Chapter 493 There's Something Off with This Calvin
"It's ok. We're friends, right? Friends should help each other out. Saying thank you is too formal," Calvin said, feigning displeasure.
Jennifer smiled and said nothing more.
After a pause, Calvin added, "Dr. Johnson, can I invite you to dinner after you get off work?"
His smile was refined and scholarly, with handsome features and a tall, commanding presence. Clad in an exquisite suit, he exuded an aura of warmth and charm that few women could resist. The two female employees of the Hall of Benevolent Medicine gazed at him with hearts in their eyes, filled with girlish fantasies.
The women wished they were the ones being invited, so they could have dinner with Calvin.
Jennifer admitted that Calvin was indeed quite charming, the most charming man she had ever met. If she were still single, she might consider Calvin. But now, no matter how excellent Calvin was, she wouldn't be moved.
Jennifer politely said, "Dr. Allen, I'm sorry, but I promised to have dinner at home. Besides, I'm married, and my husband doesn't like me going out to eat with other men.."
Jennifer's words were very polite, leaving no room for criticism.
Calvin frowned slightly after hearing this, saying with a smile, "Dr. Johnson, you misunderstood. I just wanted to discuss some medical insights with you, nothing else."
Jennifer was about to speak when a voice came from her side, "Jennifer, since Dr. Allen wants to discuss medical insights with you, don't refuse him. Besides, he just helped us a lot."
Hearing this voice, Jennifer trembled, and she immediately turned her head to see James' distinctive face.
Jennifer instantly became excited, her eyes slightly red. She couldn't maintain her composure and quickened her pace towards James, throwing herself into his arms, hugging his waist, and pressing her face against his chest. "Honey, you're back. I missed you so much."
This was the first time in all the years Jennifer and James had been married that she had actively thrown herself into his arms on the street, expressing her love and longing for him.
James was stunned for a moment because he hadn't expected Jennifer's movement.
The next moment, James showed a genuine smile, resting his face on Jennifer's hair, greedily inhaling her scent, gently hugging her waist, and saying tenderly, "I missed you, too, very much."
For Jennifer, James had refused Lisa, given up his inheritance rights, and was willing to go against the world.
And all of this was worth it in Jennifer's embrace.
On the other side, Calvin saw Jennifer throwing herself into James' arms, hugging him so tightly, and his eyebrows twitched violently, his face turning ugly for a moment.
Calvin had started interacting with Jennifer ten days ago. He admitted that he had a strong purpose for approaching her initially. But through several days of interaction, his fondness for Jennifer had grown increasingly. Now, he genuinely liked her from the bottom of his heart.
Jennifer was the most feminine and charismatic woman he had ever met. Being around her made his heart race every second.
Even though he knew Jennifer was married, seeing her being affectionate with another man still made him feel terrible, like he had eaten something disgusting, and his expression twisted for a moment.
In seconds, he collected all his negative emotions, still wearing a gentle smile with a stare at James and Jennifer.
He focused more on James, wanting to observe what kind of person he was and how much of a threat he posed.
He found that James was just an ordinary person, not particularly handsome, with no sharpness in his eyes, and no aura of power, purely an ordinary man.
Calvin considered James to be more composed than his peers.
Such men were common in society, and easily found everywhere. How could Jennifer be interested in such a man?
But Calvin didn't realize that all his expressions were noticed by James, including his secret observation and hostility towards James.
Jennifer was still quite reserved. She didn't hug James for too long, letting go after a few seconds. Her eyes lingered on James' face, and seeing him smiling at her, she felt her heart was full, especially sweet. She softly said, "Why did you come back so soon? Didn't you have a lot to deal with?"
James took her hand, interlocking their fingers, and smiled, "I finished everything and came back. What, you don't want me to come back so early?"
Jennifer shook her head and said, "No, you don't know how much I've missed you these past two weeks."
"It's okay, I'm back now, and we won't be apart again." James gently scratched her palm, then led Jennifer to Calvin, extending his hand and smiling, "Nice to meet you, I'm James, Jennifer's husband. Thank you for helping the Hall of Benevolent Medicine earlier."
Calvin looked at James, a flash of contempt in his eyes, but he still smiled warmly and shook James' hand, saying, "Calvin Allen. So you're Dr. Johnson's husband. No wonder you're so accomplished, marrying such an excellent woman. I'm envious."
As he shook James' hand, he immediately sensed that James was weaker than him. With his first-stage martial artist skills, he could easily crush James' hand. This thought became very strong.
But he held back!
If he did that, it would ruin everything.
Besides, James wasn't worth such an action.
But he didn't realize that James had the same thought, just waiting for him to strike first. If he did, James would counterattack and crush his right hand.
James hugged Jennifer's waist and smiled, "Marrying Jennifer is indeed the luckiest thing in my life."
Calvin smiled but didn't respond. He said, "Since Mr. Smith is back, I won't disturb you."
James said, "Dr. Allen, didn't you invite us to dinner after work?"
Calvin waved his hand and said, "Next time."
His words had a deeper meaning, but James just smiled, pretending not to notice.
After Calvin left, Jennifer said, "Honey, were you jealous just now?"
James watched Calvin's disappearing figure, then turned back and said, "There's something off about this Calvin."
