Chapter 539 James's Warning

Lisa was momentarily petrified by the sudden emergence of the voice.

When she heard the voice, Lisa's body trembled violently, startled, and she reflexively turned her head to see a man standing next to her, frowning and looking at her in confusion.

The man standing next to Lisa was James.

James had just rushed back from Rolf's place and saw a Rolls-Royce parked by the roadside in the neighborhood. Many passersby were taking out their phones to take pictures. At first, he didn't pay much attention to it. To him, a Rolls-Royce was just a means of transportation, no different from a Corolla.

However, as he passed by, he coincidentally overheard Lisa's response to the driver. The familiar tone of her voice piqued his interest, prompting him to take a closer look, and he discovered that it was indeed Lisa!

Wasn't Lisa in the City of Mysteries? How did she end up in Lindwood City, and right below his apartment?

James believed that it was definitely not a coincidence.

James, being a smart person, realized in less than a second that Lisa was most likely here for him.

However, Lisa soon regained her composure and said, "James, so this is where you've been hiding. I’ve been searching high and low for you."

James stared at Lisa and didn't see any hint of a plot in her eyes. His expression softened a bit. He wasn't afraid of Lisa coming to find him; he was just worried that Lisa would go looking for Jennifer.

With Lisa's reponse, James thought that Lisa hadn't contacted Jennifer yet.

James opened the car door, got in, and said to the driver, "Excuse me, this is not the place to talk."

James thought that since Lisa had already found him, avoiding the issue was not a solution; he had to confront the problem.

The driver did not start the car; he was Lisa's chauffeur, not James's, and only followed Lisa's instructions.

"Drive," Lisa commanded.

"Yes, ma'am." The driver nodded.

The driver started the car, and James immediately noticed that this driver was nothing but a third-stage martial artist.

It seemed that Lisa was quite capable, able to have a third-stage martial artist willingly serve as her chauffeur.

"Well, what brings you here this time?" James asked directly. He glanced at the time; it was already eleven o'clock. He had been out for over two hours and wondered if Jennifer would be worried about him.

Lisa looked at him, this man dressed simply but of extraordinary background. She knew James's strength but couldn't gauge his depth. To her, James was unfathomable, as deep as the ocean and as mysterious as the starry sky.

"James, why did you marry into the Johnson family? According to my investigation, the Johnson family is just an ordinary family and has no connection with your Smith family," Lisa asked curiously. This was something she had never been able to figure out.

With her intelligence, there were very few things in the world she couldn't fathom, and James's situation was one of them.

James replied coldly, "It has nothing to do with you. The Johnson family is my second family, and Jennifer is my wife. You'd better not have any designs on them, or I will be very angry."

Facing a stunning woman like Lisa, James remained indifferent, without any amazement or admiration, as if Lisa were just an ordinary woman.

Moreover, this time, when James looked at her, there was not only no admiration but also a hint of coldness and warning.

James's attitude made Lisa very uncomfortable. That feeling of defiance surged in her heart again, making her competitive. She slightly raised the corners of her mouth, revealing a seductive smile, and teased, "Angry? Can you show me now?"

She provocatively moved closer to James, her seductive and teasing expression having a great impact on any man!

Even James couldn't help but have his heart race and adrenaline surge. He was a man, a man with a normal sexual orientation. Facing Lisa's teasing, he could control his hands but not his instincts.

James admitted that Lisa was indeed a very lethal woman. Every smile and gesture was full of feminine charm, reaching the pinnacle of womanhood.

No wonder so many people in the City of Mysteries were obsessed with her, even Neil and Maurice couldn't resist.

If it were five years ago, James would have undoubtedly become her loyal follower.

But now, James already had Jennifer in his heart. Facing Lisa's teasing, apart from the instinctive reaction of a man, he didn't feel any emotional stirrings and quickly controlled himself.

"Lisa, I don't want to be your enemy. You'd better not provoke me," James warned calmly, with no emotional fluctuations.

Lisa, upon seeing him for less than three seconds, had already regained her composure. She felt a surge of indignation and a sense of being defeated.

Just as she was about to speak, she saw a blur in front of her eyes, and James disappeared, having jumped out of the window.

Her face darkened, she clenched her fists, and cursed, "Damn it."

At this moment, the driver in front said, "Ms. Savoy, this James is not simple."

Lisa asked, "Can you tell where his strength lies?"

The driver shook his head and replied, "I can't tell. James is unfathomable. To have such martial arts skills at such a young age is rare in the world."

"Well, he is the most talented person in the history of the Smith family, even surpassing Neil," Lisa said, her eyes flashing with light, thinking about something.

The driver also nodded, "I can still gauge Mr. Stewart's strength, but I can't see through James at all. The youth nowadays are truly impressive."

On James's side, after jumping out of the car, he landed gracefully without any injury. Under the astonished gazes of several passersby, he simply hailed a taxi by the roadside and returned to the neighborhood.

When he got back, he found Jennifer already asleep in bed. Dennis and Kaitlyn were also at home, and everything was as peaceful as usual.

James couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed he had returned in time, and Lisa hadn't found Jennifer yet.

He wasn't worried that Lisa would harm Jennifer. Although he had only met her once, he knew Lisa wasn't that kind of person and had no reason to do so.

Besides, Lisa was a smart person; she knew the consequences of such actions.

Thinking Jennifer was asleep, he didn't get into bed, afraid of waking her. He simply lay down on the sofa next to her to sleep for the night.

What he didn't know was that Jennifer wasn't asleep at all. She had opened her eyes, and they were swollen from crying.
