Chapter 470 An Old Acquaintance
Lisa didn't respond; she was still engrossed in her magazine.
"Ms. Savoy, are you truly planning to marry James?" Heather exclaimed, her eyes widening with concern. To her, James could not possibly compare to Neil.
Lisa finally closed her magazine, looked up, and retorted, "Why not? Before James disappeared, he was undoubtedly the best of the younger generation in New York City. Neil can't compare to him."
Heather remarked, "That's because Mr. Stewart was overseas working as a mercenary and hadn't returned. Now, in just two years since his return, he has already become one of the very best."
Neil, the most gifted prodigy of the Stewart family, was sent to a renowned training camp in Frostreach at the age of seventeen. Enduring the most rigorous training, he faced numerous life-or-death situations and emerged as a formidable mercenary. Abroad, he achieved countless military triumphs, earning a fearsome reputation.
Two years ago, he returned from overseas to serve his family. In just two years, under his leadership, the Stewart family had continuously risen in power and now had the momentum to become the top family in New York City.
In New York City, only the Ward family could still compete with the Stewart family. The Smith family, once the top family, had now fallen to third place.
Given time, the Smith family would be completely removed from the top three families in New York City.
As for Wylie and Usher, they were completely disregarded.
Neil only had one rival in his view, the genius of the Ward family, Maurice Ward.
"Not necessarily. I met James seven years ago; he's a true prodigy. He's been missing for five years, and his strength is likely even greater now. Neil may not be able to defeat James," Lisa said, splaying her hands. Heather, understanding her cue, handed her a glass of red wine. Lisa brought it to her lips, a sip with an elegance that exuded nobility. Every gesture and smile radiated an unparalleled grace.
Lisa was a woman who could make all other women pale in comparison.
Heather had served Lisa for twenty years. Although she was a striking woman in her own right, she found herself captivated by Lisa's beauty each and every day.
During the time, Heather had lost all interest in men and only had eyes for Lisa.
"Is James really that amazing? That's impossible!" Heather said disdainfully. "If he were that great, with his flamboyant personality, he would have shown up by now. Look at him; he hasn't appeared for so long. Clearly, he's scared."
Heather seemed to harbor a lot of hostility towards James.
Lisa said, "Heather, you still hold a grudge because James scolded you seven years ago?"
Heather did not deny it and said, "I do despise him. James is intolerable. If you were to marry him, Ms. Savoy, you would regret it for the rest of your life."
"It's ok," Lisa waved her hand. "You needn't to say more. I know what I'm doing. It won't be long before I meet my fiancé. I hope he won't disappoint me."
With that, the corners of Lisa's mouth lifted slightly, revealing a smile that could captivate everyone.
In an instant, everything in the room seemed to fade into black and white, with only her remaining in color.
Heather stared at Lisa, her infatuation evident. "Ms. Savoy, you're so beautiful. If I were a man, I'd marry you."
Lisa gently flicked Heather's forehead and then walked away.
"James, what kind of person are you? I'm quite curious," Lisa murmured, her beautiful eyes revealing a strange light.
The Savoy family was also a prominent family, just below the top three, and had signs of catching up to the Smith family.
Lisa was the dream woman in the hearts of all men in the City of Mysteries. Countless men dreamt of marrying her.
Unfortunately, they knew that a woman like Lisa was destined to be out of their reach.
Most people thought Lisa would marry Neil or Maurice; no one expected her to be engaged to James.
In fact, the fact that Lisa had already agreed to be betrothed to James was not widely known.
On the Smith family side, Wylie had become much more silent after losing to James. After transferring the Serenity Haven Hotel to James, he hadn't visited the hotel again.
James didn't manage it; he handed the management over to his father, Saxon, who would assign the right people to handle it.
James had been back in New York City for a week now, and he missed Jennifer and their home in Lindwood City more and more.
The Smith family was vast but exceedingly cold. Apart from Saxon and Erin, James felt no familial warmth. Being at home felt akin to being in the office. He greatly disliked this feeling, profoundly so.
As for Alistair, ever since that day when he quarreled with James, he had not been alone with him again.
Other members of the Smith family sensed the rift between the grandfather and grandson and started gossiping again.
One day, Erin said to James, "James, are you available? Come shopping with me."
Erin was worried James was bored at home and made up an excuse to get him out.
In fact, Erin was a bit scared. Since James returned, he had hardly gone out, staying home reading, playing chess, drinking coffee, or sleeping. This wasn't how a young person should live; it was more like an old man's lifestyle.
This wasn't James's usual personality.
So today, she had to take James out.
"Ok," James agreed readily.
Erin breathed a sigh of relief. She was really worried he would refuse. Being cooped up at home all the time would drive anyone crazy.
Then, James accompanied Erin shopping. Most of the purchases were for James, like clothes and other items.
As they passed a certain place, James suddenly stopped and stared at it. Then, he quickly walked over.
"Jeffery." At James's shout, the man limping ahead suddenly froze as if struck by lightning.
