Chapter 406 Teasing Under the Table

James felt super awkward sticking around, worried that the more he tried to explain, the worse it would get. He let out a couple of nervous laughs and made a quick exit.

But honestly, what bugged him more than everyone else's misunderstandings was Jennifer's reaction. He couldn't figure her out. She saw Harmony hugging him but didn't get mad or even give them a second look. That was so unlike any wife.

Back in the day, he might've thought Jennifer didn't care because she didn't love him. But now, knowing she did, her indifference was just plain weird.

Was she just keeping her cool to save face? Or was there something deeper going on?

James was totally baffled.

Harmony hung around the clinic all day, trying to help out. Coming from a rich family, she wasn't much help and was more of a distraction.

Since Harmony was Jennifer's good friend, it wasn't a big deal for her to be there. But after that incident, everyone at the clinic thought something was up between James and Harmony, making things super awkward.

He could even hear some of the staff whispering about it. To make things worse, both Harmony and Jennifer seemed clueless, which made James even more uncomfortable.

After work, Harmony joined them for dinner, holding Jennifer's hand like it was no big deal.

"James, why so quiet? Got a problem with us?" Harmony suddenly asked as they walked down the street, chatting with Jennifer.

James rolled his eyes, feeling a bit ticked off, thinking, 'Oh, so you know I have an issue, huh?' But he just said, "Nah, just didn't want to butt in."

Harmony picked up on his annoyance. With a sly grin, she teased, "James, are you jealous?"

James forced a couple of awkward laughs.

Jennifer nudged him and said, "Harmony's talking to you. Why aren't you answering?"

James was at a loss, thinking, 'How am I supposed to respond to that?'

His gut told him something was off with Jennifer, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Feeling helpless, he said, "Yeah, I'm jealous."

He thought Harmony would drop it after that. But to his shock, she did something crazy. She walked over, hooked her arm around his, and said with a smile, "No need to be jealous. I'll treat you both the same."

Now she was in the middle, holding Jennifer with one hand and him with the other, the three of them strolling down the street.

James was floored. How did Harmony have the guts to hold his hand right in front of Jennifer?

Feeling guilty, he quickly glanced at Jennifer, only to see she wasn't even paying attention, acting like it was totally normal.

James didn't want Harmony so close. He tried to pull his arm away, but Harmony held on tight, not letting him go. Even giving her a dirty look didn't work.

Harmony's smile got even bigger, and there was a spark of excitement in her eyes, making her seem more alive.

Jennifer was all smiles, totally oblivious to the fact that her husband was being flirted with by her best friend. It seemed rather naive.

James felt super anxious and uneasy, totally uncomfortable with the whole situation. But he had to admit, it was kind of thrilling too.

Finally, they got to the restaurant for dinner. James took the chance when Harmony let go to quickly pull his hand back and move next to Jennifer, making sure Harmony couldn't grab him again.

The restaurant was a fancy, romantic spot, popular with the upper class. Harmony had booked a cozy booth by the window. She and Jennifer sat on one side, and James sat across from them.

Harmony slid the menu over to James and said, "Order whatever you want. It's on me tonight."

Her eyes lingered on James, making him squirm. He quickly looked away and handed the menu back, saying, "I'm not picky. You can order for me."

Jennifer, knowing James's tastes, took the menu and picked out a few of his favorite dishes. Harmony added a couple more items before handing the menu to the waiter.

Then, Harmony and Jennifer started chatting about stuff James had no interest in. He just stared out the window, lost in thought about what to do next.

He figured Alistair would soon find out what he'd been up to. The family would probably send someone to bring him back soon.

Once the mission was over, he could return to his real identity. At that point, he'd have to talk to Alistair about bringing Jennifer back and officially recognizing her as his wife.

He'd spent five years in Lindwood City, making a lot of memories. He'd gotten used to the place. Leaving would be tough.

Lost in thought, he suddenly felt a foot under the table brushing against his calf, snapping him back to reality.

James didn't think much of it. The table was small, and it wasn't unusual for their legs to touch. He shifted his position and went back to staring out the window. But then the foot came back, this time pressing firmly against his calf.

His heart started racing. He realized Jennifer was sitting across from him, so it had to be her teasing him. He didn't expect his usually serious wife to be so playful.

He chuckled to himself but didn't want to flirt in public. He shifted a bit further away and gave Jennifer a look, signaling her to be more discreet.

But just a few seconds later, the foot was back, this time rubbing against his calf and slipping into his pant leg.

Without the barrier of his pants, James immediately noticed the person was wearing stockings.

James sensed something was off. Suddenly, his eyes widened in realization. Jennifer wasn't wearing stockings today, but Harmony was.
