Chapter 92 Stanley's Fear
Jennifer was stunned, then immediately panicked. She quickly grabbed James and said, "James, are you out of your mind? I asked you to call Michael, not to foolishly come out and offend them!"
Others also looked at James in surprise, thinking he must be an idiot. In this situation, daring to show off, he must really be an idiot, right?
Curtis, on the other hand, was delighted. His despair turned into excitement instantly. He thought James was a fool for daring to confront thugs at this very moment. He enjoyed seeing James provoke Stanley and the others.
Stanley frowned as he looked at James. He didn't immediately recognize him but felt he looked familiar. James's expression puzzled him as he tried to recall where he had seen him before.
James turned to Jennifer and said, "Don't worry, I don't need to call Michael to resolve this."
But Jennifer didn't believe him. She stomped her foot, even angrier, and stared at James, "How will you handle this? These people are mafia, ruthless. We shouldn't mess with them. Come back!" she demanded.
Saying this, Jennifer pulled James, afraid he would cause trouble for her.
James felt touched by Jennifer's concern for him. He gently and firmly held her hand, saying, "Darling, trust me. Tonight, in front of all your classmates, I'll make you proud of me."
Jennifer was momentarily stunned, looking at James's determined expression, feeling a mix of emotions she had never experienced before, she nodded involuntarily.
James let go of Jennifer's hands and, under everyone's gaze, walked towards Stanley.
"This James must be crazy. Didn't he see what happened to Curtis earlier?" someone remarked in disbelief.
"I don't think he's crazy, just foolish. He's willing to risk everything just to show off. I actually feel sorry for Jennifer, a beauty from our school, marrying such a fool," somebody jeered.
"Let's see how he ends up being humiliated..." another added with anticipation.
The crowd mocked James, eagerly anticipating his downfall.
Stanley glared at James, and impatiently asked, "Where did you come from? Are you insane?"
Last time at Elena Martin's place, James dressed plainly and had an ordinary demeanor, unlike now in his suit, looking much more handsome. Stanley still didn't recognize him, yet somehow felt he was familiar.
James said, "I'm their friend. Let bygones be bygones..."
Before he could finish, Curtis loudly interjected, "Stanley, don't listen to his nonsense. I don't know him at all! Whatever he does, it's none of my business!"
Following his lead, others quickly distanced themselves from James, fearing being associated with him and showing extreme coldness.
Seeing this, James regretted coming out to help them.
At that moment, Frederick, with a bruised face, walked over and stood beside James, expressing gratitude with a smile.
He then said to Stanley, "He's my friend. This has nothing to do with him. You thought I wouldn't dare to call the police because I was drunk driving, but I'm going to do it. Even if it means I am going to jail!"
He knew how much he had drunk, and if tested by the police, it would be considered drunk driving.
James was taken aback and stopped Frederick from making the call, saying, "No need to call the police. I can handle it."
"James, you..." Frederick couldn't understand what James was thinking.
Stanley smirked and snapped his fingers, and a few burly men surrounded James. "Alright, let's see how you handle this," he arrogantly said.
James shook his head, his tone gradually turning cold as he spoke, " Stanley, you disappointed me. I thought after the last incident, you would have learned a lesson and not be so arrogant. It seems you haven't taken my words to heart."
"I'm angry," James spat.
His expression turned icy as he raised his right hand, showing fists.
Seeing this, Stanley shuddered all over. His menacing expression turned to fear in an instant. The cigar in his mouth fell into his clothes, burning him and making him dance in pain.
The burly men surrounding him also turned pale, legs trembling, quickly stepping back, keeping their distance from James.
They all remembered.
This guy was the devil who had tortured Stanley at Ernest Brown's ex-wife's house that day!
How could he be here?
Seeing James's cold demeanor, they all feared him with terrified faces.
Especially Stanley, who felt it the most. That day, James had tortured him the worst, giving him the most painful experience of his life. It took him a week to recover from the beating. Now, seeing James, he felt a wave of fear burst out from his soul; even his body inexplicably ached.
"Y-y-you?!" Stanley's teeth were chattering, and his speech slurred. His former arrogance totally disappeared.
James had cast a shadow so deep that Stanley had never been so afraid of anyone in his life. Despite his tough demeanor, he couldn't muster any resistance in front of James.
Despite his arrogance and domineering demeanor, he was far from being unintelligent. In fact, he possessed a keen ability to read people. He quickly discerned that individuals like James were not to be underestimated.
What truly put him on edge was James's understated nature, despite his evident capabilities, a subtle yet potent indicator of his heightened threat level.
Curtis, witnessing this scene, was dumbfounded, staring in disbelief, his face full of doubt.
What was happening? Did he misread the situation?
Shouldn't James be the one at Stanley's mercy? Why was it now Stanley who feared James?
Not just him, everyone was in a state of shock, completely dumbfounded, mouths agape.
Jennifer also felt incredulous. She rubbed her eyes, opened them again, and realized it was not a dream. A complex mix of emotions filled her heart.
So, James hadn't lied to her.
Thinking back to what James had said to her earlier, she suddenly felt an urge to cry.
