Chapter 118: Who Are You?
Eugene felt immensely proud inside.
'James, even if you cured Mr. Edwards, so what? In the end, the credit will still be mine,' he thought to himself.
However, Eugene didn't notice that while he was discussing with his two assistants, Brandon, on the hospital bed, had a slight change in his expression.
In fact, Brandon had regained consciousness when James came in. He just couldn't move, speak, or open his eyes, but he could hear the voices around him.
He heard the entire process, including Eugene pushing him to the brink of danger, shirking responsibility, mocking James, and it was James who overcame all obstacles and immense pressure to treat him. He couldn't see James's face, but he firmly remembered James's voice and felt immense gratitude for him.
When he heard Eugene planning to bribe the two assistants to deceive everyone, he was extremely angry.
He was a strong character and had always despised despicable people like Eugene. He swore that once he woke up, he would make Eugene pay a heavy price.
But his body was still very weak, he fell back into a deep sleep due to his intense emotions.
Eugene had no idea that Brandon had already developed a grudge against him. He was still feeling very pleased with himself, pushing Brandon out of the operating room with his head held high.
"He's out!"
The crowd waiting outside the operating room immediately gathered around, with Herman's face full of anxiety and apprehension.
Dominic and many other department heads were also very nervous, all praying that Eugene had truly cured Brandon.
Herman was the first to rush to Eugene, anxiously asking, "Dr. Baker, how is my father-in-law? Is he alright?"
As he said this, his voice was trembling with extreme tension.
Eugene didn't answer immediately. At this moment, he felt very proud and arrogant, facing everyone's expectations. Thinking about the shock he would bring when he announced that he had cured Brandon, he felt particularly excited.
Seeing Eugene's delay in speaking, Herman felt increasingly desperate. "Dr. Baker, just tell me the result, no matter what it is."
Dominic was very nervous. "Dr. Baker, didn't you say you could cure Mr. Edwards?"
Eugene panicked for a moment and quickly said, "What are you talking about? The surgery was very successful, and Mr. Edwards has been cured by me."
He deliberately emphasized the words "cured by me" very loudly, his face full of pride.
There was a brief moment of silence at the scene, as everyone was a bit slow to react.
"What?" Herman immediately jumped up in excitement, grabbing Eugene's shoulders tightly. "What did you say? He's cured?"
Herman's grip was so strong that Eugene's shoulders felt like they were being squished.
Eugene grimaced in pain but didn't dare to lose his temper. He could only endure the pain and said, "Yes, the surgery was very successful. Mr. Edwards's strange illness has been cured. As long as he rests well, he will recover his health."
"I-I-I..." Herman stammered, unable to speak for a long time, tears of excitement streaming down his face.
He tightly grasped Eugene's hand, filled with gratitude. "Dr. Baker, thank you so much, really! From now on, you are my benefactor. If you ever need my help, just ask, and I will never refuse."
Hearing this, Eugene couldn't suppress the smile on his face.
"Mr. Watson, treating patients is my duty." Eugene straightened his back, looking very righteous.
Seeing Eugene like this, everyone immediately felt a sense of respect. Herman admired him even more.
Only the two assistants thought to themselves that Eugene was an asshole, taking other's credit for himself.
"Dr. Baker is indeed a capable doctor. I never saw such a great doctor like him," Herman said admiringly.
"Mr. Watson, you're too kind." Eugene waved his hand modestly, but the smile on his face couldn't be hidden.
"Everyone, let's not crowd here. We should quickly send Mr. Edwards back to his room," Dominic suggested.
The crowd escorted Brandon back to his room. Along the way, Eugene reported the surgery details, constantly highlighting his superb medical skills and his urgent desire to cure Brandon, making his image even more saintly.
Subsequent examinations showed that Brandon's condition had returned to normal, which made the doctors even more respectful of Eugene, all trying to curry favor with him.
As Brandon's savior, Eugene already imagined he would gain higher status with Herman's help.
After all, Herman was a powerful figure from Emerald Isle City who had immense influence.
On James's side, he had exhausted himself from treating Brandon with acupuncture. Supported by Jennifer, he returned to her office and lay down for over ten minutes before he started to recover.
James opened his eyes and saw a face very close to his, staring at him with wide, blinking eyes.
"Jennifer, why are you looking at me like that?" James felt a bit embarrassed under Jennifer's gaze.
However, Jennifer didn't speak immediately. She continued to stare at James with wide eyes.
"Who are you really?" After a long while, Jennifer finally asked, her expression filled with seriousness.
James felt a sudden panic. ‘Has Jennifer discovered my true identity?’
"I'm your husband. Who else could I be?" He avoided her gaze.
Jennifer still stared at him. "Your medical skills are not something you can learn just by reading books. The acupuncture technique you used earlier, even many senior doctors can't perform. You must have received professional training to have such a level of skill. Tell me, who are you really?"
