Chapter 61 Shield

"Because my boyfriend wouldn't like it," Harmony said as she looked at James, seated in front of her.

James was bowing his head and eating voraciously, not because he was afraid of this man but afraid that it would get back to Jennifer.

Unexpectedly, he almost buried his head in the plate, and Harmony used him as a shield, causing him to choke and cough.

This mustard is really spicy, it even brought tears to his eyes!

For a moment, everyone around looked at him strangely, some even laughed.

There was no way, James's current appearance was too ridiculous and comical. Not only was he wearing cheap clothes, but their pairing was particularly lousy. Being choked while eating, tears streaming down, he looked like a broke loser.

He was already out of place here, and being with a super-rich beauty like Harmony made it even more awkward like he didn’t deserve to accompany her.

Harmony felt a bit regretful, wondering why she brought him to such a place to eat, it was really embarrassing for her.

The man in the white suit chuckled, not hiding his mockery and disdain towards James, saying, "Really? Where's your boyfriend? I don't see him."

Pretending not to see James, he looked around humorously, causing many people to giggle and laugh.

What Harmony disliked the most was his appearance. She didn't intend to use James as a shield, but she couldn't bear seeing the smug look on the man in the white suit.

So, she simply walked over to James, pulled him up from his chair, linked her arm with his, leaned her face on his shoulder, and sweetly said, "He is my boyfriend."

James's current appearance was beyond silly, with the mustard making him tear up and his face and mouth messy. His bewildered expression was like a comedian in a movie, quite amusing.

"Him?" The man in the white suit burst into laughter, saying, "Snow, even if you want to use somebody as a shield, at least find someone decent. Look at him, he's almost looks like a street sweeper. Is he possibly your boyfriend? Far from it. Harmony, you can't possibly have a loser as a boyfriend."

James rolled his eyes. Harmony's move was too fake, even a discerning person could see through it.

But before he could speak, Harmony cut in, "So what? I'm happy to have a loser as a boyfriend. Do you have a problem with that?"

Seeing James struggling, she held onto his hand even tighter, oblivious to the fact that her bosoms were firmly pressing against him.

Feeling Harmony's fullness against his chest, James's scalp tingled giving him goosebumps. This was Jennifer's best friend!

When the man in the white suit saw this scene, his face darkened considerably. He quickly put on a sentimental look, and stated, "Snow, stop kidding around. I know he can't be your boyfriend. You're just trying to make me jealous. Okay, I admit I'm really jealous."

Harmony just laughed, saying, "Sorry, you're mistaken. I didn't mean to make you jealous. And please, leave. My boyfriend and I want to continue our meal."

Faced with Harmony's indifference, the man in the white suit raised his eyebrows, a hint of anger flashing in his eyes. He took out a check from his pocket, wrote down a series of numbers, and said to James, "Here's two hundred thousand, take this check and leave."

"Alright," James replied without hesitation. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve, took the check from the man in the white suit, and with a greedy look, acted like a money monger.

His actions were so quick, his expressions changing rapidly, that even the man in the white suit was dumbfounded, momentarily unable to react, just staring stupidly as James took his check and pocketed it.

The others in the restaurant were also astonished, thinking it would play out like in a drama where James, though poor, would have the integrity to tear up the check.

But James simply accepted the check without hesitation.

Harmony was also stunned, then a black line appeared on her forehead. She gritted her teeth, feeling that James, this guy, dared to ruin her plan!

James held the check, eyes gleaming, raising it to the light, looking like a money monger.

This action made the man in the white suit regret a bit. If he had known, he wouldn't have given so much. Two hundred thousand was his pocket money for a month!

But he quickly changed his mind. Spending two hundred thousand to get rid of this guy next to Harmony was worth it.

However, as soon as this thought crossed his mind, he saw James sitting down and continuing to eat, showing no intention of leaving.

"Hey! You took the money, why aren't you leaving?" the man in the white suit said displeased.

James looked up and said, "I'm not full yet."

He then took a big bite, a look of contentment on his face, resembling a country bumpkin who had just arrived in the city.

Harmony felt more and more regretful seeing him like this. This guy was indeed a waste. Why did she bring him to such a high-end place to embarrass herself?

The man in the white suit's tone was now filled with anger, and questioned James, "You took the money, and now you're going back on your word?!"

"How am I going back on my word?" James replied as he gave a concerned look at the man in the white suit, "You told me to leave with the check, but you didn't say when. I'm still hungry and want to finish eating before I leave."

"You!" The man in the white suit was instantly infuriated.

Harmony couldn't help but chuckle at James's antics, and others couldn't help but smile, too. Indeed, the man in the white suit only asked him to leave with the check without specifying when, and James found a loophole.

"Are you playing me for a fool? Do you know who I am? Would you believe I have a hundred ways to make you..." The man in the white suit's face turned ugly, his tone filled with threats.

But before he could finish, James interrupted him, looking at him strangely as he said, "Are you regretting it now? Forget it. Here's your check back."

Then he muttered loud enough for the man to hear, "Well, I thought you were more generous than that."

Seeing the man in the white suit's disgusted expression, Harmony felt pleased and said, " I get it; you are a guy who takes money over everything. You can't even bear to spend two hundred thousand. I think you should leave us alone."

The man in the white suit's expression became even more unpleasant. " What are you talking about? Two hundred thousand is nothing to me!" he declared arrogantly.

"Enough." Harmony reprimanded him and then simply sat next to James, squeezing onto the same chair with him. "If you have nothing else, you can leave. My boyfriend and I still have a date unfinished, so we won't keep you."

Compared to the man in the white suit, Harmony preferred to stay with James.

The man in the white suit took a deep breath, glared at James, then wrote another check for two hundred thousand, placing it in front of James, "Here's another two hundred thousand, now get out of here!"
