortable.

"What do you want?" he asked, taking two steps back, warily eyeing James, feeling somewhat afraid.

In that moment, the pressure James exerted on him was immense, almost like facing his immediate superior, making it hard for Joel to even breathe.

James didn't continue to intimidate him. Instead, he smiled and said, "Why do you seem to be afraid? I'm just getting up to stretch. I won't hit you."

Joel felt very displeased, regretting why he had stepped back earlier, feeling like he had lost dignity in terms of momentum!

One of his classmates asked, "Joel, what was that?"

Another questioned, "Yeah, you looked like you were scared by that useless James? Are you okay?"

Someone scoffed, "Joel, you can't even handle a good-for-nothing, a total loser like James."

Upon hearing these classmates' teasing, Joel snorted, saying defiantly, "Hmph, who said I was scared of him? Do you think that is possible? I just didn't want to go too far. After all, Jennifer is still here. If he runs to Jennifer and complains to her later, how will Jennifer see me?

"Besides, James is just a good-for-nothing. In the past two class reunions, Jennifer didn't even bring him along, showing that Jennifer also despises James. Why should I bother with such a useless person?"

He sounded confident in his words, but upon closer inspection, his logic was full of flaws and made no sense.

On Jennifer's side, she was surrounded by several female classmates. After discussing skincare matters, the conversation shifted to James.

A slightly chubby woman asked, "Jennifer, why did you bring James here this time? Weren't you coming alone the past two years?"

"Yeah, Jennifer, bringing James here, aren't you afraid he'll embarrass you like he did in the previous years?" a jealous female classmate spoke with a hint of sarcasm.

Jennifer smiled faintly and replied, "James has changed now, not as unambitious as before."

The previously sarcastic female classmate continued, "Really? The leopard can't change its spots. I think James is still the same as before. Jennifer, you are the beauty of our school, so many men like you. Why did you marry a man like James?"

Another female classmate chimed in, "Yes, Jennifer, with your great beauty and status, yet you're married to such a mediocre man? what a pity. Look at the male classmates in our class. Pick anyone randomly; they will be all the better than James!

"Take Joel for example, he may have gained some weight in recent years, but now he's successful, a marketing manager at a big company, earning a hefty salary! I heard his company is about to go public. His future is limitless!"

Someone else chimed in, "And Luke, he's doing well too, working for the government, having a good salary, a big house, a nice car, and parental support."

One added, "Yeah, we are all old classmates. We genuinely want the best for you. Some things need to be said directly. Jennifer, while you're still young and not past your prime, hurry up and divorce James!"

Once this topic was brought up, they couldn't hold back, urging Jennifer to divorce James. At first glance, it seemed like they were caring about Jennifer, but in reality, their tone was filled with malevolence, finding various ways to mock Jennifer.

In the past, Jennifer would have been furious upon hearing such remarks and then unleashed her anger on James. Now, she wouldn't react that way because she knew James was no longer the weak, useless person he used to be.

However, the mocking from these female classmates still irked her, and she couldn't help but say, "Who says James is useless? He knows Michael Brown, and he is Michael Brown's friend."

Someone among the female classmates remarked, bewildered, "Michael Brown?"

Another asked, "Who is Michael Brown?"

Several female classmates were puzzled, until one of them said, "I remember now, Michael Brown, isn't he the richest man in Lindwood City, the owner of Ql Hotel? Wait, Jennifer, when you mentioned Michael Brown, you weren't talking about this Michael Brown, right?"

Upon this classmate's reminder, they also recalled Michael Brown's identity, and after a moment of silence, they burst into laughter as if they had heard a hilarious joke.

Jennifer nodded proudly, and said, "That's right, he's the richest man in Lindwood City."

"Hahaha..." The previously sarcastic female classmate couldn't help but laugh, then loudly exclaimed, "Hey, everyone, let me tell you something. The husband of our campus beauty is a friend of Michael Brown, the richest man in Lindwood City and the owner of Ql Hotel."

She said it loudly, immediately drawing everyone's attention.

The content of her words was explosive, and after a brief silence, it was followed by a burst of laughter.

Jennifer frowned, extremely displeased. She stood up decisively and walked towards James.

This year's class reunion was more boring than before.

In previous years, she could chat with Harmony, but this year Harmony couldn't make it due to some last-minute issue. Faced with the cold sarcasm from these old classmates, she found it uninteresting.

Joel sneered, "Brooklynn, what did you just say? Jennifer's husband knows Michael Brown, the richest man in Lindwood City? Hahaha..."

Another scoffed sarcastically, "Come on, even if you want to make a joke, you don't have to say it like that. Why don't you just say tomorrow is doomsday?"

Someone added, "Yeah, if you want to cheer us up, just say it directly."

Joel and the others joined in the mockery, turning the ridicule of James into a lively entertainment segment, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Jennifer was instantly angered. How did these classmates turn out like this?!

She wasn't someone with a good temper, and she immediately turned to James indignantly.

Jennifer requested to James in a demanding manner, "James, call Michael Brown and have him come over! And they will just feel regret! It's so infuriating!"
