Chapter 635 Scorpio and Rose Thorn

"Should we just blow it off?" Sidney paused, then asked.

James hesitated too, then gave a slight smirk. "Let's check it out. Maybe someone's actually stuck."

With James' words, Sidney didn't argue and followed him toward the cries for help. A few minutes later, they spotted the source.

A young woman in her twenties, dressed in athletic gear, standing by a small stream in a low part of the canyon. She was strikingly beautiful, her long hair pulled back into a practical ponytail, giving off a capable vibe. In her arms was an elderly man who looked like a professor, his gray hair and wild, unkempt beard giving him a scholarly air.

Seeing James and Sidney, the woman became a bit excited. "Can you save my teacher? Please, I beg you."

She looked frantic, cradling an old man whose face was pale blue, one leg already black—clearly poisoned.

"Snakebite?" Sidney blurted out. As a top-tier NSA agent, he knew the signs.

James frowned slightly, then said flatly, "Go handle it. Detox him."

For an elite of the National Security Agency, detoxifying was a simple task, so James didn't need to do it himself. While Sidney was detoxifying the old man, James stood by quietly watching.

Sidney's detoxifying technique was very professional. A few minutes later, the old man's blackened leg slowly returned to normal, and his face regained some color. Seeing this, the woman cried with excitement, "I thank you on behalf of my teacher, thank you! You are truly good people!"

The woman was thin and weak, with a delicate face, and her tearful appearance made even Sidney feel a bit uncomfortable. "Hey, no big deal. Just doing what we can. You're from Sunlandia?"

She nodded softly. "I'm Bronte Langley. This is my teacher, Professor Rufus Chapman. We came here for research, but this happened just two days in. If you hadn't shown up…" Her voice trailed off, but the relief was clear.

Sidney wanted to say something, but James said lightly, "Since we've saved him, let's go."

With James speaking, Sidney naturally had to listen. But just as they turned to leave, Bronte suddenly called out, "Gentlemen, please wait!"

James turned around, a smile on his lips, "What is it? Is there something else?"

"Benefactors, the direction you are heading is deep into the canyon. There are many fierce beasts ahead, it is very dangerous. Besides, I haven't properly thanked you for saving us. I would like to invite you to our camp for a rest."

Sidney was a bit tempted, but James hesitated. Seeing this, Bronte continued, "Also, I can't carry my teacher. Could you please help me?"

Sidney looked at James and said, "Mr. Smith, how about it?"

James smiled, "Alright, you go carry Professor Chapman."

Hearing this, Sidney immediately went to carry Professor Chapman and said to Bronte, "Take us to your camp. We could use a rest too."

Bronte finally showed a warm smile and nodded softly. Sidney, catching her smile, blushed a little. James rolled his eyes and muttered, "Alright, let's move. It's getting dark."

Bronte's camp was tucked under a massive rock overhang. The natural alcove shielded it from the elements, making it a solid spot for a base. From the look of things, plenty of folks had hunkered down here before—the ground was worn, and traces of past fires dotted the area.

After Sidney placed Professor Chapman in the tent, Bronte started boiling water. "Gentlemen, please sit, I'll cook some noodles for you."

Sidney smiled, "Ms. Langley, there's no need to be so polite."

"It's no trouble. By the way, I don't know your names yet."

Sidney was about to speak, but James interrupted, "I'm James, and he's Sidney. Ms. Langley, you don't need to trouble yourself. We have things to do, so we'll be leaving now."

Bronte opened her mouth to speak, but James cut her off, grabbing Sidney and heading out. But as Sidney got to his feet and took a couple of steps, he suddenly wobbled, then dropped to the ground, his eyes wide with panic. "What the hell's going on?" he gasped.

As soon as he finished speaking, James also collapsed beside him, his face towards Sidney, a look of fear in his eyes. "Who are you? We saved you, and you poisoned us?"

Bronte, who was boiling water, suddenly changed her demeanor, standing up straight with a playful look on her beautiful face. "I didn't expect your vigilance to be so high. No wonder you could kill Slayer. But what good is vigilance? Kindness is your greatest weakness!"

Sidney finally realized and shouted in regret, "You, you are from the Godslayer Organization?"

"That's right," came the firm reply. "I'm Scorpio." A strong voice echoed, and out stepped the old man, now fully recovered, striding forward with no trace of the poisoning that had supposedly crippled him.

Sidney finally realized it was all a trap. He had detoxified Professor Chapman and carried him, giving Scorpio plenty of chances to poison him. Unfortunately, he was too focused on saving people and let his guard down.

Thinking of this, Sidney smiled bitterly, "So you are Scorpio? And Bronte is a fake name?"

Bronte paused, then laughed, "Bronte is indeed my name, but I also have another code name, Rose Thorn!"

A poisonous Scorpio and a thorny Rose, two top assassins. The Godslayer Organization really invested a lot to deal with James.

Sidney asked in regret, "Since you've succeeded, are you going to kill us or take us to see your King?"

Scorpio walked up to Sidney, a cold smile on his lips. "You are not qualified to see our King."

Then Scorpio looked at James. "Our King is quite interested in you. So your life is temporarily spared."

James rolled his eyes, then subtly signaled Sidney. "If you want me," he said to Scorpio, "let my friend go. If you don't, I'll make sure you fail your mission, even if it kills me. Go ahead, test me!"
