Chapter 469 Lisa Savoy
The news of James' return was like a bomb dropping on a calm lake, stirring up waves with rage.
And the situation only escalated, with discussions growing louder. Some even wanted to find an excuse to visit the Smith manor to see if James had really returned.
A week passed, and James still hadn't appeared. No one in the City of Mysteries had seen him; they had only heard the news. Gradually, most individuals began to doubt the authenticity of the information.
As was well-known, James was the kind of arrogant and domineering man who exuded a volatile energy. He was flamboyant by nature. If someone like him had really returned to the City of Mysteries, how could he not show up for a whole week? Given James' usual personality, he should have appeared the very next day, announcing his return with an absolute kingly demeanor.
But James hadn't, which was very unusual.
So more and more individuals began to suspect that the news of James' return was fake, a hoax.
After all, this wasn't the first time in the past five years that rumors of James' return had circulated, only to turn out to be jokes.
The reason this time caused such a stir was that the news came from within the Smith family, even claiming that Wylie had been defeated by James easily.
Meanwhile, at the Smith manor, James and Saxon were playing Go. Saxon placed a stone and said, "Aren't you planning to go out? The whole City of Mysteries is talking about your return, waiting for you to show up."
Playing with the white pieces, James placed a chess piece in Saxon's camp, in an exceedingly cunning position, nullifying Saxon's offensive and revitalizing what seemed to be a lost game.
"I'm quite comfortable staying at home," James said with a smile.
Saxon looked deeply at James. Even though he had been with James for a week, he still found it unbelievable how much James' personality had changed, as if he were a different person! Sometimes, he even doubted whether this mature and reserved young man in front of him was really his son.
In the past, if James had returned after five years and found the City of Mysteries in such a changed state, he would have immediately gone out to assert his dominance and announce his return as the city's top talent.
But now, a week had passed since James' return, and he hadn't stepped out of the Smith manor, not even for the Serenity Haven Hotel chairman position handover, which was conducted at home.
Moreover, Saxon could tell that James wasn't deliberately trying to maintain an air of mystery to prove he had changed; he genuinely didn't want to go out, having transcended such trivial interests.
In fact, almost everyone in the Smith family hoped James would go out and, like five years ago, assert his dominance and announce his return. They even wanted him to face off against the geniuses of the Ward family and the Stewart family.
Others might not know, but as a father, Saxon was well aware that James had the capability. At the fourth stage of martial arts, there were fewer than five martial artists in the entire City of Mysteries who could match him. Among the younger generation, he was unparalleled.
However, James did not do so, causing many people nearby to become anxious.
"When the time is right, you still need to go out," Saxon said, placing a black stone among James' many white stones, exuding a sense of danger.
James smiled and nodded, then placed a white stone on the board with two fingers. "Dad, I win."
Saxon looked down in surprise, realizing he had indeed lost, without any warning. Just moments ago, he had the upper hand, surrounding James. How had he lost so quickly?
Saxon furrowed his brows and stared at the board for a while before understanding what had happened. He couldn't help but applaud. "Brilliant! I haven't seen such a beautiful game in a long time. You set a trap for me from the very beginning, waiting for me to fall into it."
James smiled, "Shall we continue?"
Saxon shook his head as he stood up. "No, your skill has far surpassed mine. Continuing would be pointless."
James also stood up and followed Saxon out.
Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa in the City of Mysteries, a woman in a fiery red dress was lounging on a couch, legs crossed, half her body sinking into the cushions. She was reading a foreign fashion magazine.
This woman is extraordinarily beautiful; every inch of her skin radiates health and a dewy suppleness, brimming with elasticity. Her features, though common in nature, are arranged in such an exquisite manner that she epitomizes angelic perfection.
Moreover, her figure was equally sexy, embodying all the best qualities of a woman.
Even Jennifer, Harmony, and Emberlyn paled in comparison to her.
This woman was not only exceptionally beautiful but also had an outstanding aura.
She was Lisa Savoy, the second daughter of the Savoy family and the fiancée arranged for James by Alistair.
Her name was Lisa, and she indeed lived up to it, being one of the three great beauties of the City of Mysteries.
She was lazily reading a fashion magazine, her mere presence making her the center of the room.
In front of Lisa, a pretty woman frowned slightly as she spoke to Lisa. "Ms. Savoy, are you really going to marry James? I heard he's already dead."
She was Heather, Lisa's maid and assistant, who had been with her since she was five.
"This is the family's decision. As a member of the family, I naturally have to obey," Lisa said with a sly smile, her words clearly teasing. She had no intention of obeying the family's will.
Heather knew this but was still curious. For a woman as outstanding as Lisa, only the greatest hero in the world would be worthy of her.
And in Lisa's eyes, James was not qualified.
Heather said, "I don't understand the family's intention. Among the three great families, the Smith family is the weakest, while the Stewart family is the strongest. Neil Stewart, the young master of the Stewart family, has long been infatuated with you, Ms. Savoy. Wouldn't it be better to marry into the Stewart family than the Smith family?"
Lisa remained silent as Heather continued, "Besides, James is very ostentatious and has a bad temper. He's not as good as Neil. I heard that Neil is already at the peak of the third stage of martial arts, just one step away from the fourth stage."
