Chapter 343 One-on-One?

Keith and Ivan were totally floored. They looked at James like he was a complete moron, thinking he was asking for trouble by showing off in front of Walter.

Just by checking out James' getup, it was clear his whole outfit was worth, like, twelve bucks tops. Judging by his cheap outfit, it was obvious James wasn't from any big-shot family. At best, he was just a regular working stiff. In their eyes, a working stiff was just a broke man. A broke man daring to go up against Walter for a chick and showing off in front of him? That was straight-up suicidal.

But Emberlyn's and James' reaction to the whole thing was totally different from Keith and Ivan's. She was super excited, her face all flushed and full of admiration and awe.

Yep, this was the vibe she had missed. The dashing James was back along with his youthful vitality.

What Emberlyn loved most about James was how he played it weak in front of big shots, only to come back and totally wreck them later.

James wasn't pretending on purpose. He just didn't like Walter.

Walter was so weirded out that he burst into a fit of angry laughter. "Refuse me? You dare refuse me? I'll make you regret ever being born. No one has ever dared to defy me. No one."

At that moment, he straightened up like a javelin, exuding this crazy confident aura that was super intimidating. Everyone in the restaurant was freaked out. Some women even had their hearts racing.

In words, Walter might seem all hot-blooded and self-righteous. In reality, no one thought he was. They were just intimidated by his imposing presence.

First off, Walter was tall and not particularly handsome but had this natural masculine vibe. Coupled with his innate domineering presence, it was clear he wasn't just some ordinary citizen but someone with real power and influence.

James laughed, "Now I get why Emberlyn doesn't like you."

Walter's face turned even uglier when he heard this, his mouth twitching violently as he glared at James. "This is my final warning. Leave Emberlyn immediately, or I'll make you die a horrible death."

His words were so harsh that even customers far away could feel the fright of his intense killing intent. But James, facing this terrifying threat, didn't even blink like he hadn't heard it. Instead, he turned to Emberlyn and said, "Did your parents really want you to marry this guy?"

"Yes, I'm so over it. That's why I bailed this time. I really don't want to go back." She turned to James. "James, I won't go back anymore. Will you take me in? I wanna have lots of kids with you," Emberlyn said, her eyes sparkling like she was imagining a beautiful scene. She even licked her lips.

"Cut the nonsense and order some food. I'm starving," James said irritably.

"Me, too. Let's eat and then crash," Emberlyn said, throwing a shy look to rile up Walter. "Walter, why are you still here? Aren't you gonna leave or you are waiting for my man to kick you out?" she added.

Seeing them team up so well, flirting right in front of him, and treating him like air, Walter was fuming. His body shook, and his face turned beet red.

"Enough!" he suddenly shouted, his voice so loud it startled a bunch of guests. Most of them were rich or had some clout. Some got ticked off and stood up to show their displeasure, but Keith and Ivan quickly shut them down. Feeling humiliated, they called for backup. Keith and Ivan each made a call, and the guests were immediately subdued. They finally realized Walter and his crew were not to be messed with and quickly quieted down.

Walter's eyes were bloodshot as he glared at James. "If you're a man, come out and fight me one-on-one! Let's see if I don't kill you," Walter shouted.

James didn't even flinch, but Emberlyn's eyes lit up with excitement, eagerly looking at James, with a hint of hope that he'd agree and teach Walter a lesson.

Others might not know, but Emberlyn was well aware of James' strength. Walter was no match for James.

James acted like he didn't hear, holding the menu and saying to the waiter, "I'll have these."

To everyone else, his reaction seemed like a sign of weakness. They all looked at him with mocking expressions.

Especially Walter, who sneered, "What? Are you scared of fighting me one-on-one? Are you admitting you're not a man?"

Keith and Ivan immediately chimed in, "Of course he's scared. Look at his build. Even ten of him wouldn't be a match for you, Walter."

"Exactly. This coward is just showing off because he has a woman protecting him. I despise a man like him. What a loser!"

With their support, many in the restaurant began to think that James was afraid of Walter and didn't dare to fight him one-on-one.

James' five years of life had already forged a strong mindset. This kind of humiliation meant nothing to him. He simply ignored it.

Emberlyn didn't have his calm demeanor and was already furious. She huffed, "James, fight him. Knock Walter down. It's outrageous that someone like him dares to challenge your authority."

James pushed the menu to Emberlyn and said calmly, "I've finished ordering. See if you want anything else."

Seeing James' indifferent attitude, Emberlyn became even angrier, her face turning red with heavy breathing, and gritting her teeth. "James. Did you hear what I said? Go fight him."

Sitting across from them, Theodore and the driver were also puzzled, especially Theodore. He already knew James' identity and had heard some of his past exploits. By all accounts, James should be unable to tolerate such insults and should have already knocked Walter down.
