Chapter 414 Illegitimate Child
James's words struck a nerve with Molly, inciting her fury and causing her to launch into a tirade of curses.
Jennifer was also taken aback, not expecting James to be so aggressive, directly cursing back on her behalf.
She felt deeply moved and held James's hand even tighter.
"Who are you to slander Molly like that? Are you asking for trouble?"
"Do you know where you are? I'll give you three seconds to apologize, or face the consequences!" The two young men immediately started shouting, pointing at James and cursing.
James said, "What? Do you want me to bring out the evidence? Coincidentally, I work in liposuction. Just last month, she had surgery on her face at that point."
James pointed to a spot on his own face.
Molly's pupils visibly contracted as her face showed guilt and surprise. Clearly, James had hit the mark. She stared at James intently and then said to Dennis, "Who is he to you?"
Dennis said, "He's my son-in-law."
"Make him apologize to me," Molly ordered.
Facing Molly's aggressive attitude, Dennis was already quite annoyed. If it weren't for the purpose of this visit, he would have left right then.
But James hadn't done anything wrong, and James was no longer the useless son-in-law he used to be. Now, James was a truly successful son-in-law who had helped him a lot recently. Asking James to apologize was something he couldn't bring himself to do.
James saw his dilemma, smiled, and said to Molly, "I'm sorry."
As she heard James's apology, Molly's face looked a bit better, but she still snorted heavily and said in a condescending manner, "Next time, watch your mouth. So rude. Is this how your family has taught you?"
She sarcastically mocked James.
Originally, James was willing to back down for Dennis's sake and not stoop to her level, but her comment made him change his mind. James had been no pushover since then. He immediately lowered his voice, just enough for Molly to hear, and murmured, "Only fatass with bad temper needs frequent liposuction."
James mastered the volume impeccably, making it sound as though he were muttering to himself, yet loud enough for all to hear. This left Molly no choice but to swallow her fury. Her face flushed with rage, and she glared at James as if she wished to devour him whole!
James deliberately put on an innocent look, making it impossible for Molly to vent her anger.
Jennifer, who had been in a bad mood, was amused by James's cheeky behavior and couldn't help but laugh.
Her chuckle made Molly even more uncomfortable, her face trembling with anger.
But there was nothing she could do. She was so angry that she almost had a heart attack.
Finally, she gritted her teeth and said, "You are despicable. Just wait and see!"
The angrier Molly got, the happier Jennifer felt. She originally didn't want to stay here long, but now she didn't mind as much. With James around, she felt an infinite sense of security.
In recent times, as long as James was by her side, she had never suffered any losses. This time was no exception.
Molly took a deep breath, forced herself to calm down, and said to Dennis, "Follow me. Many relatives are here today. Be careful with your words; not everyone has a temper as good as mine."
Dennis nodded, unable to contain his excitement.
Even though the Johnson Family had given him many unpleasant memories, he still wanted to return to the Johnson Family.
He clung to the hopeful notion that his father, Valor, might have altered his attitude toward him considering he had transitioned from childhood to the brink of grandfatherhood.
Moreover, with James's help, he had become successful in his career. Although he was far from matching the Johnson Family, he was still a relatively wealthy man and wouldn't bring shame to the Johnson Family. The Johnson Family should acknowledge his identity now.
The Johnson Family's mansion was indeed large and luxuriously decorated. As soon as they walked in, they felt the presence of wealth. The furniture inside was also high-end. Dennis and Kaitlyn walked in, their mouths agape, looking around in awe like they had never seen such opulence.
Jennifer, after a brief moment of surprise upon entering, quickly composed herself.
It was indeed a mansion, but so what? Jennifer didn't care at all.
Only James maintained a calm demeanor. It wasn't that he had strong mental fortitude, but rather that this level of mansion was nothing in his eyes.
The Smith Family's house was far more luxurious than this. If this was a mansion, then the Smith Family's house was a castle, not even in the same league.
Someone used to living in a castle wouldn't be shocked by a suburban villa. Clearly, it was impossible.
However, with a quick glance, James could roughly gauge the Johnson Family's strength. In Sunridge City, they were barely considered middle-class.
As James and the others followed Molly inside, they quickly attracted the attention of many people in the house, who all looked over.
Indeed, many relatives had come. Just in the first-floor living room, there were over a dozen relatives, more than half of whom were in their forties or fifties. They all knew Dennis. Seeing him, they were surprised and showed unusual expressions.
"Isn't that Dennis, the illegitimate child? Why is he back?"
"It really is him. How dare he come back?"
"Wasn't he kicked out over a decade ago? Why is he back? Did Valor call him back?"
"Impossible. Valor has always despised him and considered him a disgrace. Why would he call him back?"
"Who knows? Tomorrow is a holiday, and they're amending the family member list. Perhaps Valor has lost his mind and wishes to bring Dennis back into the family."
"I think that's unlikely. With Valor's personality, he wouldn't want Dennis back in the family. It's a lifelong disgrace for him."
"That's true."
Upon seeing Dennis, those who knew him started discussing, and without exception, they all looked down on him.
Dennis heard these words, which made him a bit angry.
Jennifer was very angry. She couldn't understand why Dennis had to come back and endure this humiliation.
"Sit here," Molly said coldly to Dennis, then walked away.
The place she pointed to wasn't the sofa in the living room but a few wooden chairs by the door, clearly meant for the household staff.
