Chapter 388 The Maid with a Bad Attitude
Right then, Elio's pride and dignity took a nosedive as he hit his knees.
He had no choice; the pain was off the charts.
James didn't keep pushing. He let go of Elio's hand and said, "If you even think about messing with Jennifer, I'll make you hurt a hundred, no, a thousand times worse than this."
Then, James did something that left Elio totally freaked out.
James strolled over to his car and, with one powerful kick, flipped it like it was a toy.
Aghast, Elio couldn't say a word. He was completely stunned and terrified. This was insane. Was this guy even human?
At that moment, Elio was genuinely scared out of his mind. He started thinking James might be some kind of monster. Only a monster could have that kind of crazy strength.
After, it was a car. Even a group of people would struggle to lift it, and James just flipped it with one kick.
James's foot was totally fine. He looked like he had just done something super easy, no big deal.
Elio was seriously frightened. He had never been this freaked out in his life.
James stared him down and said, "Don't push me, or you'll wish you were dead."
Elio was scared stiff, nodding like a bobblehead, no fight left in him.
James had made his point and didn't stick around. In a flash, he was gone.
This disappearing act made Elio shake all over. He was starting to think James wasn't human but a monster. Only a monster could have that kind of strength and speed. In that lonely spot, he finally went to pieces and burst into tears. Forgetting about his car, he bolted from the area.
James didn't leave right away. He circled back to the spot, looking in another direction with a slight frown.
After thinking it over, he followed a trail to a small hill a few hundred feet away. He sniffed the air, his expression changing a bit. He pulled out his phone, turned on the flashlight, and shone it on the ground. He found a few faint footprints. They were so subtle that even a pro detective might miss them, but not James.
Someone had been there just a minute ago, watching him.
Judging by the size of the footprints and the barely-there scent in the air, James figured it was probably a woman.
This threw James for a loop.
With his martial arts skills, he was a powerhouse. There were hardly any fighters in the country who could match him, especially after his energy sea had doubled in size, boosting his strength big time. For someone to stand a few hundred feet away and watch him without getting caught right away, they had to be a serious expert.
This made James wonder. Who could it be?
First off, his decision to come here tonight was totally on a whim, so it couldn't have been planned.
So, this meant someone might've been tailing him to know he'd be here.
Who the heck could it be?
Or was it just dumb luck that this mystery woman showed up when he and Elio did?
James frowned, lost in thought.
If he hadn't been on his toes, he wouldn't have noticed someone watching him from a few hundred feet away.
He scoped out the area, calmed himself, and checked the surroundings. After making sure no one else was around, he memorized the footprints and the scent before taking off.
No matter what, he had to keep his guard up from now on.
He worried his old enemies might've tracked him down and were coming for him.
After all, James had ruffled a lot of feathers in the City of Mysteries. Five years had passed. Those folks might've leveled up and were out for payback.
James's lips curled into a cold, twisted smile. He hoped it was just some random passerby. Otherwise, anyone who dared to mess with him would seriously regret it.
Back at the dorm, James didn't dwell on it. After a quick shower, he hit the sack. He had to meet Edwin at the medical university the next day.
Bright and early the next morning, he got up. He planned to wake Arianwen, but when he stepped into the hall, there she was, waiting.
"You're up early? I was just about to wake you," James said with a grin.
Arianwen replied, "I got up an hour ago."
"Looks like you're pumped. Not bad, you're making progress," James remarked.
Then, he checked out Arianwen's outfit and frowned. "You're going in that clothes?"
"Yeah." Her answer was short and sweet.
"No way," James said. "If you wear that, you'll freak out those college kids. Put on something more chill."
Arianwen was rocking typical nightwear, which would definitely turn heads if she stepped out like that.
Especially with Arianwen's vibe, she'd be hard to miss, not to mention the sword strapped to her back.
Arianwen said, "This is the only outfit I have."
James blurted out, "No way, I saw a casual outfit in your closet."
Suddenly, James realized he had messed up and clammed up. Arianwen's expression turned a bit awkward, with a hint of shyness and anger.
Not too long ago, James had been caught in her room, sniffing her underwear.
For a moment, the air was thick with awkwardness.
After a bit, Arianwen said, "Can I stay at home?"
"You can't." James shot back.
Arianwen bit her lip and glared at James, then turned and went back to her room, slamming the door behind her.
James was speechless. What kind of maid was this, giving her master such attitude?
However, this maid who could kill at the drop of a hat was not someone to mess with. He decided to go solo.
But just as he finished getting ready and was about to leave, Arianwen's door swung open, and she walked out in a dress.
James was instantly floored, and the shoes in his hand hit the ground as he stood there, mouth hanging open.
