Chapter 308 Get Out!
Leopold and Eirian had seen James in action before, so they weren't too shocked. They just thought, 'Man, James used to be such a gentleman; when did he turn into such a beast? He casually slapped a big dude away like it was nothing. Brutal.'
Elijah was holding his face, staring at James in disbelief. A few of his teeth were missing, and half his face was numb.
The other three tough guys were hotheads too and didn't back down. Seeing what was going down, they let go of Dorian and rushed at James, all teeth and claws.
But they came fast and left even faster. Just as they got close, James swatted them away like they were nothing. They ended up on the ground, rolling around and screaming in pain, their faces swollen from James's slaps, some even with mild concussions.
"Get lost," James told them straight up.
He was feeling a bit hungry, and the smell from the kitchen was making his stomach growl. He hadn't had a decent meal in a week and all he wanted now was some good grub.
Elijah got up, spat out some blood, and looked at James with a mix of fear and anger. He didn't dare make a move but wasn't completely scared off either. He glared at James and said, "Who the hell are you to mess with my business?"
Elijah was a tough guy, full of violence and aggression. That was how he became a leader. One setback wasn't gonna scare him off. Facing James, he felt more anger than fear. With his personality, he was definitely gonna seek revenge; otherwise, how could he keep his crew in line?
James could see what he was thinking and laughed, "What, you're not convinced and wanna come at me again?"
Elijah knew James was no joke. Even if all four of them attacked together, they probably couldn't take him down. So, he didn't act rashly and lowered his tone, saying, "Dorian pissed me off. Sooner or later, I'm gonna kill him. You saved him this time, but can you protect him forever?"
Dorian, who had just managed to get up, heard this and got scared again, especially when Elijah glared at him fiercely. He quickly shouted, "Elijah, it's not my fault! He hit you! His name is James."
James couldn't take it anymore and slapped Dorian across the face, saying coldly, "Shut up."
How could there be such a useless guy in this world? If it weren't for Leopold and Eirian, James would've really wanted him dead.
Dorian, after getting slapped, didn't dare say another word. He covered his face and looked at James with even more fear and resentment.
"James? Alright, I'll remember you!" Elijah said viciously, "Just you wait!"
James kicked up a nearby chair with his foot and then threw it hard at Elijah. The speed was so fast that Elijah couldn't dodge and got hit square in the chest, the impact making him sit on the ground and spit out a mouthful of blood.
"Get lost," James said, not even blinking.
Finally, Elijah got the message. His three muscle-bound buddies were just as freaked out and didn't dare say a word. They helped Elijah up and hightailed it out of there.
Bella, the woman who'd been hanging around, was scared stiff and bolted too.
"James, man, I can't thank you enough! I don't even know how to show my gratitude," Leopold said, so excited he was practically bouncing.
Eirian chimed in, just as pumped, "Yeah, James, if it weren't for you, we'd be toast. Those jerks would've walked all over us!"
They were about to drop to their knees, which freaked James out. He quickly stopped them, saying, "Whoa, what are you doing? We're neighbors, and neighbors gotta look out for each other. You guys always invited me over for meals and fruit; I remember that."
Hearing this, their eyes welled up, and they couldn't help but tear up. In tough times, they saw who really cared. Honestly, they hadn't treated James all that special, just normal.
Looking at James and then at Dorian—both young guys, but what a difference!
They really wished James was their son now.
"James, I don't even know what to say," Leopold said, almost crying.
Eirian was just as emotional, gripping James's hand tightly.
James laughed and said, "If you really wanna thank me, how about making some food? I'm starving. Seriously, I haven't had meat in a week."
Saying this, James felt a bit down. He'd never been this hard up, not even at his lowest. He always had meat to eat.
He couldn't imagine how Arianwen managed to get by.
"Right, I almost forgot. I'll get cooking right away. We'll have food soon," Eirian said, wiping her tears.
But then, a sharp voice cut in, "You two are nuts! Treating James like a hero. He brought trouble to our family!"
Dorian, eyes red with anger, glared at James. He didn't appreciate it at all and thought James had just brought more trouble, hating him even more.
Hearing this, Leopold lost it. He went over and slapped Dorian. "Shut up, you idiot! If it weren't for James, you'd be dead by now. And you still have the nerve to curse him! How did I end up with such a useless son?"
Leopold's slap was full of rage, making Dorian spin in place. James was stunned; when did Leopold get so strong?
Dorian snapped and went berserk. "Leopold, how dare you hit me? I'll kill you!" he yelled, lunging at Leopold in a fit of rage.
Such a low move made James's opinion of him hit rock bottom. James snorted coldly and stepped in front of Leopold. With one swift motion, he grabbed Dorian by the neck and lifted him off the ground. "You wanna die?" he asked, his voice icy and menacing.
