Chapter 145: Honey, Do You Like It?
The large jewelry store fell into absolute quiet, and everyone was dumbfounded and completely stunned.
Barbara and Loren were even more shocked. The expressions full of mockery from the second before were now frozen on their faces, making them look extremely ridiculous.
It wasn't just them; everyone else was equally astonished, even Jennifer was taken aback.
After all, this situation was as absurd to them as Mars colliding with Earth. They thought it was impossible. James didn't look like a wealthy person at all; his clothes were cheap, totaling no more than two or three hundred dollars. How could he afford such a precious piece of jewelry worth two million dollars?
Seeing everyone's reactions, James felt quite pleased.
He smiled and said to Loren, "Mr. Schneider, I just paid for mine, it's your turn."
Loren's mouth twitched, his face looked grim, and his lips quivered a few times, unable to speak.
Barbara snapped back to reality and screamed, "This is impossible!"
She then rushed to the counter, eyes wide open, and said, "How could he have two million dollars? The machine must be broken!"
Her face was contorted, and she was so agitated that the veins on the back of her hands stood out prominently. She stared at the cashier's counter with such intensity that it startled the employee.
Her reaction made many people feel disgusted with her, as she seemed overly frantic.
The cashier frowned and said, "Sorry, our machine is not broken. We did receive two million dollars. To be precise, it's one million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine dollars."
Barbara still didn't believe it. She leaned in and saw the amount on the display. Her expression became extremely complex in an instant.
She was utterly shocked, feeling a burning pain on her face as if James had slapped her hard. James could purchase a necklace worth two million dollars without hesitation, which meant he was far wealthier than her husband.
She even felt a familiar sense of powerlessness. Back in school, she was always overshadowed by Jennifer. After graduating, she thought she had married better than Jennifer did. But now reality dealt her a heavy blow, causing her to suffer the pain she had suffered before.
The previously shy salesperson's eyes were now shining, and she was so excited that her face turned red. She clenched her fists tightly. If it weren't for the crowd and her introverted nature, she would have screamed out loud.
She had been working for so long without closing a single deal and was on the verge of being fired. Just when she was about to lose hope, such a huge surprise came her way. This single deal would earn her tens of thousands of dollars in commission.
The other salespeople nearby were filled with regret. If they had known James was a really wealthy customer, they would never have ignored him and would have tried to please him.
But who would have thought that this deal would be closed by Patricia Brown, a girl from the countryside?
Especially the first salesperson that attended to James but then ignored him, her face was now twisted with anger, and she regretted it so much that she wanted to slap herself.
She quickly forced a smile, walked over to James, batted her eyelashes, and pushed her ample chest towards him, saying coquettishly, "Sir, you are so generous and handsome. I've never seen anyone as handsome as you. How about letting me handle this transaction? I can even treat you to dinner tonight, okay?"
She looked about twenty years old, fairly attractive, with a good figure and makeup that made her quite pretty. Any other man might have agreed to her invitation.
The shy salesperson Patricia saw this, and her excitement turned into disappointment. She had encountered this kind of situation more than once.
But James gave a contemptuous smile, dodged her approach unceremoniously, and said expressionlessly, "No, I don't have the habit of letting a snob handle my transactions. I only want this salesperson to handle it."
Instantly, an awkward look came over the snobbish salesperson's face. She wanted to say something but didn't dare to mock James anymore.
James smiled at Patricia and said, "You won't make money with such a timid personality. You need to be braver. Fight for what belongs to you, not just for yourself but for your family as well."
Upon hearing this, Patricia's eyes reddened. James's words struck a chord deep within her.
She was a girl from the countryside, and her introverted nature and ordinary looks had caused her countless grievances. She had been working for so long without making any money, which had always been a source of guilt for her. Now, James's words moved her deeply. She wiped her eyes and said softly, "Sir, thank you. Your words mean a lot to me. May I know your name?"
Her eyes were filled with sincerity. James didn't hide it and told her his name. She repeated it a few times to herself in order to commit it to memory.
After paying the bill, the manager, who had been resting inside, suddenly woke up. He hurried over, gave James a VIP card, and said that from now on, he could get at least a 20% discount whenever he bought jewelry there. He also carefully took out the "Heart of the Sea" from the glass display case, packaged it, and handed it to James.
James took it, turned to face Jennifer, who was beside him and extremely nervous, looked at her with deep affection, and smiled. "Honey, this is my gift to you. I hope you like it. Let me put it on for you."
Jennifer had never received such an expensive and beautiful gift. At this moment, it felt so unreal to her.
It was as if she were in a dream, a beautiful dream she had.
And although James was dressed plainly, at this moment, he was filled with infinite charm in her eyes, making her heart race.
Jennifer couldn't say a word; her mind was still in a daze. She obediently let James put the necklace on her.
She was already a stunning beauty and always the center of attention wherever she went. But with this necklace, her beauty was elevated even further. Words like elegant, graceful, and noble were perfectly described in her.
"So, do you like it?" James looked at Jennifer tenderly, gently holding her hand, his eyes filled with deep affection.
