Chapter 29 Neighbor Elena Martin

Upon hearing James's words, everyone turned to look at him. Tony, fearing he might kick them while they were down, glared fiercely at him, and said, "James, what are you doing? You have no say in this!"

Others also looked at him disapprovingly, thinking he was overstepping his bounds.

Ignoring Tony, James walked up to Mr. Rogers. Today, he was dressed in a suit and with a styled haircut, looked much more handsome than yesterday.

Mr. Rogers didn't recognize him at first and scolded him with a furrowed brow, "Who the hell are you, and why should I give you any face?"

"Enough, James, come back here and stop causing trouble!" Marvin reprimanded.

James remained unfazed, smiling as he said, "Mr. Rogers, it seems you've forgotten. That top-grade jadeite was personally acquired by me yesterday."

Hearing these words, Mr. Rogers' complexion instantly altered, and a realization dawned upon him; he drew a sharp intake of cold breath, "You, you're Dennis's son-in-law?!"

"You remembered me," James remarked and stared at Mr. Rogers with a smirk.

He continued, "Mr. Rogers, you just mentioned that Leonard stole top-quality jadeite worth over $350,000, facing a minimum sentence of ten years. I wonder if you were to secretly switch Dennis's top-quality jadeite, how many years would you be looking at?"

Upon hearing this, Mr. Rogers' face immediately turned pale.

Dennis stepped forward, berating Mr. Rogers, "You scoundrel, I've been looking after your business for years, and today, you dare cheat me by switching my top-grade jadeite! If you don't give me an explanation, we're over!"

Seeing Dennis, Mr. Rogers's expression turned even uglier. He quickly said, "Misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding! Dennis, we're old friends; you said it yourself. I wouldn't cheat you.

"It was indeed my blunder today; I unintentionally switched your jade piece. See, haven't I proactively brought it back to you? I'll take you out for a meal later to cool your anger. Chill, chill out."

Mr. Rogers changed his attitude, nodding and bowing to Dennis.

This scene left the entire Hill Family dumbfounded, never expecting things to unfold this way.

Dennis is genuinely ecstatic to see the faces of those relatives. He's exhilarated from the top of his head to his toenails!

"Misunderstanding? When you were scolding my relatives earlier, why didn't you mention it was a misunderstanding?" Dennis snorted.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Mr. Rogers kept nodding and bowing, eventually offering two hundred thousand as compensation before Dennis let him go.

As Mr. Rogers and his group left the private room crestfallen, the atmosphere turned awkward, leaving the entire Hill Family feeling as uncomfortable as if they had eaten feces.

Dennis gloated, "So, satisfying! This has really made Tony lose face; let's see if he dares to brag about how awesome his son-in-law is in the future."

Exiting the hotel, Dennis was beaming with joy.

Kaitlyn nodded in agreement, "Yes, it's truly gratifying. Thanks to James this time, he opened the door and ran into Mr. Rogers; otherwise, we would have been looked down upon."

For once, Dennis refrained from mocking James. He had witnessed the whole incident and knew he wouldn't have stolen the spotlight without James's intervention.

But he couldn't bring himself to say thank you. In his eyes, James was just lucky, stumbling into the situation by chance.

James paid no mind to these thoughts. He smiled faintly, suddenly noticing something. He touched his face and looked to the side, asking, "Is there something on my face?"

Jennifer had been staring at him, making him feel uneasy.

She asked, "How did you know Mr. Rogers and the others were right outside?"

"I guessed," James bluffed. He couldn't mention that his seals had loosened a bit, making his hearing much sharper than an average person's, allowing him to hear the voices.

However, Jennifer perceived this as showing off, which instantly irked her. "Hmph, spill it or keep it; I don't care!" she said.

James was baffled; how had he managed to upset her again?

Even when they went to bed, Jennifer didn't speak to James, leaving him to sigh in understanding—truly, a woman's heart is as deep as the ocean.

Jennifer, their department's most outstanding doctor, had been sent by the hospital to a neighboring city for a three-day symposium. She had left early that morning.

Dennis and Kaitlyn had gone to hang out with friends, leaving James alone at home. Feeling bored, he took out his phone and sent a message to a number with six consecutive eights.

James: [The five-year deadline is approaching. When will you come to pick me up?]

Ten minutes passed, but there was no reply.

James sent another message.

James: [I've been waiting for five years. What do you want me to do?]

Finally, the other person replied.

Unknown person: [The deadline is extended by a month.]

Upon reading this, James jumped up, cursing. He quickly replied.

James: [Why???]

However, the other person did not respond, leaving James fuming. He clenched his fists, a powerful aura emanating from him. If anyone had been present, they would have been trembling in fear.

Eventually, James calmed down, took a deep breath, and decided that since half of his seals had been undone, he would soon return to his normal state. He wouldn't have to endure these days for much longer.

Having come to this realization, he let go of his frustration and went out for a walk.

Upon returning from buying groceries in the afternoon, he found the elevator out of order and had to take the stairs. As he passed the fifth floor, he heard a scream coming from a neighbor's apartment across the hall. Sensing something was amiss, he immediately walked over and knocked on the door.

After a few knocks with no response and the screams still ongoing, he called out, "Elena, are you okay?"

Having lived there for a few years, James generally knew who lived in each unit.

Currently, a divorced woman named Elena resides in that apartment. She had a good personality and was one of the few neighbors who didn't view James with suspicion.

Still no response. The screams continued, growing more intense. James furrowed his brow, preparing to break in when the door finally opened.

A beautiful woman appeared in front of James. He was about to speak, but upon seeing her attire, he quickly averted his gaze and felt a bit embarrassed.

The woman was actually wrapped in a towel, and her wet hair indicated that she had just showered. Although she had covered up appropriately, the situation was still awkward.

Especially with a hint of bare skin visible on her chest, James's heart raced just at the sight of it.

"James, it's you. What brings you here?" she asked.

James replied, "I heard your voice as I passed by and thought something was wrong. Since everything seems fine, I won't disturb you."

But the lady named Elena acted as if she had found her knight in shining armor, dragging James inside her apartment, "Right, right, it's so good that you're here, James. Quickly, help me out!"
