Chapter 342 Honey, You're Back
Walter was totally losing it just a minute ago. But the second he saw Emberlyn, he forgot all about it and started trying to please her.
Walter was usually this proud, icy dude who never sucked up to any chick. But with Emberlyn, he turned into a total puppy, doing anything to get on her good side. Kinda like how Emberlyn acted around James.
When Emberlyn spotted Walter, she immediately scowled, looking all annoyed and pissed. "Are you stalking me?" she snapped.
Walter quickly waved his hands, "No way. I just came here with a couple of buddies for some grub and bumped into you. Emberlyn, you didn’t believe in fate before, but look at this! Serenity Province is huge, but we still ran into each other. That’s gotta be fate."
Right then, Keith and Ivan showed up. They stood next to Walter, totally gobsmacked and hearts pounding when they saw Emberlyn.
And who could blame them? Emberlyn was drop-dead gorgeous, with perfect features and a killer body. She had this vibe that could make men blush but draw their attention anyway.
Having seen Emberlyn loads of times, Walter could manage to keep his cool. Also, he figured his status matched hers. In fact, he found his love for her growing strong every time he met her.
But Keith and Ivan? Different story. They’d never seen a woman this stunning, especially someone with Emberlyn’s status. They were all jittery and uneasy around her.
They couldn’t even look at her straight like Walter did, just sneaking peeks at her beauty.
Emberlyn’s words were harsh, totally clashing with her goddess-like image, but it didn’t come off as trashy. Instead, it made her seem real and straightforward, giving off a unique vibe. Even getting chewed out by her felt kinda nice.
"You’re obviously stalking me and calling it fate. Walter, the cheek of you," Emberlyn said with a sneer.
If anyone else had called him cheeky, Walter would’ve blown a fuse. But since it was Emberlyn, his goddess, he didn’t get mad at all. Instead, he was thrilled she was even talking to him.
"Seriously, I’m not! I swear! You can ask them. We had no clue you are here. This is fate," Walter said, trying to slide into the seat next to Emberlyn.
Seeing his proximity, Emberlyn immediately scowled and snapped, "What are you doing? Move. This seat’s taken."
Walter frowned a bit and asked, "By who?"
A sly look flashed in Emberlyn’s eyes as she blinked and said, "I already told you on the phone."
As she finished talking, her eyes drifted past Walter and locked onto James, who was strolling over. She flashed a sweet smile and said, "Honey, you're back."
With this "honey," Walter's face twisted in shock. Keith and Ivan were also floored, turning to see a guy with a face full of scars slowly making his way over.
James's scars had faded a lot, not as gnarly as when the bandages first came off. Now, he just looked like a dude with a pockmarked face. He looked more likely to be recovering from an illness than surviving a fire.
James had just hit the restroom and saw Walter and the gang when he got back. He quickly figured out who Walter was and instantly got why Emberlyn couldn't stand him.
Honestly, with where James was at now, he didn't want to deal with these clowns. It wasn't fear; it was just pointless.
First off, guys like Walter weren't even worth his time before. Second, he didn't want any drama. He was all about laying low now. If these people found out who he really was and Jennifer got wind of it, it would be a mess.
He turned to bail, but Emberlyn, who'd been with him for over a decade, caught on quick. Before he could split, she jumped up, grabbed his hand, and planted a kiss on his cheek. "Honey, you came back just in time. They are harassing me," she said.
James shot her a glare, trying to shake her off. But Emberlyn clung on tight, half her body glued to him. He had no choice, knowing if he didn't play along, she'd never let it go.
He sighed, regretting ever agreeing to dinner with her. Meanwhile, Walter was fuming, fists clenched, glaring at James like he wanted to tear him apart.
"Emberlyn, who the hell is he?" Walter spat out through gritted teeth.
Emberlyn yanked James over to sit with her, leaning her head on his shoulder, looking all sweet and happy. "Are you blind? Can't you see he's my boyfriend? After dinner, we're getting a room," she teased.
"What?" Walter's fists tightened, his anger radiating off him, catching the attention of everyone in the restaurant.
James was a bit taken aback, not expecting Walter to be this intense.
Sure, Walter was strong compared to regular folks. But to James, he was nothing. They weren't even in the same league.
"I’m warning you, back off from Emberlyn right now, or you’ll regret it!" Walter growled, staring daggers at James.
James smirked and said, "And what if I don't?"
