Chapter 378 Still a Slap
In this sitch, despite all his years of martial arts training, he’d never come across anything like this. It was straight-up weird. He saw James' slap coming a mile away. His brain was screaming at him to dodge, but his body just wouldn’t listen, like he was possessed or something.
And man, that slap was brutal. It felt like it shattered his face, making tears stream down from the sheer pain.
"Kairo!"
"Kairo!"
The four Skylantis dudes freaked out and rushed over to help Kairo, the karate expert. Half of Kairo's face was puffed up, blood trickling from his mouth and eyes. He looked like a total wreck. They were all fuming.
But they were also super shocked. From their angle, James' slap didn’t seem that strong. It shouldn’t have messed Kairo up that bad. Plus, James wasn’t even that fast. With Kairo's reflexes, how did he not dodge it?
"Kairo, what the heck? Why didn’t you dodge?" one of the Skylantis guys snapped, frowning.
Kairo could barely get the words out, "I dunno, man. It was like I was frozen. Emrys, there's something off about him."
Another guy from the Skylantis, pissed off, huffed, "You must’ve been wiped out from that big fight earlier. That’s how he got the drop on you. Sunlandia people are such scumbags."
He shouted this, glaring daggers at James in the ring, basically calling him out.
James just laughed. It was funny how they were twisting the story.
Kairo jumped on the excuse, "Yeah, that’s it. I just had two big fights back-to-back and was running on empty. That sneaky Sunlandia dude got the jump on me. Damn it!"
They all started cursing James, calling him a dirty fighter who only knew how to pull sneak attacks.
Their words fired up everyone around, who started arguing, too.
After what just went down, folks who didn’t think much of James before started to have some hope. But, there were still plenty who sided with the Skylantis crew, thinking James had pulled a cheap shot.
Listening to all the bickering, James got super annoyed and snapped, "Quit arguing. Come at me all at once. I’ll knock you all out in under a minute."
He said it with pure disdain. The Skylantis guys lost it and started cursing even more.
Even the martial artist among the five from the Skylantis who’d been quiet was now fuming, his eyes burning with rage as he glared at James, trying to intimidate him with his aura.
But to James, that aura was a joke, like a kid threatening him with a water gun.
Walter felt the martial artist's aura and jumped up from his seat, his face going pale as he shouted, "Oh crap! One of them’s a martial artist. That’s why they had the guts to come here. James is in real trouble now."
The folks around didn’t get what the big deal was about a martial artist. To them, anyone who did martial arts was a martial artist.
Only Emberlyn kept her cool. She knew what James was packing and figured even a martial artist would get his butt handed to him by James. So, she wasn’t sweating it. In fact, she was pumped. If James could take down this martial artist and freak out Walter, maybe Walter would finally back off and stop bugging her.
Thinking about it, she yelled, "Go James. Show these cocky Skylantis jerks what Sunlandia’s all about!"
A lot of people thought she was being naive, maybe even a bit dumb. Could James really take on four pros?
"Such arrogance!" A tall Skylantis dude, about six feet, stepped up, bowed to the martial artist, and said, "Let me handle this. I’ll teach this arrogant Sunlandia guy a lesson."
The martial artist nodded, "Emrys, don’t let me down."
Emrys said seriously, "Don’t worry. I won’t."
With that, Emrys walked towards the ring. His heavy steps screamed power.
His eyes, filled with rage and killer intent, made anyone who looked at him feel a chill and look away. His aura was even stronger than Kairo’s.
The coaches in the crowd sensed Emrys' strength, their faces turning serious. They all thought James didn’t stand a chance against Emrys and was in for a world of hurt.
In terms of aura, James was way behind Emrys, like comparing a grade schooler to a college kid. Almost no one thought James had a shot.
But James, seeing only one guy step up, shook his head and said, "Why don’t you all come at me at once? Doing this one by one is just wasting my time."
He said it loud enough for everyone to hear. His tone and expression made it seem like he wasn’t just bragging but was genuinely annoyed, which weirdly made people trust him more.
Aside from Emberlyn, no one believed James could beat the guy, let alone take on four at once.
Emrys got even angrier, clenched his fists, took a karate stance, and kicked off his shoes. Even through his socks, you could feel the power in his toes, like he was glued to the ring, rock solid.
He charged at James like a tiger on the prowl.
Even the crowd could feel his unstoppable ferocity.
Everyone held their breath. Some even covered their eyes, or averted their face.
Then, as Emrys lunged at James, James struck, just like before, with a slap to Emrys' face. The hit was so hard it sent Emrys flying, rolling twice, and landing off the ring.
