Chapter 608 Mysterious Organization

James had a hunch it might be Arianwen—her build, her moves, they all screamed her name. But it didn't add up. Arianwen was his. She wouldn't turn on him. And yet, in that fight, she hadn't held back. Every strike was meant to take him out, no mercy.

Plus, when they last saw each other months ago, she wasn't this good. Not even close.

Now, standing face-to-face, James was rocked. This was a whole new level!

However, when Arianwen heard him call her name, she didn't react at all, and there was no guilt or similar emotion in her eyes, still as cold as ever.

James stopped his movements, and Arianwen didn't waste the opening. She slammed her fist into his chest, the impact sending him staggering back with a sharp grunt.

For a split second, confusion flickered in her eyes—why had he slipped up like that?

But she wasn't sticking around to find out. Even with that hit, she knew she was no match for him. So she spun on her heel and bolted, vanishing into the shadows before he could recover.

James didn't chase after her. His head was spinning, and even with his sharp mind, he couldn't wrap it around why Arianwen would come at him like that. Had she forgotten him in just a few months?

Or worse—had she lost her memory?

When he'd called her name, there'd been zero reaction.

Maybe it wasn't her at all. Maybe it was someone who just looked like her.

But no matter how he pieced it together, it didn't make sense. James was stuck.

And it hurt. Arianwen—his Arianwen—had just tried to take him out.

Thankfully, he was built tough. The hit had stung, but it wasn't anything serious. A couple of days to recover, and he'd be back in shape.

He pressed a few pressure points, coughed up some dark blood, wiped his mouth, and started back.

When he returned, the princess and the others were still there, waiting. Seeing him, they all let out a collective breath of relief.

"Did you catch the assassin?" Gray asked.

James didn't answer this question but instead asked, "What force is trying to assassinate the princess?"

If it were before, Gray would have been angry if James didn't answer his question directly, but now he didn't dare to say a word and answered honestly, "It could be people from the Godslayer Organization."

James nodded and didn't ask more, saying, "Let's go back first."

Now he had clearly become the leader of the team, and both Gray and Rose listened to him.

Selina, however, kept staring at James with curious eyes. When she saw him looking over, she immediately lowered her head, not daring to meet his gaze.

James was preoccupied and didn't bother to explain anything to Selina.

Back at the manor, Zaiden was shocked when he learned about the attack. Knowing that Selina was unharmed, he was relieved. Then he learned about James's terrifying strength and looked at him differently.

"Honorable Mr. Smith, we owe you big time for saving the princess. Sorry for the earlier attitude," Zaiden said, tipping his hat to James in a gentlemanly way.

James just waved it off. "All in a day's work. No need for thanks. Looks like you've got assassins on your tail. You planning to head back home?"

Zaiden was about to say yes when Selina cut in, "Nope, not going back. I'm not done having fun in Sunlandia yet."

"Princess," Zaiden warned, giving her a look to cut the attitude.

Gray chimed in, "Your Highness, you've got a target on your back now. For your own safety, you gotta go back home. We can't risk anything happening to you."

Selina rolled her eyes. "Relax, James is here to watch my back. I'll be fine."

James frowned slightly but said nothing.

Seeing Selina's stubborn resolve, Zaiden gave up trying to talk her out of it. He knew her too well—once she set her mind on something, there was no changing it. Plus, he could tell she was already intrigued by this Sunlandia agent.

That was how Selina was. She always had a thing for the strong types.

James checked the entire manor to ensure there was no danger, then called Rolf to report the night's events, getting straight to the point, "What's the situation with this Godslayer Organization?"

Rolf sighed, "It's some shady, powerful group with major backing from certain countries. They've got heavy hitters and zero scruples. Once they've got a target in sight, they'll do whatever it takes to get the job done.."

After hearing Rolf's breakdown, James had a clearer picture, but Arianwen's involvement still didn't add up. He knew her background inside out—she was top-tier in a shadowy domestic group, not some foreign hit squad.

Sure, she'd done assassin work in the past, but this? No way.

And the fact that she didn't even recognize him indicated memory wipe!

James asked, "Does this Godslayer Organization have a method to forcibly erase memories?"

"That I don't know. The organization is very mysterious, so we don't understand them well," Rolf replied. "Are you asking because you encountered someone familiar tonight?"

Rolf was indeed very smart, instantly catching on.

James thought for a moment and didn't hide it, saying, "I did encounter someone familiar, but they didn't recognize me."

"Who?" Rolf perked up.

"Already took care of them," James said bluntly.

"Damn, that's a shame," Rolf sighed. "We've been digging into this group for ages but keep hitting dead ends."

They talked for a bit longer until James heard footsteps on the stairs. He hung up and turned around. "Princess, shouldn't you be asleep?"

It was Selina. Fresh out of the shower, she was in loose pajamas, heading his way.

Even at under twenty, she had curves that didn't quit. The scent of her shampoo lingered, and she looked good enough to make anyone's head turn.

Selina sat down opposite James and said, "Mr. Smith, thank you for tonight."

James said indifferently, "No need to thank me, it's my duty."

Selina locked eyes with him, not even trying to hide her interest. She wasn't like the quiet, shy girls from Sunlandia—she was from Frostreach, and when she wanted something, she made it known.

Her tone mad eit clear that she was into James.

And if the vibe was right? She wouldn't mind taking things to the next level.
