Chapter 117: Truly Healed
"I'll treat him." Jennifer bit her lip and stepped forward. Her voice was soft but filled with determination.
She looked at James. "I have a medical license. Even if the patient dies, I won't bear too much responsibility."
James was a bit surprised; he didn't expect Jennifer to stand up for him.
Eugene immediately exclaimed, "Dr. Johnson, don't be foolish. Mr. Edwards is not just any ordinary patient."
Jennifer looked at Eugene coldly, her eyes full of disdain. She couldn't be bothered to respond to him and was ready to take over for James.
To be honest, James felt quite touched. This was the greatest sacrifice Jennifer had made for him in all their years of marriage.
He held Jennifer's outstretched hand, showing a slight smile, and said, "Don't be silly. I'm your husband. How could I let you take the risk for me?"
Jennifer's face turned slightly red as he held her hand. "It is not the time to be stubborn. Let me do the treatment. Once it's done, you should leave quickly. The people outside shouldn't notice you."
"There's really no need," James said seriously. "Trust me, I can heal Mr. Edwards."
"But—" Jennifer was interrupted.
"No more words. I won't fail, and I won't let you down," James said with a bright and confident smile.
Jennifer was deeply moved. At that moment, she felt a sense of happiness for the first time.
While she was in a daze, James had already turned around, his expression becoming serious as he began the procedure, inserting needles into Brandon.
His technique was swift. If Edwin were here, he would be utterly astonished and exclaim that James was a miracle doctor because James was using a long-lost acupuncture technique.
This technique had been lost for a long time, so how could James know how to use it?
This technique was very difficult, and James's ability to use it showed that his medical skills were extremely advanced.
Unfortunately, the people in the operating room didn't recognize this technique and thought James was treating Brandon haphazardly. They were full of disdain for James, especially Eugene, who made no effort to hide his contempt and was completely taking this treatment as a funny show.
The complexity of this technique did not stem from the difficulty of acquiring the skills. In fact, the application method was relatively straightforward. The real challenge lay in harnessing a unique energy flow essential for its execution, a type of energy that is rare among individuals in contemporary society.
James's use of this acupuncture technique was enough to heal Brandon.
After just three minutes, James was drenched in sweat. Others saw him simply inserting needles but didn't realize he was more exhausted than if he had run dozens of miles.
He looked like someone who had just been pulled out of the water.
Jennifer was stunned to see him in this state. She had never seen James so exhausted. "James, why are you sweating so much? Are you okay?"
James took a couple of breaths before he had the strength to speak. "I'm fine. Mr. Edwards is out of danger now."
"You really know how to boast. Just because you inserted a few needles into Mr. Edwards, do you think you can heal him? What a pipe dream!" Eugene immediately mocked without mercy. To him, James was just putting on a show. "You really think you're some kind of miracle doctor..."
Before Eugene could finish his sentence, one of the assistants widened their eyes in disbelief, staring at the ECG monitor. "Dr. Baker, come take a look. Mr. Edwards seems to have a normal heartbeat again."
"What kind of joke is this?" Eugene initially didn't believe it. But when he turned around and saw the curve on the ECG monitor, he was stunned. He then jumped up. "It's really back to normal. How is this possible?"
Eugene's first reaction was to think he had seen it wrong. His second reaction was to believe there was a problem with the machine. He never considered that James could actually heal Brandon.
Jennifer also stared at Brandon's ECG in shock. Like Eugene, she hadn't believed in James. After all, for a professional doctor, such a thing was too absurd and seemingly impossible.
But now, the facts were right in front of them. James had indeed healed Brandon.
Eugene was filled with jealousy. He immediately thought about how much benefit James would gain from healing Brandon.
His eyes turned red, and he said harshly, "Let's not jump to conclusions. We need to re-examine him."
With that, he personally checked Brandon's condition. After a while, he was completely dumbfounded. Brandon had indeed been saved.
‘Could James really be that skilled?’ In that instant, Eugene began to doubt everything.
James removed the needles from Brandon and took a deep breath. He said to Jennifer, "I've healed about eighty percent of Mr. Edwards' condition. With some herbal medicine, he can be fully cured."
Jennifer's lips moved, her eyes filled with astonishment. Even now, she still found it hard to believe. "James, how did you do it?"
James smiled slightly. He was too exhausted to speak much. The acupuncture technique he had just performed had drained his energy and stamina significantly. Fortunately, more of his seals had been lifted recently. If this had been half a month ago, he wouldn't have been able to perform it.
"I'm a bit tired. I am going to have a rest," James said wearily, his body on the verge of collapse.
Seeing him so exhausted, Jennifer felt a pang of heartache. She nodded and supported him as they left the operating room together.
After they left, Eugene looked at Brandon, whose complexion was gradually improving, and a crazy idea popped into his head. ‘I can claim the credit for myself!’
After all, he was the lead surgeon responsible for Brandon's operation. Now that Brandon was healed, it would be natural to think that he was the one who did it.
Moreover, James wasn't a doctor at Lindwood City Hospital, and he didn't have a medical license. Even if Eugene took credit for James's work, there would be no consequences.
Even if James protested and told others that he was the one who healed Brandon, who would believe him?
The more Eugene thought about it, the more excited he became, his body trembling uncontrollably. He immediately told the two assistants, "Mr. Edwards was healed by me, right?"
"Huh? Wasn't Mr. Edwards healed by James?"
The other assistant, who knew Eugene's plan, replied, "We can testify that you healed Mr. Edwards, but what's in it for us?"
Eugene smiled and said, "As long as you admit this, I'll give each of you two hundred thousand dollars."
Hearing Eugene's offer, the two assistants were overjoyed. They exchanged glances and nodded vigorously.
