Chapter 59 Wishing You Happiness in Your Remaining Years

James laughed silently, realizing suddenly that he had been a fool the whole time. It was clear that Jennifer was about to file a divorce agreement that day.

He knew that Jennifer had a lawyer friend whose office was in that building. He had mistakenly thought that he had truly touched Jennifer, but it was all wishful thinking on his part.

Seeing James's expression, Jennifer panicked and hurriedly explained, "Don't misunderstand, I just..."

She couldn't continue because she didn't know what to say. Today, she went to print the divorce agreement to come back and sign it with James, and her name was already signed on it.

And James already saw it.

Five years of emotions, five years of marriage, five years of being together day and night, five years of companionship.

To say there was no affection between them at all would be a lie.

James knew that his behavior over these five years had indeed been disappointing, so even if Jennifer scolded him, despised him, or humiliated him, he wasn't truly angry. Because he knew that Jennifer was treating him this way out of frustration.

But now, Jennifer was asking for a divorce over a small matter, without even giving him a chance to explain.

Honestly, James was very disappointed and hurt now.

Perhaps he and Jennifer were destined to not be together, unable to overcome all kinds of hurdles that came during their marriage.

"Do you have a pen?" James asked as he suddenly became very calm at this moment, with a faint smile on his face, though occasional intense reluctance and sadness flickered in his eyes.

Jennifer felt scared and regretful at James's expression, a situation she had never encountered before. She quickly shook her head and said, "James, listen to me! I was impulsive today, please, please... Don't misunderstand, I, I..."

She didn't know how to continue, and finally, with red eyes, she burst into tears.

Watching her cry, James felt it was ironic. He said, "Actually, you don't need to feel guilty, and I don't seek for your sympathy. Since you have thoughts of divorce, you must have thought about it many times and made the decision. I respect your choice.

"After all, from the beginning, you never loved me. I know all of this. So, you don't have to do this. Bring the pen, and I wish you happiness in your remaining years."

"James, you..." Jennifer's heart ached, tears streaming down, but she couldn't continue. Holding her chest, it seemed like she was about to something important.

But James had already stopped looking at her. He finally found a pen in Jennifer's bag, paused for two seconds, and then wrote his name "James" on the signature line.

"Sorry for dirtying your bag." James threw the pen on the ground, set the divorce agreement aside, and then stood up, slightly trembling.

Jennifer watched the divorce agreement stained with James's blood on the ground, feeling lost.

James quickly bandaged his hand, took out his phone, and called Michael, "Hey, buddy, it's me. I have a bit of a problem here. Can you arrange for someone to come over?... No, I've already handled it, just a loose end, and also, please report to the police..."

After the call, James leaned against a tree, closing his eyes to rest.

Michael acted swiftly, arriving in less than ten minutes. When he saw James covered in blood, he was startled, and asked, "James, what's going on?"

James smiled bitterly as he replied, "Something happened."

He briefly explained to Michael, who became furious, "Unbelievable! This John is audacious, daring to do such a thing! James, rest assured, with me here, we'll make sure this is handled properly! Hmph, since he dares to kidnap, attempt assault, and intentionally harm, he will certainly spend his whole life in prison!"

With Michael's words, James felt relieved.

Shortly after, the police arrived, made a brief report, and took John and his two accomplices away.

Due to his injuries, Michael arranged for James to be taken to the city's People's Hospital.

As for Jennifer, she stared blankly at the divorce agreement, finally letting out a long sigh.

The day's events proved to be too startling for her, filled with twists and turns that required some time for her to reconcile her thoughts.

Holding the divorce agreement in her hand, she took a deep breath and then tore it up!

John's crimes this time were too severe, involving not just kidnapping but also attempted assault, rape, and intentional harm. With a stack of charges, and with Michael‘s pressure on police, he wouldn't be coming out of prison for decades.

To be honest, he also felt a lingering fear. A man as capable as James would be a great loss if he died.

After arranging for Jennifer to be taken home, Michael and James went to the city's People's Hospital together.

"James, you acted a bit recklessly in this matter. When faced with such a situation, why didn't you call me? At the very least, you should have reported it to the police. If something happened to you, it would be a loss to society," Michael chided.

James smiled bitterly and explained, "The situation was too dangerous at the time, I couldn't think about all that. Besides, how does it become a loss to society?"

"That's undeniable. With your life-saving medical skills, how could it not be a loss to society?" Michael said seriously.

After chatting with Michael for a while, James felt drowsy and fell asleep.

The next day, Michael's family came to visit him, including Harmony. However, she seemed quite embarrassed, especially after James had seen her whole body. Even though she had just arrived, she swiftly glanced at James, and then left. It was a difficult hurdle for her to overcome.

In fact, James's injuries were not severe, just that he had lost a lot of blood at the time, and the wound was not properly treated, making him appear weak. After a night of rest, he was already much better.

His recovery ability was also faster than the average person, and he would be able to leave the hospital after a few days of observation.

The next day, when the doctor saw that his wound was actually starting to heal, he was amazed.

After seeing off The Brown Family, the phone suddenly rang. It was Kaitlyn calling,
"Hey, James, why didn't you come home last night?" Kaitlyn asked.

James still respected Kaitlyn. Over the years, she had treated him like a son-in-law and never looked down on him. But as soon as he thought about his divorce from Jennifer, he felt a bit sorry for his kind-hearted mother-in-law.

"Mom, I have something to deal with, I'll be back in a couple of days," James replied.

"Oh, I specially made chicken soup for you to nourish your body," Kaitlyn informed and sounded a bit disappointed.

James was touched, and then Kaitlyn continued, "James, I saw Jennifer come back last night with swollen eyes. Are you and your wife having some arguments? I know that you've suffered a lot in our family over the years.

"Jennifer, she's tough on the outside but soft on the inside; she doesn't really look down on you. Couples inevitably have disagreements but always reconcile.

You've been married for five years; this is a blessing accumulated over several lifetimes, and you must cherish it. Come back soon, and l am waiting to hold my grandchild."

James's lips moved, wanting to say something, but he never said it. He just helplessly replied, "Got it, Mom. I'll finish up here and come back soon."

Regardless, over the past few years, his mother-in-law had been kind to him. Even if they really divorced, he had to go back and explain.
