Chapter 593 In-laws
James's return revitalized Jennifer completely, banishing her previous despondency and weariness. Her face has been adorned with an unbroken smile ever since.
In fact, from the moment she left James, she felt as if her soul had been drained. She constantly thought about James but restrained herself for the sake of his future.
Now that James was back, she felt alive again. This feeling of regaining what was lost was something she would never forget.
Having experienced the torment of longing that was worse than death, she knew that if given another choice, she could never leave James again. The agony was just too unbearable!
Upon hearing James's words, she began to cry once more, startling him. He hurriedly embraced her, saying, "Jennifer, why are you crying again? Haven't I already returned?"
Jennifer shook her head and smiled, "James, I'm just so happy. Let's never be apart again."
James stroked her hair and smiled, "We won't be apart again."
"Okay!" Jennifer nodded vigorously.
Next, James made a phone call, and soon someone came to handle the aftermath. He had regained his status as the heir to the family, along with his power, making it easy to deal with the current situation.
He took Jennifer out for dinner, and then they returned to their rental apartment, where they met Dennis and Kaitlyn. It was another reunion.
James could clearly feel that Dennis and Kaitlyn looked at him differently now, no longer casually but with awe and even fear. They obviously knew James's true identity.
When James poured coffee for them, they were both taken aback by the gesture and hurriedly expressed their gratitude.
This left James feeling helpless, so he explained, "Dennis, Kaitlyn, you don't need to be afraid of me. I will always be your son-in-law. I've already talked to my family, and we'll be taking Jennifer back to live with us. Dennis and Kaitlyn, why don't you come live in the City of Mysteries too? I bought a villa in the city center where you can garden."
"A villa in the city center?" Dennis and Kaitlyn's eyes widened in shock, clearly wondering how much it would cost.
James smiled, "Don't worry, it's not expensive, just two hundred million dollars."
After listening, they were left utterly speechless, staring at James in disbelief as if he had become somewhat of a stranger to them.
"That's too wasteful, too wasteful!" Kaitlyn quickly refused.
James had to look at Jennifer. Jennifer knew some things about the Smith family, and two hundred million dollars was indeed not much for James, but she was still shocked. After all, they were an ordinary family, and even two million dollars was a huge amount, let alone two hundred million.
"Dad, Mom, just listen to James. Two hundred million dollars really isn't much for him," Jennifer explained.
With Jennifer's persuasion, Dennis and Kaitlyn slowly accepted that James came from a wealthy family, but they still couldn't accept the two hundred million dollar villa. For them, living in such an expensive house would be unsettling and might even make them sick.
Seeing their reluctance, James felt helpless and didn't insist. After all, it was hard for them to accept such things all at once. It would take time.
The next day, James took Jennifer, Dennis, and Kaitlyn back to the Smith Manor. Despite being married for so long, their parents had never met, which was quite improper.
On the way, Dennis and Kaitlyn were quite nervous, and Jennifer was even more so. As a daughter-in-law meeting her in-laws for the first time, her palms were sweating.
James, on the other hand, was relaxed. He could finally bring Jennifer back openly.
When they arrived at the Smith Manor, Dennis and Kaitlyn were stunned by the grandeur of the estate. It occupied an entire mountain and looked like a palace.
Inside, they saw many limousines, which made them even more nervous.
James had informed Saxon and his mother Erin in advance that he would be bringing his wife and in-laws, so they were already waiting at the door. Upon seeing James and the others return, they immediately approached with enthusiasm and warmly said, "These must be the in-laws. Welcome."
Saxon warmly approached and shook Dennis's hand.
"Hello," Dennis said, feeling very restrained.
Many members of the Smith family were present, standing on both sides.
Overnight, after Alistair announced that James had regained his status as the heir, James's position in the family changed dramatically. Those who had distanced themselves from him now flocked to his side, eager to curry favor. They all knew that in terms of ability, James was far superior to Usher and Wylie.
Moreover, Alistair had agreed to let James bring Jennifer into the Smith family as his first wife, breaking a century-old family rule. This showed that Alistair had conceded to James!
This was incredible, as everyone knew how stubborn and tough Alistair was. He had never yielded before, but now he was actually making concessions for James. This further indicated that James was on the verge of surpassing Alistair and becoming the head of the family!
Perhaps it was likely to happen next month.
Given this, they had got to curry favor with James.
Only Usher and Wylie were absent, as they were busy plotting.
After some pleasantries, Saxon led Dennis and Kaitlyn inside, while Erin took Jennifer aside, asking about her well-being.
Erin immediately took a liking to Jennifer and was very pleased. She had long hoped that James would bring her a daughter-in-law, and now her wish had come true.
Inside the house, Alistair was making coffee.
Alistair and James exchanged a glance, understanding each other without words.
James introduced Alistair to Dennis and Kaitlyn, leaving them feeling flattered once again.
After the parents met and had a meal together, they got to know each other better, and James and Jennifer's relationship was solidified.
However, despite the apparent warmth, there was little they could talk about due to the vast difference in their social classes, leaving them with almost no common topics.
It was the first time the Smith family had encountered such ordinary individuals, and it was also Dennis and Kaitlyn's first time meeting such wealthy individuals.
So it was quite awkward.
Overall, the Smith family accepted Jennifer. In terms of conversation, appearance, and demeanor, she was a good match for James.
Meanwhile, Neil went to a mysterious place to meet a mysterious person.
