Chapter 630 No Match for James
With a loud bang, the immense collision of forces caused James and the three from Marcus's side to stagger back. James was astonished that the combined strength of these three could actually rival his own.
Marcus and his companions were even more shocked. In Aetheria, the three of them had never met an opponent they couldn't defeat together. Yet, this young man before them had withstood their combined attack without injury, fighting them to a standstill. Such power at his age was truly formidable!
"Kill him!" Marcus barked.
Three figures lunged at James at once. James's expression hardened. These three were the most dangerous he'd faced outside of the absolute top-tier masters. He wasn't about to take them lightly.
In an instant, the four figures intertwined. Those who emerged from the room were stunned by the sight. That young man could actually contend with Marcus and his companions?
Amidst the intertwining figures, the dull sounds of fists clashing echoed continuously, and the nearby tables and chairs suffered the consequences.
"This guy is no ordinary person. If Master hadn't intervened, we wouldn't have been able to stop him!"
Richard felt a bit of fear. Judging by James's current combat prowess, he and his group would have no chance against James and would only face death.
Someone nearby whispered, "Do you think Master can handle this guy?"
No sooner had he spoken than an even more brutal clash erupted. The four figures shot backward. James landed, taking a few steps back, his chest rising and falling heavily.
Marcus and his crew were in worse shape. The two in black robes were a mess—their clothes torn, blood dripping from their arms, which were shaking. Only Marcus looked slightly better, but even his face was pale as hell.
The people from Religion looked grim, but Sidney finally felt a sense of relief and relaxed.
"I didn't expect you'd be this strong," Marcus said, his earlier cockiness gone, replaced by a somber tone.
James just grinned. "What's the matter? You done already?"
Marcus locked eyes with James, searching for any sign of hesitation, but all he saw was heavy breathing and unwavering resolve. Finally, he let out a sigh. "Maybe this whole thing's just a misunderstanding. Why don't we hash it out over a chat instead?"
James's lips curled into a cold smile. These people were always like this: if they could win, they would fight to the death. But once they realized they couldn't win, they would start to show weakness.
So he shot back, his voice icy, "If I lose today, what happens to me?"
Marcus's face stiffened for a second before he forced a smile. "Mr. Smith, you're overthinking it. As God's messengers, we'd never resort to something as extreme as extermination. You don't need to worry about our methods."
James let out a sharp laugh. "In Sunlandia, we believe in giving back what we're given. You've shown me your hand, but you haven't seen mine yet."
Marcus's expression shifted, his voice tense. "What do you want?"
James flashed a wicked grin and darted like a blur toward one of the black-robed guys. Marcus's eyes widened as he caught on. "Stop him!" he barked.
But it was already too late. James closed the distance in a heartbeat and threw a punch. The black-robed guy, seeing he couldn't avoid it, clenched his teeth and swung back.
Their fists smashed together with a bone-jarring crack, and the black-robed guy's face twisted in agony. His arm snapped, and he spat blood as he was sent flying.
James didn't let up. He surged forward, landing another brutal punch to the guy's gut before he even hit the ground. The black-robed man howled in pain as James yanked him back by the leg and clamped a cold hand around his throat. Marcus and the Religion crew froze, their eyes burning into James.
Marcus took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, and stared at James, "Let him go, and we will never trouble you again!"
"Even if I believe that, do you believe it? Don't think I'm as naive as those fools. Religion, in essence, is just a bunch of charlatans. You deceive others and yourselves, but you can't deceive me!"
Marcus gritted his teeth, "What do you want to let him go?"
"Who said I was going to let him go?"
Marcus's expression changed, but he quickly sneered, "Young man, I admire your courage. But do you dare to kill him? If you do, I guarantee you won't leave Aetheria."
James glanced at Sidney, who immediately ran behind him. Then, with a smirk, he shot Marcus a look. "You serious?"
Marcus nodded, though it was more out of desperation than confidence. He had to hope James would back down. That black-robed guy couldn't die—without him, keeping the heat off from within Religion would be a nightmare.
Marcus hesitated for a moment, then finally made a decision. "I'll trade his life for a divine herb!"
At the mention of the divine herb, James's eyes sparked with interest. A thousand-year-old divine herb couldn't bring the dead back to life, but it could cure just about anything. And more importantly, it might just be the key to pushing James to the next level.
Seeing James's reaction, Marcus's eyes showed a glimmer of hope, "What do you think?"
"Alright, but I can't let him go now. I need to confirm you're not deceiving me."
James then tapped a few points on the black-robed man's body, rendering him immobile. The pain from his injuries made him groan, but he couldn't move.
Seeing this, Marcus dared not say more. He made a call and then sat across from James.
"Mr. Smith, with your strength, you must not be an unknown figure in Sunlandia, right?"
James smiled and nodded, "If you have something to ask, just say it. I don't like beating around the bush."
"Alright, Mr. Smith, you're straightforward. I just want to know, why did you come to Aetheria? Don't give me the excuse of causing trouble for Religion; I don't believe it."
James raised an eyebrow and calmly said, "I did come to Aetheria for a reason, but I can't say. As for Religion, that incident was truly an accident."
Marcus's frown deepened. If James was being straight with him, then all this chaos was for nothing. Chasing him down just to hand him a gift? Unbelievable!
