Chapter 64 Unbearable

Dennis and Kaitlyn both had some awkward expressions on their faces. They had heard this topic more than once, and they were indeed concerned about it. They had been married for five years without any children, which made them anxious.

Kaitlyn chuckled, and reasoned, "Young people nowadays are not willing to have children so early, unlike our generation."

"That's not entirely true," Tony continued to give his two cents as if adding fuel to the fire. "If a couple has been married for one or two years without children, it's still acceptable. But James and Jennifer have been married for five years without children, which is quite concerning. Didn't you want a grandchild?"

Kaitlyn's expression was a bit awkward. She had been looking forward to having a grandchild for a long time, but Jennifer had not gotten pregnant yet, and she couldn't do anything about it.

Kaitlyn helplessly replied, "Well, young people have their own thoughts on how they wish to handle these things."

Leonard deliberately asked with concern, "Aunt, has James been to the hospital for a check-up? After all, being married for so many years and Jennifer didn’t get pregnant is not quite normal. Moreover, many young people nowadays are not that healthy, and there are plenty of people who are infertile."

Although he seemed to care about James, there was a hint of gloating and mockery in his eyes, which was unpleasant.

Dennis and Kaitlyn exchanged worried glances. Leonard's words had stirred something in them. Yes, why hadn't they thought about this issue before?

Normally, after five years of marriage, a couple would have had multiple children, but their daughter had shown no signs of pregnancy. They had to suspect that there might be some issue with James's physiology.

Even the meekest person has a limit. Despite James's good temper, he was annoyed by Leonard's teasing.

Out of consideration for Kaitlyn, James didn't want to engage with Leonard too much. He let go of Leonard's earlier taunts, but now, implying that he was infertile was too much for him to bear.

He smiled and said, "Don't worry about me, Leonard. Both Jennifer and I are perfectly healthy, with no issues in that aspect. As for why we haven't had children yet, it's because we haven't prepared ourselves to be parents."

Pausing for a moment, he changed his expression and added with concern, "On the other hand, Leonard, if you're ill, please make sure to seek treatment promptly. Delaying any treatment will only worsen the condition, and with an illness like yours, if it's left untreated, it could also affect Kayla, which wouldn't be good."

Upon hearing this, Leonard hesitated for a moment, then quickly regained his composure and replied, "James, what nonsense are you talking about? Where on my body am I sick? Besides, you're just a freeloader, what do you know about seeking medical treatment!"

Kayla, standing beside them, also spoke angrily, "Exactly, Leonard, you're very healthy, there's no signs of any illness. You better take care of yourself!"

Tony also looked displeased, thinking that James was getting defensive and deliberately cursing Leonard. Despite the unpleasant incident that had occurred before, he was quite satisfied with his son-in-law.

Over this period, Leonard had shown a lot of respect, and any anger he had had dissipated. Comparing their son-in-law to the one in the elder sister's family, their own son-in-law was far better in many ways.

Dennis lightly kicked James and whispered, "Don't speak out of turn."

James suddenly realized and said to Tony and Kayla, "Oh, you guys didn't know about it. It's nothing, let's just eat."

But the way he said it made it seem like there was indeed something serious, making Tony and Kayla feel insulted, as if they were being mocked.

Leonard had always been in good shape, going to the gym regularly and maintaining a perfect physique. Just a couple of nights ago, he had even satisfied his wife.

However, when Leonard heard what James was muttering under his breath, his expression changed instantly. A slight tremor ran through his body, and had Tony and Kayla not been focused on James, they would have observed his unusual action.

But the action was still caught by Dennis and Kaitlyn, who found it somewhat peculiar.

Tony snorted disapprovingly and said in a harsh tone, "James, I know you've been jealous of Leonard for a long time, particularly jealous of his success and wealth. But there's no need to curse Leonard like this, right?"

Then he turned to Dennis and Kaitlyn, and added, "Well, I have to say, it seems like you haven't properly disciplined this son-in-law of yours!"

His tone was full of undisguised sarcasm, leaving no face for Dennis and Kaitlyn.

"James, what nonsense are you talking about? Apologize to Leonard!" Dennis said, displeased.

James shrugged, and explained, "Dad, I didn't curse Leonard. He is indeed sick. But it seems Leonard hasn't told Uncle and Kayla about it. Since Uncle asked me to speak, I'll just say it."

As he was about to continue, Leonard finally spoke up, "Alright, enough of this nonsense. It's just a minor cold. Dad, honey, why are you both getting involved in James's nonsense? Let's just eat."

His eyes flickered slightly, pretending to be displeased as he spoke a few words and then continued to focus on his food.

As Leonard's wife, Kayla knew him well. She could tell that Leonard was acting guilty.

Tony's brow furrowed as well.

At this point, James wasn't about to give Leonard any leeway. "Leonard has been socializing a lot lately, hasn't he?" he remarked.

A shiver ran down Leonard's spine, his anxiety mounting. He had no idea how James found out, but if Tony and Kayla Hill got wind of it, he would be in serious trouble.

So, he raised his head and shot James a threatening glare, fierce and menacing, as if to say, "If you dare speak of this, you'll regret it."

However, James was not intimidated by this feeble threat. Pretending not to notice, he continued, "Well, Leonard is a businessman, socializing is inevitable. But isn't it inappropriate to engage in such activities behind Kayla's back and bring back this kind of trouble?"

Kayla Hill was no fool. By now, she had a pretty good idea of what illness James was referring to, and her expression turned grim.

Under normal circumstances, she would never have believed it. But Leonard's guilty behavior seemed to confirm James's suspicions.

Lately, Leonard had indeed been frequently out and socializing, coming home late, reeking of alcohol. Once, she even caught a whiff of another woman's scent on him. That had raised some doubts, but Leonard had sworn to her that he was faithful. She had believed him.

But now, it was clear that Leonard was not only cheating but had also brought back this kind of trouble.

Tony, on the other hand, still hadn't figured out the riddle. He slammed his bowl on the table and said angrily, "Enough! James, I've tolerated you for a long time. I understand that you are jealous of Leonard, but now you're accusing him of messing around outside.

"You've gone too far! Apologize to Leonard immediately! This is outrageous. Have you forgotten that Leonard is known for his honesty and his great relationship with you, Kayla?!"
