Chapter 309 Kieran
Dorian was being choked by James, his legs kicking like crazy. He finally freaked out and started begging, "James, man, I messed up!"
Leopold and Eirian were just as shocked. They still cared about Dorian and quickly chimed in, "James, can you let him go, please?"
James wasn't planning on killing Dorian. After making his point, he let him go.
With a cold stare, he warned, "If you ever hit your parents again, I'll mess you up."
"I won't, I won't," Dorian stammered, genuinely scared of James. He realized this James was a whole new beast, not the pushover he used to be.
Dorian was a real pain. Seeing him get put in his place by James, Leopold and Eirian didn't feel much pity; in fact, they found it pretty satisfying.
"Where do you think you're going?" Leopold roared, slamming his hand on the table and glaring at Dorian, who was trying to sneak off.
"I'm just going out to find a safe spot... no, I mean, I'm going downstairs to grab a pack of smokes." Dorian quickly corrected himself, still shaken by James. He didn't dare talk back to Leopold, scared he might set James off again.
James saw right through him and said, "Nope, you can't go. They might still be downstairs. If you go down, you're asking for trouble."
Leopold nodded, "Listen to James."
Dorian's face twisted in frustration, "But staying here is even worse. That Elijah guy, he's definitely gone to get his boss. His boss is a big deal, with a whole crew. If we stay, we're toast. Dad, you and Mom should run. If we don't leave now, we might not get another chance."
Leopold's face went pale, "Really?"
"Really! Why would I lie?" Dorian's fear was palpable, his face turning ghostly white. "James might be tough, but he can't take on a whole gang by himself, right?"
Leopold started to worry too. He looked at James and asked softly, "James, Dorian might be right. Should we bail? We're just regular folks; we can't handle these thugs."
James took a slow sip of his tea, totally calm. After setting the cup down, he said, "It's fine. With me here, it doesn't matter how many show up."
His serene smile made Leopold feel a lot better, easing his nerves.
Dorian, on the other hand, was full of doubt. He thought James was delusional. 'You alone can take on a whole gang? Who do you think you are, Superman?' he thought.
But he didn't dare show it. Instead, he pleaded, his legs shaking, "James, I'm serious. Elijah's boss, Kieran, is a big shot around here. His word is law, even more than the cops! And he's super protective of his crew. If he comes after us, we're done for. James, I know you're tough, but you can't take on a whole gang, right?"
He thought he made it clear enough. If James had any sense, he'd realize how serious this was!
Elijah's boss, Kieran, was a real piece of work. Dorian had the misfortune of crossing paths with him once. The guy had this intense look and a presence that could make others shiver from a mile away. Just one glance from Kieran, and Dorian was shaking in his boots. No way could a regular dude like him mess with someone like that. Even if James was a badass, going up against Kieran seemed like a death wish.
"Kieran?" James muttered, a bit thrown off. The name rang a bell, but he couldn't quite place it.
He shrugged it off. Didn't matter who this Kieran was; James was confident he could handle it. He'd already stepped in to help Leopold, so he might as well see it through. If he bailed now, Leopold's family would be in deep trouble later.
"Yeah, Kieran! Everyone respects him. He's a big deal around here!" Dorian said, practically shaking.
James just waved it off, "No worries. If he shows up, I'll deal with it all at once."
Dorian was losing it, wanting to bolt but too scared of James to make a move. He was stuck, panicking and clueless.
James ignored Dorian's freak-out. He calmed Leopold down and chatted over tea, talking about how to keep Dorian in line. James suggested that if a kid didn't listen, sometimes they needed a good smack, which made Dorian sweat bullets.
Soon, Eirian finished cooking and brought out the food, inviting James to dig in.
The smell hit James, and he almost teared up. He washed his hands and dove in.
The first bite of meat was like a taste of heaven, bringing tears to his eyes. Finally, some real food!
Eirian's cooking was still top-notch. James ate like a man starved, shocking Leopold's family with his appetite.
Watching James chow down, they couldn't help but wonder if he'd just gotten out of prison.
Dorian, seeing James devour the food, was freaked out. 'Is he even human? Maybe he's a monster,' he thought.
James didn't care about their stares; he was too busy stuffing his face.
But just as he was about to take another bite, he heard footsteps in the hallway. He frowned, annoyed. Nothing pissed him off more than being interrupted while eating.
The door was kicked open, and a voice boomed, "James, get out here!"
Leopold and the others jumped, especially Dorian, who looked like he was about to faint.
A group of guys stormed in, led by a burly dude with a fierce look and a strong presence.
Elijah was right beside him, head down, looking like a whipped dog. He pointed at James and shouted, "Kieran! It's him!"
James saw Kieran and couldn't help but laugh. 'Isn't this the same Kieran I beat up twice before? No wonder the name sounded familiar. This is gonna be fun,' James thought.
