Chapter 317 A Surprise for the Perry Family

So, everyone was like, "Yeah, that makes sense," nodding their heads.

But then, some folks who didn't know the scoop were all skeptical. "The Brown family? No way! Aren't they tight with the Perry family? Weren't they even planning a marriage alliance?"

Someone chimed in, "Nah, you got it wrong. That marriage thing was ages ago. Back then, Harmony Brown got sick with some weird disease, and the Perry family bailed on the engagement without even a heads-up. Totally dissed the Browns. So now, the Browns are super salty about it. If Mr. Perry got messed up, it's probably the Browns' doing!"

Others were like, "For real? That's wild!"

The ones who didn't know about this were totally shock, their eyes lighting up with curiosity. They were big shots in Lindwood City, but not powerful enough to reach the Perry or Brown family. Watching these two powerhouses clash was like prime entertainment for them.

Someone else piped up, "Now that you mention it, I don't see any Brown family folks here tonight."

"If it was really the Browns, how could the Perry family just let it slide?" another person asked, looking all puzzled.

Another voice added, "The Browns are one of the top dogs in Lindwood City, loaded with cash. Michael's got a ton of influence and is tight with Mr. Evans. Even if the Perry family wants payback, it won't be a walk in the park."

Then the person switched gears, "But if the Perry family teams up with the Flores family, it's a whole different ball game. The Flores might not be as rich, but their connections are solid. Once the Perry family joins forces with them, the Browns are in deep trouble, or worse, perish"

Another chimed in, "Just wait, the Perry family might strike back at the Browns soon."

Their heated gossip was so on point that James found it hilarious. They had no clue the guy they were talking about was right there.

James realized from their chatter that the Perry family was a big deal in Lindwood City, like top-tier.

This made him even more pumped to see their faces when he finally revealed himself.

Thinking about it, he glanced at the jittery Kieran next to him and gave him a pat on the shoulder. "Kieran, thanks, man."

Kieran was racking his brain on how to impress James. Sitting next to him, he felt more and more on edge because of James's intense vibe. Just as he was lost in thought, James's pat nearly made him jump out of his skin and slide under the table.

His over-the-top reaction caught the attention of the people around them, who shot him annoyed looks.

James was like, "Dude, what's up? Are you that scared of me?"

"James, I haven't said a word. I didn't tick you off, did I?" Kieran was freaking out. Even when James smiled, it felt like he might get slapped any second.

This was a new level of fear for him, something he hadn't felt even when he was at rock bottom.

Seeing Kieran's freaked-out face, James couldn't help but laugh. "Dude, chill. Am I that scary? Sit up straight. You're the boss of a crew. Don't slouch. Act like a boss, okay?"

Kieran felt even more bummed out, almost ready to cry. 'James, you know I'm in charge, so why are you messing with me?' he thought.

"No way, you're kidding. In front of you, I'm nobody." Kieran slouched even more, pouring wine for James with such humility that it made James feel kinda bad.

Knowing Kieran was scared stiff, James didn't push it. He patted Kieran's shoulder and said, "Kieran, you don't have to be so scared of me. Just listen, and I won't kill you."

Kieran forced a laugh, not buying it for a second.

James shrugged it off and continued, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have pulled this off tonight."

Kieran was on the verge of asking what he meant but thought better of it as the earlier incident came to his mind.

Soon, James's attention shifted.

A group of people showed up, led by Asher and Uriah, along with other Perry family members and some equally fancy folks from the Flores family.

Seeing them, James's eyes narrowed.

Asher was grinning ear to ear, and Uriah looked just as pumped, standing tall with a confident smile. He was the picture of young success.

Admittedly, Uriah was a cut above the rest men here, his vibe overshadowing everyone else. With his rising power, he even outshone Asher.

Next to him was a stunning woman, clinging to his arm.

This was obviously Charlotte Flores, the star of the night and soon-to-be Uriah's fiancée.

She was drop-dead gorgeous, tall and slender, with makeup that made her look extra alluring.

But James could tell right away that beneath Charlotte's innocent facade was a flirty, seductive heart.

He touched the gift on the table meant for Uriah, a sly smile playing on his lips.

He could already picture Uriah's amazement when she got this gift!

Then came the speeches. Asher kicked things off, thanking the guests and talking about how awesome the marriage alliance with the Flores family was.

Asher was glowing with happiness, and his speech got a lot of applause.

Kieran was super excited. It was his first time being this close to the Perry family, and he clapped louder than anyone. Thinking about James introducing him to the Perry family later, he was over the moon.
