Chapter 581 The Smith Family is About to Change
"James, you stay." As James and Usher were both preparing to leave, Alistair called out to James.
Usher's expression changed slightly again, but he quickly returned to normal. He patted James on the shoulder and said sincerely, "James, you haven't talked to Alistair in a long time. This time, don't argue with him."
James didn't respond, letting Usher's insincere words fall into the air.
After Usher left, only James and Alistair them remained in the study. Alistair looked at James, his most proud grandson.
James's expression was calm, without any waves. Even in front of Alistair, he no longer had the reverence he once did.
In the entire Smith family, only James was unafraid of Alistair.
It was hard to tell whether this was comforting or infuriating.
James also looked at Alistair, noticing that he seemed older and more tired than before. No matter what, Alistair was still his grandfather, and James felt a deep respect for him.
Finally, it was James who broke the silence, saying, "Alistair, it's time for you to rest."
Alistair felt a warmth in his heart but maintained a serious demeanor, saying, "It would be better if you didn't upset me so often."
Alistair was still the same .
"Come back," Alistair said after a while.
James remained silent.
"I can let you marry Ms. Johnson," Alistair said, then added, "as your first wife."
James was a bit surprised that Alistair was willing to compromise.
However, James wasn't particularly moved. The Smith Manor no longer held much attraction for him.
Alistair quickly noticed his indifference, his eyebrows twitching. He frowned and said, "James, don't forget that the blood of the Smith family runs in your veins. Now, the Smith family..."
Before he could finish, James nodded and said, "Okay."
Alistair was taken aback. "What?"
James added, "I can return to the Smith Manor."
Alistair breathed a sigh of relief. He realized that James had become more formidable, even overpowering him in presence. With James as the head of the family, the Smith family could surely rise to new heights.
"That's good. As for the Percy family, if you don't want to reconcile, it doesn't matter. I don't care about Mason's attitude. But with Usher, I hope you can handle it well. After all, Usher is your cousin, and he shares the same blood as you," Alistair said meaningfully.
James nodded, "I understand."
After a pause, Alistair continued, "What about Lisa? Do you want me to break off the engagement with the Savoy family?"
Seeing Alistair's rare kind expression, a flurry of warmth coursing through James's heart..
"No need, I'll handle Lisa by myself." James stood up and walked towards Alistair, saying, "Alistair, let me give you a massage."
Alistair's lips trembled as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he just gave a nod.
James placed his ten fingers on Alistair's head, and a powerful yet gentle inner energy flowed through his fingers into Alistair's head, making Alistair relax and feel very comfortable.
Before long, Alistair fell asleep. James covered him with a blanket and carefully left the study.
At dinner, Alistair announced to everyone that James's status as the heir to the family head was restored and that the next month, the new heir would be officially announced.
This news immediately shocked everyone in the Smith family. They realized that the Smith family was about to change!
Usher and Wylie, who were also at the dinner, had strong reactions and lowered their heads even more.
The room fell silent, and no one dared to make a sound.
Alistair, dissatisfied, frowned and knocked on the table, saying, "Have you all become mute? Say something."
In front of the other members of the Smith family, Alistair's authority was still absolute. Except for James, everyone, including Usher and Wylie, feared him and quickly voiced their opinions.
"James is highly capable and should have been restored as the heir long ago."
"I agree with Alistair's decision."
"I agree as well."
Alistair nodded in satisfaction and then turned to Usher and Wylie, saying, "Usher, Wylie, what do you think?"
"I support Alistair's decision."
"I also support Alistair's decision."
"That's good." Alistair then looked at James and said, "James, you need to perform well during this time. Don't lose to Usher and Wylie, understand?" James nodded, "I will do my best."
They continued eating, but no one had much of an appetite, each lost in their own thoughts.
Especially those who had previously targeted James; they were now particularly anxious, fearing James's retaliation.
They all knew that among the three heirs, James was the most outstanding and had the highest chance of becoming the head of the family. If James succeeded, they would be in trouble if he decided to target them.
So after dinner, they immediately went to curry favor with James, offering gifts and apologies.
James didn't refuse because he knew that rejecting them would only cause more trouble in the future, so he accepted their gifts.
Even though they were family, their interactions felt more like a workplace.
Because of this, James waited another day before going to find Lisa.
"Ms. Savoy, didn't James return to New York yesterday? Why hasn't he come to see you yet?" In Lisa's private villa, Heather asked softly while helping her with her makeup.
Tonight was the birthday of Cynthia, one of the three beauties of City of Mysteries. Peers of similar status in the industry would attend.
This included Neil, Maurice, Lisa, the third beauty Brenda, and a few others, all gathering to celebrate Cynthia's birthday.
It was a top-tier event for the younger generation in City of Mysteries.
James used to be a lone wolf, only associating with Gregory, Donna, and Emberlyn. He interacted so little with others in the business that he was considered an outsider.
But tonight, James's intention to attend Cynthia's birthday party was not to celebrate but to find Lisa, clear things up, and inquire about the whereabouts of Jennifer, Dennis, and Kaitlyn.
