Chapter 248 James, I Like You
"No, I didn't. Why would I care about those photos? I just thought this camera was nice, and smashing it would be a waste," Harmony stammered, clearly lying.
James frowned and didn't bother arguing with her. In his eyes, those photos couldn't be kept any longer; they were a ticking time bomb!
He went straight to the settings page and formatted the data. To be safe, he did it twice, ensuring all the data was gone before handing the camera back to Harmony. "Here you go," he said.
Harmony had no idea James had formatted the data. She excitedly took the camera and eagerly turned it on, only to frown. "Where are the photos from earlier?"
"I deleted them," James said. "It's getting late. We should head to the hospital. The snake venom in your body hasn't been extracted. It's still dangerous if we delay."
However, upon hearing his words, Harmony's face darkened instantly. She glared at James angrily. "Are you crazy? Why did you format the data!!"
James replied matter-of-factly, "Didn't you say you didn't want to keep those photos?"
Harmony's eyebrows twitched continuously, her face turning red with agitation, on the verge of an outburst. Finally, she couldn't hold it in any longer and threw the camera at James. "James, are you an idiot? When I said I didn't want to keep them, did you really think I meant it? Can't you tell I was saying it on purpose? You don't understand girls at all!"
Her eyes reddened with urgency as she glared at James, then lunged at him, pounding his chest with her fists.
James frowned, grabbing Harmony's hands. He said sternly, "Enough!"
"You're hurting me," Harmony said painfully.
James let go of her and coldly said, "Ms. Brown, I request that you stop bothering me and refrain yourself. I don't want my wife to misunderstand."
Hearing his words, Harmony's face visibly darkened. She bit her lip. "James, what do you mean?"
Seeing her heartbroken expression, James felt a twinge of guilt. But he knew that now, more than ever, he had to stay firm and not get entangled any further. He didn't know why Harmony liked him, but it didn't matter now. It was time to solve the problem; otherwise, it wouldn't be good for either of them.
From the beginning, he had only seen Harmony as a regular friend. Besides, he was already married and couldn't have any relationship beyond friendship with Harmony.
Although Harmony had been a bit spoiled, he could tolerate it. But now that Harmony clearly liked him, it couldn't go on like this.
"Yes," James said expressionlessly.
Hearing this, Harmony bit her lip harder, her eyes reddening. "You're lying. You don't hate me. You're just trying to make me angry, aren't you?"
She tried to grab James's hand, but he dodged, frowning impatiently. "You're so annoying. Do you really think every man should fall into your beauty?"
"Since it's come to this, I won't hide anything. Yes, I dislike you, ever since I met you the first time."
"You're lying! You're lying!" Harmony's emotions surged. "If you really hated me, why would you be friends with me? Why would you save me? Don't try to fool me! You were clearly worried about me just now. You care about me. You like me!"
Fortunately, there was no one around at this time. Otherwise, Harmony's loud shouting would have easily attracted attention.
Seeing Harmony so agitated, James felt even more troubled.
'When did Harmony start liking me? I concealed my real status and acted like a loser before; how could Harmony still like me? Did she have a problem with her taste?' He was puzzled.
But at this moment, James had already made up his mind—dispel Harmony's fantasy.
So he put on a look of disdain and disgust. "Harmony, you really have no self-awareness. Why would I worry about you? You should understand that I saved you purely because I'm a doctor, purely because you're Michael's sister, Jennifer's good friend. Otherwise, do you really think I saved you because I like you? Please, you misunderstood! Do you know why I avoided you just now? Because I was on the phone with Jennifer, and I was afraid she would misunderstand me!"
Seeing Harmony's tear-streaked, heartbroken face, James felt sad too. Overall, Harmony, despite her bad temper, was essentially a good person, not someone truly unreasonable. Unfortunately, James had Jennifer, and he couldn't have anything beyond friendship with Harmony.
"You're lying to me. You must be lying," Harmony said pitifully. James had never seen Harmony like this before, not even last night by the river when facing those thugs at her most desperate moment. She wasn't as pained and weak as she was now.
This was a kind of heartbreak from the depths of her soul, making it hard to bear.
James wasn't heartless; seeing Harmony's tears now, he still felt quite sad.
So he averted his gaze, still putting on a look of disgust. He knew he had to take this chance to shatter Hamrny's illusions totally, no matter what the cost.
"Whatever. I'm leaving."
James turned and walked away.
But he had only taken a couple of steps when Harmony suddenly rushed up from behind and hugged him tightly.
"What are you doing? Let go of me!" James panicked, urgently saying, while trying to pry Harmony's hands off.
However, Harmony's fingers were interlocked in front of his chest like a lock, impossible to open. James was very strong, stronger than most adults, but Harmony, a girl, didn't budge. . This resilience surprised James. Considering Harmony's snake venom hadn't been fully neutralized, she should have been very weak.
If James continued, Harmony would get hurt. But he had his methods. He pressed a point on Harmony's body, and her tense muscles immediately relaxed halfway.
Just as James was about to push Harmony away, he heard her tearful voice, "James, I like you. Please don't treat me like this. I'm begging you."
