Chapter 440 The Second Menu
Once again, all eyes focused on James.
James said, "Who's going to cover the other half of the money?"
Brandy, seeing that he still hadn't backed out, began to get anxious again.
The president smiled, deftly flicking his lighter open, igniting it, and then snapping it shut with a smooth motion. "I'll handle it."
James deliberately remained silent for a moment, hesitating and struggling, then asked, "You guys aren't going to intentionally spend a lot, are you?"
With this, everyone felt even more peculiar. The president waved his hand and said, "Don't worry, don't worry. We won't eat that much. It's just one meal. How much could it possibly be?"
James patted his chest, looking relieved. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's start ordering. I'm starving."
Quade and the others exchanged glances, all showing expressions of a successful scheme, laughing even more happily.
'What an idiot. Brandy has helped him so much, yet he still doesn't leave and stays to get himself killed.'
'Just wait. In a moment, we'll eat up twenty or thirty thousand dollars and bankrupt you directly!' Quade and the others thought.
Quade now also realized that Brandy clearly had a good relationship with James. If he didn't deal with James, it would be difficult to get Brandy.
'Doesn't Brandy admire James a lot? When it's time to pay the bill and James can't come up with the money, he'll be embarrassed. As long as Brandy isn't a fool, she won't have any good feelings for James anymore, and by then, Brandy won't be able to escape.' Quade mused.
Brandy wanted to stop James once more, but was immediately restrained by Juniper, who gave her a knowing look, signaling that they wouldn't truly hold James accountable. Brandy hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to trust her.
Next, everyone started ordering. They were very confident that James definitely couldn't afford it, so they didn't specifically order very expensive dishes, trying to keep the total under fifty thousand dollars. After all, splitting fifty thousand dollars in half still meant twenty-five thousand dollars each, so they would still have to pay. The reason for this arrangement was just to embarrass James and drive him away from Brandy.
Moreover, it would also showcase the president's financial power and win Brandy's favor. After all, in this world, which woman didn't like money?
They thought they had it all figured out, but they underestimated James.
"Mr. Smith, we're ordering ten lobsters, each costing around a thousand dollars. Is that okay?" Quade said. Just this dish alone would cost over ten thousand dollars.
James frowned and said, "There are only seven of us. We don't need that many, do we?"
"Lobster is exquisite. Ten is certainly not excessive. Naturally, if you're feeling parsimonious, that's a different story," Quade remarked with a mocking tone.
James seemed to be provoked, snorted, and said, "Why would I be stingy? I just don't particularly like lobster. There's no need to order so many."
The president directly told the waiter, "Order ten lobsters."
The president's generosity was particularly noticeable compared to James's hesitation.
Quade and the others continued ordering, telling James the price of each dish to provoke him each time. By the time they finished, they had already ordered over twenty thousand dollars' worth of food.
Seeing James frowning all the time, looking regretful, made them especially happy.
"Mr. Smith, we've finished ordering. It's your turn." Quade handed the menu to James. They all smirked at him, anticipating he would choose the least expensive dish, perhaps just vegetables.
James handed the menu to Brandy, smiling, "Brandy, see what you want to eat and order whatever you like."
Brandy took the menu, glanced at it as she was shocked. These dishes were so expensive. Even a vegetable dish cost over a hundred dollars. It was outrageous. Some of the more expensive dishes even cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Brandy quickly returned the menu to James and said, "Mr. Smith, I don't have anything particular in mind. You go ahead and order."
Juniper rudely grabbed the menu, looking excited. "I'll order a few things."
Juniper had been in the City of Mysteries for two years and had never eaten at such a high-end hotel, especially with such expensive dishes, and she didn't have to pay. It was fantastic. She certainly wouldn't miss such a good opportunity!
After taking the menu, she directly looked for expensive dishes. Seeing a dish that cost thirteen thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight dollars, her heart raced. She was about to order it when Quade kicked her, warning her not to go overboard. She calmed down, didn't dare to order it, and unhappily ordered three dishes costing several thousand dollars each before reluctantly pushing the menu to James.
Excluding drinks, the food alone had already exceeded thirty thousand dollars.
'James must be trembling with fear at this price, right?' They thought and all eagerly awaited James's reaction.
How could James not know what they were thinking? After taking the menu, he didn't immediately order but asked the waiter, "How much have we ordered so far?"
The waiter looked at James with disdain, clearly scornful inside. 'Please, poor people like you shouldn't come to a five-star hotel to eat. Can you even afford this place?'
He said sarcastically, "So far, you've ordered thirty-two thousand dollars' worth of food. For some people, that is indeed a lot."
Quade and the others laughed, comfortably leaning back in their chairs, watching James's embarrassment.
James frowned and said, "Only that much?"
They were momentarily stunned. What did he mean? Was this poor guy still wanted to show off?
Even Brandy couldn't stand it and thought, 'How could James be so pretentious? I used to admire him so much.'
The waiter impatiently said, "Are you going to order or not? If not, I'll go place the order."
For normal customers, he wouldn't dare show such an attitude because anyone who could afford to dine at Serenity Haven Hotel was definitely wealthy. Poor people like James were very rare, so he didn't need to show James any respect.
James didn't get angry. He tapped the table while flipping through the menu. He went through it from beginning to end without ordering a single dish. Quade immediately said, "What's up, Mr. Smith? Don't you like any of the dishes? Or do you think they're too expensive and can't bring yourself to order? Actually, you don't need to worry. No matter how much you order, you only need to pay half."
Everyone except Brandy laughed.
James also laughed and said, "I simply cannot bring myself to place an order. These dishes are far too cheap and mundane. It's quite dull."
Then he said to the waiter, "Bring me the second menu of Serenity Haven Hotel."
The waiter was slightly taken aback. He clearly didn't expect James to know that Serenity Haven Hotel had a second menu.
The key was that the second menu wasn't something most wealthy people could afford. The cheapest dish cost tens of thousands of dollars, and the most expensive ones went up to hundreds of thousands.
