Chapter 178 Truly Healed
James gave Jennifer a gentle nod, offering her a reassuring look, and said, "Dr. Johnson, I'll go prepare the tools for you."
"Alright," Jennifer said. At this point, she had no choice but to gather the courage and go through with it, placing her hopes on James, hoping he wasn't just making empty promises.
James quickly brought over the necessary items: a basin, a box of silver needles, and a towel. Seeing these simple tools, the onlookers couldn't help but scoff again.
To them, James seemed utterly clueless—how could he possibly cure food poisoning with just these three items? They found the idea laughable, even suggesting that such a method was playing with the patient's life.
Jennifer also frowned deeply and whispered, "Why did you bring me silver needles? I don't know how to use them!"
She began to regret listening to James.
"This is ridiculous, using acupuncture for food poisoning? Does he even know how to treat illnesses?"
"Exactly, even I know that food poisoning requires stomach pumping. Using acupuncture here is just playing with someone's life!"
"Yeah, are they really doctors?"
"Stop talking, they know Mr. Evans. They might have you all arrested for what you say."
Mockery and skepticism filled the crowd's murmurs. Though they spoke cautiously, their words were loud enough for Jennifer and James to hear.
Otis, who had clung to a glimmer of hope, began to waver. "Doctor, are you really going to use acupuncture? Isn't that risky?"
His face looked troubled.
Jennifer also didn't believe that acupuncture could cure him. She bit her lip, unable to say anything for a moment. James said, "There's nothing wrong with it. Stomach pumping is very harmful to the body. Acupuncture can expel the toxins from your nephew's body with minimal damage. Time is of the essence; Dr. Johnson needs to start the treatment."
Then James directly handed the silver needles to Jennifer, whispering in her ear, "In a moment, I'll remove the patient's clothes. Just insert the needles into the points I indicate."
"Alright!" Jennifer nodded vigorously, taking a deep breath. At this point, she had no way out and could only grit her teeth and go through with it.
Taking on the role of assistant, James helped the young boy undress and indicated the acupuncture points to Jennifer. Although Jennifer wasn't a seasoned acupuncturist, she had some basic knowledge from her second major in traditional Chinese medicine during her university days. With James's instructions, she focused her mind and began to needle the boy.
Of course, relying solely on such simple acupuncture couldn't possibly cure food poisoning. James was secretly massaging the little boy and channeling a faint stream of energy into his body to help expel the toxins. As for Jennifer's acupuncture, it was merely to stimulate the boy to vomit the toxins from his stomach.
Five minutes passed, and the little boy showed no signs of movement. Mocking voices rose again around them, and sweat appeared on Jennifer's forehead.
Finally, after Jennifer inserted the last needle, James suddenly pressed on the little boy's stomach and aimed his face at the basin on the ground.
Otis, who had been watching anxiously, could no longer hold back when he saw James's action. He stepped forward and shouted, "What are you doing to my nephew...?"
Before he could finish, the boy, who had been silent until then, suddenly retched loudly, expelling vividly colored mushroom fragments into the basin.
After he finished, the boy's expression immediately improved, and he no longer looked as frightening as before. Most importantly, he could speak.
"Uncle, my stomach doesn't hurt anymore."
Upon hearing this, Otis was stunned, his eyes wide open. Tears streamed down his face as he rushed forward and tightly hugged the boy. "Thank goodness, Justin, you're finally okay. You scared me to death!"
As for the many onlookers, their mocking expressions froze on their faces, leaving them dumbfounded and looking quite ridiculous.
Jennifer was also stunned. She had actually prepared herself for failure, but she hadn't expected that the patient would truly be cured. It was beyond her expectations.
James chuckled and said, "There's still some residue in his stomach that needs to come out. Here, have him drink this bottle of water."
The little boy, who was also thirsty, quickly drank the water. Then, James had Jennifer insert a few more needles. This time, the boy quickly vomited again. Afterward, his complexion had returned to a healthy color, and he looked much more spirited.
Sweating profusely, the boy's body had expelled a significant amount of toxins. Although not entirely cured, the situation was no longer life-threatening. With a few days of herbal medicine, all the toxins would be fully expelled.
James said, "Now that the poisonous mushrooms in your nephew's stomach have been expelled, there are still toxins remaining in his body. He needs to take medication for a few days to gradually expel them. During this time, he might experience fever symptoms, which are normal reactions. You don't need to worry."
Otis's lips trembled, his expression extremely emotional, and he didn't know where to place his hands and feet. He expressed his immense gratitude to Jennifer, "Thank you, miracle doctor, thank you! You are truly amazing!"
Jennifer, flustered by his emotional display, instinctively looked towards James.
James prepared the medicine and handed it to Otis, saying, "Saving lives is our duty as doctors. Boil these herbs into a soup and have him drink it twice a day, morning and evening, for five days. After that, the toxins will be completely expelled."
Otis took the medicine package, thanked them profusely, and left excitedly after paying the bill.
With this, everyone's gaze towards Jennifer changed. Their expressions turned to guilt and admiration.
"She is a miracle doctor. Her skill is incredible!"
"I told you, don't judge a book by its cover. Dr. Johnson may look young and beautiful, but her medical skills are just as impressive!"
"Truly amazing."
Many expressed their admiration openly. They had witnessed everything firsthand and felt remorseful for their earlier skepticism toward Jennifer.
Jennifer, receiving so much admiration and respect, felt quite embarrassed because she knew it wasn't her who had cured the boy. The real hero was James.
James, standing beside her, winked at her, signaling not to waste this opportunity to establish a good image in front of the neighbors. Jennifer had no choice but to accept everyone's praise, she started waving her hands towards the crowd.
Even so, her face remained flushed, and her feelings for James grew even stronger.
