Chapter 184 Get Out of Here
Michael, being the wealthiest man in Lindwood City, was well-known in the industry, and many people approached him for a greeting.
Finally, someone steered the topic towards James and curiously asked Michael, "Mr. Brown, who is this young man beside you?"
Others also began to focus on James as well.
Michael smiled and said, "His name is James. Don't be fooled by his youth; his medical skills are exceptional. He is a very promising young man."
Michael introduced James to everyone and said many good things about him. However, these people still treated James indifferently, saying a few perfunctory words before ending the conversation.
They were even too arrogant to shake hands with James.
The truth was that James looked too ordinary, even to the point of being mediocre. Especially with his attire, he seemed like someone from the lower rungs of society. So, no one would like to greet him.
Michael then realized James's shabby attire, saying, "Oh dear, I forgot to get you to change the clothes."
James also realized why he had become the center of attention as soon as he walked in.
Everyone at tonight's event was a prominent figure, dressed in suits and formal attire. Even the wait staff here wore outfits costing hundreds of dollars. Only James came in such simple clothes, completely out of place in this high-end setting.
If it weren't for Michael by his side, the security guards would have thought he had sneaked in and would have thrown him out.
James touched his nose and said, "No need, I think I'm fine as I am."
Michael shook his head and said meaningfully, "Clothes make the man, and it is such an important occasion tonight. You can't compare anyone in these clothes. We should go back to change your clothes."
James, unaware of the banquet theme tonight, smiled and said, "Why should I compare myself to others? Alright, Michael, you go ahead and do your thing. I'll just wander around here. Besides, keeping a low profile is fine with me."
Hearing James's words, he didn't insist any further. After speaking to James, he went off to socialize.
After Michael left, James felt even more at ease and headed straight for the buffet area. He hadn't had dinner before Michael brought him here, and now he was starving.
James found the buffet to be the most attractive part of tonight's banquet. It was lavish, with all kinds of rare ingredients, and everything tasted great. He began devouring the food ravenously.
James felt as if the seal on him had been broken, not only had his strength increased significantly, but his appetite had increased as well. He could now eat five times as much as an average person.
Previously, he had eaten only a little so as not to arouse Jennifer's suspicion. Now, he could finally eat to his heart's content.
As a result, his image became even less refined. He was already dressed unconventionally, and now, with his ravenous eating, it was hard not to draw attention.
"Who is this guy? Has he never eaten before in his life?"
"Look at his clothes, they're so shabby. My dog wears more expensive clothes than he does. He must be a homeless man who sneaked in."
"I feel the same way. The hotel's security is really poor, letting a homeless man sneak in."
"Absolutely."
Lots of people started mocking him.
James's ravenous eating quickly drew the attention of those around him. They pointed and whispered, finding him repulsive, as if they believed James was to be an inferior individual who had insulted them by his mere presence.
James ignored their mockery and continued to feast. After all, he wasn't a high-society person who needed to maintain a decent image. With free food available, why shouldn't he eat? Besides, he had been hungry for a long time, and now that he finally had a chance to eat to his heart's content, he wasn't going to let it slip by.
Thinking about that, he continued to eat.
With a large lobster in his left hand and a roasted pork knuckle in his right, James ate with great delight.
"Boss, look, that guy seems to be James."
Hearing his subordinate's words, Jared turned around to see James gorging himself. He was initially stunned, then his brows furrowed, and a wave of fierce anger flashed through his eyes. "He actually came here too?"
"I've been looking for you, and here you are right in front of me!" Jared downed his glass of red wine in one gulp and strode towards James.
As he approached, he heard the guests mocking James and smirked coldly. Standing before James, he deliberately said loudly, "It is not someplace suitable for you. What are you doing here?"
However, James ignored him, continuing to eat as if he hadn't heard Jared at all.
He was too hungry, and the food here was delicious, clearly prepared by top chefs. James enjoyed every bite. As for Jared's mockery, he didn't take it to heart.
In the past five years, he had endured plenty of ridicule, and his mental fortitude had become very strong. Jared's taunts were nothing to him.
Seeing that James didn't even lift his head, completely ignoring him, Jared's eyes darkened further. If it weren't for the importance of tonight's event, he would have slapped James and beaten him up right then and there.
Someone nearby asked Jared, "Jared, do you know him?"
Jared sneered, "Him? He's just a piece of trash. Look at his clothes; even street scavengers have more capability than him. I don't know how he managed to sneak in."
Jared then went on to say many disparaging things about James.
Under Jared's relentless mockery, the people around them looked down on James even more, feeling that sharing the same space with him was an insult.
"Enough, this is not a place for someone of your low status. Get out of here," Jared said harshly, his tone unfriendly.
But James still ignored him, continuing to eat as if no one else was there.
Jared's brow twitched violently. He struggled to maintain his composure. "I'm warning you, don't play dumb. I'll count to three. If you don't get out, don't blame me for what I might do to you."
His voice was filled with anger, his eyes wide, and his fists clenched. He clearly behaved inappropriately.
Normally, Jared wasn't so ill-tempered, but James's disregard was too much for him to bear. Just looking at him made Jared lose his temper. Never in his life had he disliked someone so intensely.
After a while, James had almost finished eating. He looked up at Jared, wiped his mouth, and smiled. "What do you plan to do?"
He put down his food and elegantly wiped his mouth with a napkin, his movements so refined that it seemed he had turned into a different person, leaving those around him momentarily stunned.
