Chapter 443 Fooled
Brandy took a sip and frowned; the alcohol was too potent for her. "Juniper, I have a low tolerance for alcohol. If I drink too much, I will become inebriated."
Juniper thought , 'That's exactly what I want.'
"What are you afraid of? If you get drunk, I'll take you to a hotel," Juniper said. "Come on, drink it up."
Brandy still shook her head and said, "Juniper, I really will get drunk."
Juniper immediately got angry and said, "Brandy, are you not treating me as a friend? I've already finished mine, and now you're telling me you can't drink? Finish this glass before you say anything else!"
Seeing how serious Juniper was, Brandy realized she was genuinely upset. She knew some social etiquette; if someone toasted you and finished their drink, it was impolite not to do the same. Reluctantly, she picked up her glass and drank it up in a single gulp.
Fortunately, it was a small glass, not too much as for Brandy. Though her throat felt uncomfortable, she wasn't drunk yet.
When Juniper and the others saw Brandy finish her drink, a flush appeared on her face, making her look so enticing that they couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Juniper, I finished it," Brandy said, putting down her glass, her eyes already a bit hazy.
"Well done. Come on, have some food," Juniper said happily. She knew Brandy's tolerance was poor; a couple more drinks and she'd be out. Once Brandy was drunk, the plan would be complete, and a condo in the City of Mysteries would be hers!
Brandy quickly ate a few bites and drank some tea to feel better.
At this moment, someone else toasted her. It was Quade. "Brandy, come on, a toast to you!"
Brandy quickly shook her head, looking apologetic. "I can't drink anymore."
Quade remarked, "How can you become intoxicated from just a small amount of alcohol? How about this: you drink one glass, and I'll drink two. This is my first toast to you; don't let me down."
Without giving Brandy a chance to refuse, he downed two glasses of red wine and turned his glass upside down to show he had finished.
Brandy frowned even more. She hated these kinds of social gatherings where drinking was mandatory. Besides, she was already feeling dizzy . "Quade, I really can't drink. Can I substitute it with tea?"
Quade's expression immediately darkened, and he said sternly, "Brandy, are you disrespecting me? You drank when Juniper toasted you, but now you're substituting with tea for me? Have I ever wronged you? Why are you slighting me?"
His tone was very unfriendly. Brandy panicked, quickly shaking her head and waving her hands to explain, "Quade, you've misunderstood! That's not what I meant. I really can't drink."
"Are you kidding me? You drank a glass just now, and your face didn't even turn red. I think you're just disrespecting me!"
"That's really not what I meant," Brandy said, almost in tears. Quade's words made her feel terrible. With decision, she was about to drink it up when a hand reached out to stop her glass. "It's my turn."
It was James, who took the glass from Brandy's hand while she was still in shock and said to Quade, "She's my student. I'll drink for her."
With that, he downed the glass effortlessly.
Brandy noticed the spot he drank from was exactly where her lips had touched. Instantly, Brandy blushed, as her heart started racing.
In a way, she and James had just indirectly kissed. How embarrassing.
Quade immediately frowned. He had intended to get Brandy drunk, but James intervened.
Quade was very unhappy and was about to curse at James when the president next to him thought for a moment and said, "So, Brandy is your student, and you'll drink up all the alcohol meant for her?"
"That's right," James nodded.
"Great!" The president laughed, then had the waiter bring a larger glass, filled it up, and raised it to Brandy. "Brandy, a toast to you."
He downed the high-proof alcohol in one gulp, his face not changing at all, clearly showing his high tolerance.
Before Brandy could say anything, James picked up the glass the waiter had filled and drank it up in one gulp.
The president then signaled to Quade and the others to take turns toasting James, with intention to get him drunk.
They were all seasoned drinkers with strong tolerances, and there were four of them. Getting James drunk should be easy.
Once James was drunk, Brandy would be at their mercy.
As for the bill, there was no rush. The manager and waiters had heard James say he would pay half, and there was surveillance footage. They weren't worried about James skipping out on the bill.
They kept toasting Brandy, using various excuses, one glass after another, all of which James drank for her.
By the third glass, James's face was already quite red, looking like he was about to get drunk. Quade and the others were disdainful, thinking James was overestimating himself and would soon be drunk. So they toasted even more frequently, almost every half minute.
However, James accepted every toast, always appearing on the verge of inebriation yet never succumbing to it.
After twelve glasses, James was still in the same state, while each of them had drunk three glasses on average and were starting to feel tipsy.
Then, they continued toasting.
In less than half an hour, James had drunk thirty glasses of red wine, but he still wasn't drunk. On the contrary, Quade and the others were already quite dizzy, with one even throwing up.
Brandy was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. Witnessing James drink for her, glass after glass, without a moment's hesitation, she felt a surge of emotion well up inside her, causing her eyes to redden involuntarily.
They couldn't drink anymore, each having gone to the restroom twice. They looked at James like he was a monster, realizing he was indeed a freak who couldn't get drunk no matter how much he drank.
"Are you all done toasting? Now it's my turn to toast you," James said with a smile, standing up to toast the four of them, looking completely steady, not at all like someone who had drunk a lot.
With this, they deeply regretted it, realizing they had fallen into James's trap!
They didn't dare drink anymore. If they continued, they would really get drunk.
No matter how much James provoked them, they pretended not to hear, completely scared and unwilling to drink more.
James sneered and didn't push them further.
At this point, all the dishes were finally served, filling the table with more than a dozen dishes.
