Chapter 40 Dr. Johnson's Husband
At this moment, Stanley was crying uncontrollably, his nose running, tears streaming down his face, and even his urine had been triggered by James' final strike. He was in a sorry state.
Ernest, who had just regained consciousness, was utterly bewildered. He kept gasping for breath, regretting deeply.
He thought to himself, 'This guy is ruthless! Why did I have to provoke him in the first place?'
Seeing that Stanley was truly terrified, James decided not to continue tormenting him. He turned to the remaining four individuals. He asked each of them, "What about you?"
Under James' gaze, they trembled and quickly shook their heads and answered, "We dare not, we dare not."
"Then get lost," James said.
They seized Stanley, who was now incapacitated, and ran off as if the floor was on fire, their movements frantic.
He announced, "Elena, it's all right now." James clapped his hands, turning around to see Elena rushing towards him, her face full of excitement. Before he could react, she hugged him tightly.
Suddenly, James's muscles were as tight as a drum!
A phrase popped into his head, 'Came in like a wrecking ball.'
Elena, with her knockout figure; long legs, a tiny waist, a curvy backside, and a chest that could stop traffic. It was just like what the internet folks call a weapon of mass distraction.
Held in her embrace, James felt a surge of hormones coursing through his body.
"James, thank you so much! If you hadn't saved me, I... I don't know how they would have humiliated me..." Elena clung to James, her voice trembling with a hint of tears, her body still shaking from the lingering fear.
This left James feeling awkward, unsure where to place his hands.
As a young man full of vigor, being embraced by a stunning woman like Elena definitely stirred something within him. He wasn't a saint.
He leaned back, trying to maintain distance from Elena, awkwardly saying, "Elena, um, could you please let go?"
Only then did Elena realize her actions. With a gasp, she quickly released James. Her pale face flushed visibly, turning red quickly.
"James, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." Elena said sheepishly, lowering her head.
Just then, she noticed something unusual in James' trousers, causing her face to redden further and her body to grow weak inexplicably.
James blushed deeply. Although he had been married for five years, strictly speaking, he was still a virgin and felt shy about such matters.
He quickly turned around, taking deep breaths, and said, "Elena, since everything is fine, I'll head back now."
"Um..." Elena was flustered, avoiding eye contact, her voice barely audible.
Opening the door, James stepped halfway out, then seemed to remember something.
He turned back and said seriously, "Elena, I think these people are not so simple. It's best for you to keep a low profile for a while."
Elena looked up at James's serious expression and nodded.
As James left, Elena's body slumped, and she murmured to herself in embarrassment, "Elena, what are you doing? He's married! You hugged him like that, do you have no shame? Where is your sense of decency?"
Taking a deep breath, her gaze became dreamy. She mumbled to herself, "But the way James dealt with those people just now was so cool; my body almost went weak."
"If only James weren't married, that would be so great..." she remarked with a hint of disappointment.
Meanwhile, as James left Elena's place and hurried back home, his heart was still racing.
Thankful for his quick escape, he pondered what might have happened if he had stayed longer.
That woman, Elena, was too tempting.
He took a cold shower to cool down his heated body.
Back in his room, gazing at the wedding photo on the wall, James paused for a few seconds, then sighed and lay down on the floor to sleep.
The next day, during lunch, James received a call from Jennifer, informing him that she had returned. She asked him to drive to the airport to deliver some documents and pick her up.
James hurriedly finished his meal and rushed over.
Upon reaching the garage, James realized that Dennis had taken the car keys, leaving him unable to drive. It was peak hour, making it difficult to hail a cab. With no other option, James resorted to riding a motorcycle.
Just as it started drizzling, James, without a raincoat, arrived at the airport drenched. Coupled with his cheap clothes, he looked utterly forlorn.
Walking into the airport, he immediately attracted curious and disdainful looks from onlookers, most of whom mocked him.
Even the security guard stopped him, and only after James explained that he was there to pick someone up was he allowed to enter.
Wiping the rainwater off his face, James took out the documents, grateful that he had sealed them in a plastic bag before leaving to prevent them from getting wet.
Jennifer called and asked, "Hey, have you arrived?"
James received Jennifer's location and replied, "Yes, I'm at Zone D. Where are you? I'll come to find you."
"Okay, I'm at Zone H. Come over," Jennifer responded.
After hanging up the phone, Jennifer regained her smile and engaged in conversation with a group of people nearby.
Somebody praised, "Dr. Johnson, your medical skills are truly remarkable. Your speech at the conference yesterday was very inspiring to me!"
Another added, "Yes, Dr. Johnson, you are amazing. You are the pride of our generation. I believe that in due time, you will become a renowned doctor worldwide."
These people were doctors from other hospitals in the city who had attended the conference with Lindwood City Hospital. They held Jennifer in high regard.
A female doctor asked, "Dr. Johnson, was that your boyfriend on the phone just now?"
Upon hearing this, several male doctors accompanying her looked nervous yet hopeful.
After just three days of interaction, they had already been captivated by Jennifer—her beauty, slender figure, elegant demeanor, and exceptional medical skills were all deeply appealing.
With a faint smile, Jennifer replied, "He's not my boyfriend."
The male doctors breathed a sigh of relief, glad they still had a chance. But then Jennifer continued, "He's my husband."
Their expressions instantly froze, and some even exclaimed in disbelief, "What? Dr. Johnson, you're married!"
One of the male doctors exaggerated, "My goodness, I can hear my own heart breaking."
Someone declared, "Which man has stolen my Dr. Johnson? I challenge him to a duel! Not even Jesus can stop me..."
These male doctors wailed, only to be reprimanded by the female doctor. She said, "Enough! To marry someone as exceptional as Dr. Johnson, he must be an extraordinary man, an elite of society. You guys better get some rest."
"Exactly. Any man favored by Dr. Johnson must be a hero among men!" one of the male doctors said.
"I really want to meet Dr. Johnson's husband; he must be a handsome man. Hehe," a female doctor said.
