Chapter 335 Reunion with Jennifer!
Before heading out, he went all out to avoid being recognized. He threw on a wig, rocked some clothes totally different from his usual vibe, slapped on some shades to hide his eyes, and even wore a mask to cover most of his face. He even managed to make himself look shorter. He figured even if he stood right in front of Jennifer, she wouldn't have a clue who he was. Only then did he feel chill enough to step outside.
It was said that, the closer one to home, the more racing heart become. James was feeling that big time. Even though he looked like a whole different person, he was still a bundle of nerves and excitement.
Finally, the car pulled up in front of the Hall of Benevolent Medicine and stopped. The driver parked, but James just sat there for a sec. The driver had to remind him it was time to get out. James handed over some cash and asked the driver to hang tight for a bit.
The driver was totally thrown off; he'd never seen anything like this before.
Since it was a parking zone, the driver was cool with making some extra cash and didn't rush James anymore.
From his spot in the car, James could see inside the Hall of Benevolent Medicine. Two intern doctors were busy with patients, but no sign of Jennifer.
He sat there for ten minutes, still no Jennifer. Was she not working today?
After mulling it over, he decided to get out and check. With his current getup, no one would recognize him anyway.
He got out of the car, stood in front of the Hall of Benevolent Medicine, checked his reflection in the glass of the opposite cabinet. Everything seemed on point. He took a deep breath to steady himself and then slowly walked in.
His heart was pounding like crazy.
The two intern doctors glanced at him. For a moment, he felt a wave of nerves. But soon, their eyes moved on, clearly not recognizing him. He let out a sigh of relief.
Inside, besides the two intern doctors, there was a young female assistant handling the waiting patients.
"Please wait a moment. We have a lot of patients today," the female assistant said politely.
James nodded. It felt super weird. He was the owner of the Hall of Benevolent Medicine, but here he was, pretending to be an outsider.
After a while, still no Jennifer. The two intern doctors kept attending to patients.
James looked towards Jennifer's office and saw the door was closed. No clue if she was inside.
Just then, the female assistant came over again. James couldn't help but ask, "Excuse me, is Dr. Johnson not seeing patients today?"
"Dr. Johnson hasn't been feeling well lately. Is your condition serious?" the assistant asked.
"No, it's not," James shook his head, taking a sip of tea to cover his actions.
Just then, footsteps echoed from the entrance. James immediately tensed up. He recognized those footsteps—they were Jennifer's!
Sure enough, a stunning figure walked past him and came into view. Who else could it be but Jennifer?
At that moment, James felt like he forgot how to breathe. His whole body went stiff as he stared at Jennifer's back.
If he wasn't rocking those sunglasses and a mask, his excited expression would've totally given him away.
"Dr. Johnson, you're here? I wasn't expecting you today?" Kimberly quickly poured Jennifer a cup of tea and asked curiously.
Jennifer replied calmly, "Yeah, I rested at home for a bit and felt better."
Hearing her voice, James felt a wave of emotion. After so many days of their separation, Jennifer looked more worn out, thinner, and even her voice was hoarse. It broke his heart.
James stared at Jennifer, his hand holding the teacup trembling slightly, just like his unsettled emotions.
After a while, Jennifer went into her office, changed into her doctor's coat, and started seeing patients.
Since James had arrived later, his number was further back with several patients ahead of him.
James sat quietly in a corner, staring at Jennifer. He thought he had let go of his feelings for her over time. Seeing her again made him realize he had been fooling himself.
He also knew that the longer he looked, the more painful it would be, and the harder it would be to forget.
The smartest move now was to scoot. After all, he had already seen Jennifer and achieved his purpose for coming. But he couldn't move his feet. He felt like he and the Hall of Benevolent Medicine had become one.
Finally, after what felt like forever, he got his chance to see Jennifer. "Ulysses Taylor," Jennifer called out. James froze, not realizing he had registered under the name Ulysses.
It wasn't until Jennifer called his name three times and looked in his direction that he realized he was Ulysses. Instantly, he felt a surge of nervousness!
Jennifer's gaze lingered on him for a moment, and she felt a sense of familiarity, like she had seen this guy named Ulysses before.
But upon closer inspection, she couldn't place him. Ulysses' hairstyle, build, and behavior were all unfamiliar.
Maybe she had seen him on the street before? Jennifer didn't think much of it. She couldn't have imagined that Ulysses was actually the James she missed day and night!
Seeing that Ulysses still hadn't come over, Jennifer frowned slightly and said, "Ulysses, are you here to see a doctor?"
With Jennifer's tone carrying a hint of annoyance, everyone else in the Hall of Benevolent Medicine also looked in James' direction.
At that moment, no one knew how complicated, conflicted, and painful James felt!
Finally, he couldn't resist the pull of his emotions or the voice inside him. He took a deep breath, stood up, and walked towards Jennifer, sitting down in front of her.
Because he looked so different from before, Jennifer didn't recognize him. She just thought he seemed a bit quirky and assumed he was embarrassed because of some unspeakable condition, as people often were in a clinic.
