Chapter 376 Is James a Coward?
Walter didn't black out, but he was stumbling to his feet. His injuries were bad, real bad. His head was pounding, and his ears were ringing like crazy.
Getting humiliated by that karate dude made him see red. He was beyond pissed but couldn't do jack about it. His eyes were bloodshot, his teeth were clenched and he was shaking from shame or pain, which no one could tell.
"What? You wanna keep going?" the karate expert sneered.
Walter clenched his teeth, knowing he was in no shape to fight back. He had to swallow his pride and take the humiliation.
"Who else wants a piece of me?" the karate expert stood in the middle of the ring, hands behind his back, acting like he was untouchable. He didn't give a damn about the crowd, his arrogance off the charts.
Not a single person in the crowd dared to step up. They were all scared stiff, averting their face from the ring.
"Come on, didn't you all say you're tough? Now's your chance to prove it. Step up!"
"My stomach's acting up today, not feeling my best. Can't go up there."
"Yeah, I'm feeling kinda dizzy, too. On a good day, I'd wipe the floor with this guy!"
The guys who were all talk earlier started making lame excuses, earning eye rolls from the girls.
"Aren't the coaches here? Coaches, step up!"
"Yeah, coach, didn't you brag yesterday about being able to take on twenty guys at once? Time to back it up."
Suddenly, everyone was looking at the coaches to save the day. There were over a dozen of them, including boxing coaches, Sanda coaches, and some big, beefy fitness trainers.
But when the members started pushing them, the coaches got cold feet and made excuses. They knew even their best boxing coach couldn't take on the karate expert; stepping up would just mean getting their butts kicked, especially after what happened to Walter.
the karate expert smirked, "With your skills, you run a boxing gym? And you call yourselves the best in the country? Pathetic."
Everyone was fuming at his words but couldn't do anything about it. They were seething but helpless.
Walter dragged himself back to the stage, looking like he'd been through a meat grinder. That last punch to the head had messed him up good, and he still felt like he was gonna hurl.
James shook his head when he saw Walter's state and said, "You rushed it, man. If you'd seen that obvious opening, you could've taken him down."
Already pissed off, Walter lost it when James chimed in.
"Shut up! With your skills, what right do you have to critique me? Who do you think you are?" he yelled, his humiliation morphing into rage aimed straight at James.
Walter's outburst was like a match to gasoline. Everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, pointing fingers and cursing at James.
"What's this guy's deal? No skills at all, yet he dares to criticize others, acting like he's hot stuff."
"Yeah, I can't stand people like him. All talk, no action. Total coward."
"So infuriating."
"How cheeky!. He was begging for mercy when Walter was beating him, and now that Walter's down, he's mocking him. Disgusting. If he's so great, why doesn't he go up and fight these Skylantis guys?"
"Don't be ridiculous. This coward wouldn't dare. Besides, with his skills, he'd just get his ass handed to him."
"Yeah, he shouldn't go up and embarrass us."
The crowd's insults got nastier and nastier.
Walter, seeing that people were cursing James instead of looking down on him, felt a weird sense of relief. His injuries seemed a bit less painful.
James, on the other hand, didn't bat an eye. After five years with the Johnson family, he was used to this kind of scene.
He just felt disappointed and sighed, realizing these people had a long way to go in terms of strength.
Emberlyn, James' follower, couldn't take it anymore. She shouted, "You know nothing. James is strong. If he went up, he'd wipe the floor with these Skylantis jerks."
She was telling the truth, but no one cared. Instead, they mocked even harder, calling James a coward who hid behind women.
This made Emberlyn see red.
Walter was also ticked off. Seeing Emberlyn still defending James made him even angrier and jealous. He snapped, "Fine, if he's so great, why doesn't he go up and teach them a lesson?"
The crowd roared in agreement.
For a moment, their voices almost drowned out Emberlyn.
She wanted to explain, but she was just one person against a mob. More importantly, if James didn't step into the ring, no amount of talking would help.
"James, don't just stand there. Go up and defeat these people, show them your strength. James?"
Emberlyn was frantic. When she turned around, she was stunned—James was gone.
Not just her, but everyone, including Walter, was confused. James had been standing there a second ago; where did he go? Did he run away?
While everyone thought James had chickened out, a voice suddenly boomed from the ring, "You got a lot of nerve coming to our turf to challenge us. Haven't your teachers ever warned you that the last people you want to mess with are from our nation?"
