Chapter 629 Conspiracy
Hearing James' words, Sidney managed a smile, but the worry didn't leave his face. "Mr. Smith, something feels off this time. It's gotta be a setup."
James gave him a reassuring grin and clapped him on the shoulder. "Of course it's a setup. But why sweat it? Unless an Extreme Pathway master show up, I've got your back!"
Sidney wasn't on James' level, so he didn't have that same swagger. He just nodded, but deep down, he was already plotting how to play it safe later.
As the two of them reached the door, a strangely dressed servant came up and bowed, asking, "Are you Mr. Smith and Mr. Lawson from Sunlandia?"
James nodded, and the servant immediately led the two of them directly to the elevator.
In the private banquet hall on the top floor, two luxurious banquets with Aetheria characteristics were already prepared, and the Religion group was waiting for James and Sidney. However, Marcus was not among them.
The servant led James and Sidney to the door and then bowed and left. Inside, an elderly man with a rosy complexion appeared immediately. "Mr. Smith, Mr. Lawson, please come in!"
James stepped inside, Sidney trailing behind. The room was packed with more than a dozen Religion members, their presence thick with power—no doubt, they were heavy hitters. James raised a fist in greeting. "James Smith, from Sunlandia."
Sidney followed suit, introducing himself. An elder stepped forward. "I'm Richard Woods, a priest of Religion from Aetheria. These are our top-tier members. So, Mr. Smith, what's your take on our strength?"
James paused, then smirked. "If we're talking about pulling the wool over people's eyes, you guys are top-notch—better than any pyramid scheme out there. But when it comes to actual martial arts? Not so much."
The room went silent, faces in Religion twisting with anger. James just kept that icy grin. If they were already plotting against him, he wasn't about to play nice.
"Mr. Smith, we get it—you're young and cocky. But this is Aetheria, not some backwater like Sunlandia."
James narrowed his eyes, a smirk playing on his lips. "Are you calling Sunlandia a backwater?"
Richard puffed up his chest. "Isn't it?"
James let out a sharp laugh, then shot back with a sneer, "Compared to your arrogance, you Aetherians take the cake. Even if you've never set foot in Sunlandia, don't you watch the news? If Sunlandia's a backwater, then your place is a damn refugee camp."
The atmosphere instantly turned icy, and everyone in Religion glared at James and Sidney. Richard, however, sneered, "Even if what you say is true, so what? James, did you really think we invited you to a banquet?"
James scoffed. "Finally showing your hand? Most people wait until after the meal to pull their stunts, but you guys couldn't even wait that long. Is this how you Aetherians treat your guests?"
At this moment, a group of people had already surrounded James. Sidney swallowed hard and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Smith, what do we do now?"
James smiled, "I guess there are people outside too? To deal with me, you really put in a lot of effort. Since you are so shameless, don't blame me for being rude!"
After saying that, James warned Sidney to be careful, then released his energy, his body turning into a blur, and punched the leading strong man in the face. The strong man hurriedly raised his hand to block, but with a sound of bones breaking, James broke his arm with one punch and kicked him away.
After dealing with one person, the fists of the others also came at James, blocking his retreat. But James sneered, then his energy exploded, and he slapped a group of people with one palm.
With a violent impact, the palm print exploded in the small hall, and a group of people was thrown to the ground by James' palm. Those with slightly weaker strength kept coughing up blood and retreating.
"Damn it!" someone cursed, but no one dared to step up again. The gap was just too wide. James had taken out over a dozen guys with just one punch and one slap. Now, the only ones left standing were a fresh fourth-stage guy and five others barely hanging on at the peak of third stage.
The rest of the third-stage fighters were all taken down by James. Richard, who was at the peak of the third stage, was still standing. He glared at James with a face full of rage and demanded, "How the hell are you this strong?"
James just smirked. "You'll never figure it out. As for the rest of you lurking outside—you've been watching long enough. Time to step out and join the party."
After speaking, James turned his head, looked at a hidden camera in the corner, walked up to it, picked it up, and crushed it.
"Sidney, let's go. We can't play with these trash."
With that, James and Sidney stepped outside, only to be hit by a wave of intense killing intent. James glanced up and saw a middle-aged man with a calm expression and two guys in black, all standing in a triangle formation in the outer hall. James was right smack in the middle of their setup.
James narrowed his eyes. The vibe these three gave off was way stronger than anyone inside—they were definitely fourth-stage masters. And it was obvious they were used to fighting together, their teamwork making them a serious threat.
"You must be James?"
The kind-faced man was Marcus. He stared at James, his mind racing. He hadn't expected James to be this young and already at the fourth tier. Given time, Sunlandia would've had another powerhouse on their hands.
The thought of taking out a future legend from Sunlandia right here, right now—it sent a thrill through him.
James, however, said calmly, "So what if I am? Do you want to kill me?"
Marcus' previously kind expression changed, and he smiled slightly, "Yes, I want to kill you. To kill a future super strongman in the cradle is the will of God."
James sneered, "Really? The will of God is to write off past grievances. Since you violated the will of God, you can go to hell!"
As soon as James finished speaking, his body turned into a blur and charged at Marcus. Marcus was initially startled but then smiled coldly.
At the moment James moved, the two men in black and Marcus also moved together.
