Chapter 507 Which Lewis Family?
The man walked in while talking on the phone, "What? Five million dollars? How many times have I told you, don't come to me for any business less than ten million dollars. That's it, I'm hanging up. I have to have dinner with my dad's old friend. Remember, don't come to me for any business less than ten million dollars, got it? Don't waste my time; my time is very valuable."
As he spoke these words, his face displayed impatience, exuding an overwhelming arrogance and conceit that made anyone who looked at him feel uneasy.
here wasn't a single part of him that didn't emit the aura of a nouveau riche, desperate for the whole world to know about his wealth, exuding a sense of extreme ostentation.
This trait of his was just like his parents; it really proved the saying, "Birds of a feather flock together."
"Tobias Dobbins, who were you talking to just now?" Valentin asked him with a smile.
Tobias strode over without greeting Dennis's family and sat directly next to Valentin, saying impatiently, "A client, just a small seven-million-dollar deal, and he came to me. I've told him before, don't come to me for any business less than ten million dollars, but he just won't listen."
This statement was very off-putting. James and Jennifer didn't react much, but Dennis felt particularly uncomfortable, and even the two waiters in the private room rolled their eyes. It wasn't that they were jealous; it was just that Tobias's nouveau riche demeanor was very flaunting.
Then Tobias pointed to a nearby waiter and ordered, "Hey, bring me a set of utensils. Can't you see I need them?"
The waiter felt very annoyed being pointed at like that, but for the sake of his job, he had to endure it and brought a set of utensils over. Because this was a relatively young waiter, he couldn't hide his displeasure, which immediately displeased Tobias. Tobias slammed the table and huffed, "Hey, what's with your attitude? I asked you to bring utensils, and you, a waiter, dare to look down on me? Do you know who I am? The money I make in a day is enough for you to work for months! A useless bottom-feeder of society dares to look down on a customer. Do you not want this job anymore?"
His words were extremely harsh, and the waiter's face turned even more unpleasant.
Tobias continued, "huh?, you dare to glare at me? What, are you not convinced? Do you believe I can get you fired with just one word?"
The waiter, who looked about twenty years old, couldn't hold back anymore. He didn't dare to retort loudly but muttered under his breath, "So what if you have money? Be careful you don't lose it all in business!"
"What did you say?" Tobias's face darkened immediately, pointing at the waiter, "Say that again!"
Another older waiter in the private room saw the situation was getting out of hand and quickly came over, pushed the young waiter aside, and apologized to Tobias together with him.
It took a full two minutes of apologies before Tobias's expression softened slightly. He summoned the manager, had the young waiter removed, and then began to mock, "Nowadays, these waiters have no manners at all. They deserve to be poor for the rest of their lives!"
Jennifer frowned, having witnessed the entire episode. Her impression of Tobias had plummeted to the lowest depths.
She had known Tobias previously, and even then, she hadn't held a good impression of him due to his incessant bragging. She was dismayed to find that, over the years, not only had he failed to rid himself of this bad habit, but it had actually intensified.
She couldn't help but say, "Tobias, the waiter didn't do anything wrong. You didn't have to talk to him like that."
Tobias frowned and looked over at Jennifer. He was about to snap back but paused when he saw Jennifer, then showed a look of amazement. After staring for a while, he said in surprise, "Are you Jennifer?"
Jennifer nodded.
"Wow, you’ve become so nice over the years." Tobias stared at Jennifer, then noticed James next to her and asked, "And who is this?"
James smiled, "I'm James, Jennifer's husband. Nice to meet you."
Hearing that James was Jennifer's husband, Tobias's face fell again, and his gaze towards James was filled with disgust and hostility.
In response to James's greeting, he merely nodded and then completely ignored him. His attitude was exceedingly rude, devoid of any semblance of decorum.
Jennifer's impression of Tobias worsened immediately.
Next, under Valentin's prompting, Tobias greeted Dennis and Kaitlyn, but his attitude was very perfunctory, and his disdain was obvious.
The meal was rather peculiar. Initially, Valentin's incessant boasting had already made Dennis somewhat uncomfortable. Now, his son Tobias surpassed him, spending the entire time bragging about the magnitude of his business, his annual earnings, and the myriad of influential figures he was acquainted with.
Jennifer grew increasingly impatient, going to the restroom twice during the meal.
Dennis and his family paid him little attention, yet Tobias continued to prattle on enthusiastically. His efforts intensified whenever Jennifer was present, as if he was desperate to ensure she knew how wealthy he was.
Soon, Tobias learned that James had no career and mainly helped Jennifer run a small clinic that didn't make much money annually. His sense of superiority was overwhelming, and he couldn't hide his smugness, looking like someone who had just won a battle.
Suddenly, James heard something Tobias said and paid attention, asking, "Mr. Dobbins, you mentioned doing business with the Lewis family. Which Lewis family are you referring to?"
James had been silent all along, and his sudden question drew everyone's attention to him.
Tobias didn't hide his disdain and hostility towards James. He didn't even look directly at him but glanced sideways and said, "Which Lewis family? Of course, the Lewis family from Starlight State, one of the top families there! Do you also have business dealings with the Lewis family?"
His last sentence was very mocking, clearly ridiculing James.
James pretended not to notice and smiled, "No, I don't. I'm not as capable as you, Mr. Dobbins, to reach that level."
"That's right!" Tobias was very pleased, his arrogance even more blatant and unrestrained.
Jennifer, with Tobias's words, suddenly panicked. The Lewis family was the force behind Calvin! Jennifer hadn't anticipated they had a connection with Tobias.
Under the table, James held her hand and gave her a gentle smile, signaling her not to worry.
