Chapter 359 Here for James
Why? Not happy to see us?" Leopold joked, grinning.
Dennis was kinda thrown off. Leopold's family popping up outta nowhere was a real curveball. Back when they were neighbors, they were acquaintances at most.
After Leopold's crew moved out, they didn't keep in touch. Now, here they were, showing up with gifts, leaving Dennis scratching his head.
However, manners were manners. Dennis put on a smile and said, "Hey, welcome!"
Leopold's family grinned back as they strolled in. Truth be told, they weren't there for Dennis; they were looking for James. James had bailed them out twice recently, and Dorian had turned over a new leaf thanks to him.
All this was James's doing. They figured they'd bring some gifts to show their appreciation.
They'd been wanting to thank James sooner, but James had vanished without a trace. So, they waited for the right moment to drop by the Johnsons with their goodies.
Kaitlyn, busy whipping up something in the kitchen, heard the ruckus and came out. Seeing Leopold's family, she was just as surprised and confused as Dennis.
"Leopold, Eirian, what brings you guys here?" Kaitlyn said, all smiles as she walked over.
"Long time. We brought some gifts for you," Leopold said, flashing a smile and setting the gifts on the coffee table.
Dennis and Kaitlyn were floored and started waving their hands. Dennis said politely, "Whoa, we can't take these. They're way too much. Please, take them back."
"Yeah, Leopold, it's enough that you came. Why'd you bring such pricey stuff?" Dennis asked.
Their reaction made sense; the gifts were seriously high-end.
Given their so-so relationship with Leopold's family, showing up with such fancy gifts definitely raised some eyebrows.
Dennis wasn't about to accept them without knowing what was up.
"Come on. Don't be so formal. We're old pals. It's just some gifts," Leopold said with a hearty laugh. He seemed way more upbeat than before. Since James had helped them out and Dorian had straightened up, his business was booming, and he was raking in the cash. To him, these gifts were no biggie and totally worth it.
Dorian chimed in, "Seriously, please take them. It's our way of saying thanks."
Kaitlyn, still cautious, asked, "These gifts look super expensive. They must've cost a fortune, right?"
"Not much, just around fifty grand," Dorian said, smiling politely, a far cry from his old cocky self. Ever since he saw James in action, he’d been a total fanboy of James. Plus, with Kieran's help, his status had skyrocketed. He wasn’t just some small-time thug anymore; he was running several spots and living the good life.
Kieran, a big shot himself, was also under James. Dorian just wanted to get on James's good side. Fifty grand, or even half a mil, would be worth it to win James over.
But Dennis and Kaitlyn had no clue about any of this. Hearing the gifts were worth fifty grand, Dennis gaped, "What? Fifty grand? That's way too much."
"It's nothing, really. Dennis, Kaitlyn, your refusal kinda hurts my feelings. I actually wanted to get you something even better, but they were sold out and needed pre-ordering. So, I had to settle for these. My bad," Dorian said, looking genuinely sorry. Then he pulled out a bottle of wine from another box and grinned, "But I did snag this bottle of wine from abroad. It's not super pricey, but it's got a pure taste. Dennis, I know you're into wine, so this one's for you."
Dorian's attitude was so humble, total different from his old self. Dennis and Kaitlyn exchanged glances, both thinking this was like a dream.
To them, this was all too weird, almost unreal. They even wondered if they were hallucinating.
There was only one explanation—Leopold's family must need something big from them, and it wasn't a small favor.
The most likely person they’d need help from was Jennifer. Also, Dorian had a thing for Jennifer before.
They both thought along the same lines.
They exchanged a knowing look, seeing the same thought in each other's eyes.
Then they started checking Dorian out more closely. He looked way better than before—more spirited, dressed in a sharp suit, and pretty handsome. If he focused on his career, he might actually be a good match for Jennifer. Especially Dorian's current humble attitude, they found him very likable.
Coincidentally, Jennifer was going through a breakup and might find it hard to forget James on her own. Maybe they could try to set her up with Dorian, which might help her move on from James sooner.
Thinking of this, they both smiled. Dennis, grinning widely, said, "Dorian, you brought all these gifts. Are they for Jennifer?"
Hearing this, Dorian, shocked at this question, turned pale with fright, shaking his head hurriedly, "No, I wouldn't dare pursue Jennifer."
