Chapter 362 Conflict in the Private Room
Kael's voice was loud enough for everyone at the table to catch. Dennis immediately scowled and snapped, "How's that fair? We snagged this private room first and already ordered our grub. Why should we hand it over to someone else?"
Dennis was clearly ticked off. He'd just been showing off to Leopold and the others about his big-shot status. Now Kael was coming over with this request, making him look like a fool. He was also pretty peeved at Kael. 'Dude's been around the block. How does he not get something this basic?' Dennis thought. Leopold and the others were frowning, too. Anyone would be miffed in this situation.
Kael tried to smooth things over, "Dennis, I get it, this sucks for you, but we don't have a choice. These guys are big shots, not the kind you wanna mess with. Plus, they usually dine in this room. You can eat in the main hall; it's no biggie. How about this, I'll give you a 40% discount. Next time you come, I'll make sure you get a private room. You won't lose out." He was trying to be patient and respectful.
Dennis's scowl deepened. He glanced at the rude thugs who'd plopped down across from them. They didn't even acknowledge them, just yapped loudly with their legs crossed, acting all high and mighty. It was clear they were some serious thugs, not the kind of people to be messed with.
Normally, Dennis would've caved. But with Leopold's family there, especially after all his bragging, backing down now would be super embarrassing.
"NO WAY!" Dennis barked, "How's that fair? I booked this room ahead of time. Why should I give it up? Let them eat in the main hall."
Kael frowned and said, "Dennis, that's not smart. These guys are tough. If you don't give up the room, you're asking for trouble."
Dennis wasn't having it. This was a five-star hotel, after all. He didn't think these guys would dare to force them. So he said straight up, "Kael, enough. I'm not some big shot, but I have my pride. Today, I'm not giving up this room. Tell them to leave us alone."
He didn't lower his voice, so the thugs across the room heard him. One of them, a scary-looking dude in his thirties with neck tattoos, slammed the table and pointed at Dennis, cursing, "What did you just say? I asked Kael to talk to you out of respect. Don't push it."
He was fierce, his expression menacing, scaring both Dennis and Kaitlyn. Dennis was pretty chicken. His tone wavered, but he still insisted, "I booked this room first. Why should I give it up to you?"
"Why? 'Cause my fists are bigger than yours," the guy was smug.
As he said that, his buddies stood up, too, giving Dennis the stink eye.
Seeing this, Kaitlyn got scared. She tugged on Dennis's sleeve and whispered, "Dennis, let it go. No need to get into it with them. We can eat outside."
Leopold, knowing these guys were bad news, chimed in, "Yeah, Dennis, it's no biggie. We can eat somewhere else."
Dennis was scared, sure, but his pride was on the line. Backing down now would make him look like a wimp in front of Leopold's family. He'd been on edge lately because of the whole James situation, so his temper flared. He slammed the table and stood up. "I said no, and I mean it. I know you're thugs, but I'm not scared of you," Dennis shot back.
After saying that, he felt like a hero, standing even taller. But Kael's eyes went wide, staring at him in shock. He quickly tried to pull Dennis back down, gritting his teeth and saying, "Dennis, what are you doing? Are you nuts? Do you know who these guys are? If you piss them off, you can kiss Lindwood City goodbye."
Dennis was taken aback by Kael's words. Kael's worried look made him a bit scared and regretful.
"Alright, you're tough, huh?" The guy laughed angrily, rolled up his sleeves, and shoved Dennis, making him stumble back and crash into the table behind him, wincing in pain.
This freaked everyone out. Kaitlyn rushed over to help Dennis, and Leopold shouted angrily, "Talk it out. Why shove him? Do you really think the law can't touch you?"
"The law? Oh, I'm shaking," the guy sneered. "I'm here to eat, not to fight. Get out in ten seconds, or don't expect to leave in one piece!"
His words were dripping with arrogance and menace.
Kael tried to say something to calm things down, but the guy's glare sent him back and killed his courage to side with Dennis.
"Dorian, didn't you say you know a lot of tough guys? Call them and get them over here," Dennis said, gritting his teeth through the pain.
Dorian looked embarrassed. He'd been bragging earlier. Sure, he was doing well now, but it was all thanks to Kieran. Kieran hadn't stopped him out of respect for James. But compared to these real tough guys, he was way out of their league.
Just then, the bathroom door in the private room opened. Jennifer walked out, surprised to see a few more people in the room. Her appearance caught the attention of the thugs, who all looked amazed.
Even though Jennifer was thin now, she was still stunning, instantly grabbing these guys' attention.
