Chapter 540 Didn't Sleep Well Last Night
Coincidentally, James was in a relaxed mood tonight and went to bed early, so he didn't notice anything unusual about Jennifer. Otherwise, he would have definitely sensed Jennifer's sobs.
After sleeping soundly through the night, James awoke to find an extra blanket draped over him, carrying Jennifer's distinctive fragrance. However, Jennifer was no longer in bed.
This warm feeling made James feel very comfortable. He and Jennifer finally felt like a normal couple.
No matter what, he decided to protect Jennifer and ensure that neither Jennifer nor Dennis and Kaitlyn at home would get hurt!
When he came out to the living room, he found that Jennifer wasn't there, either. He heard Dennis and Kaitlyn say that Jennifer had gotten up very early today and had gone to the clinic half an hour ago.
James checked the time; it was only seven o'clock. In the past, Jennifer would just be getting up at this time.
Instinctively, James felt something was off with Jennifer, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was. After quickly finishing his breakfast, he headed out.
After he left, Kaitlyn asked, "Dennis, do you think Jennifer and James had a quarrel yesterday?"
Dennis, looking at the newspaper, replied, "Why do you say that?"
"Didn't you see Jennifer's red eyes this morning? She obviously cried." Kaitlyn said.
Dennis put down the newspaper and said, "Impossible, Jennifer and James have a great relationship. Why would they fight?"
"Who knows? We've been through this. What couple doesn't fight? We used to fight a lot when we were younger." Kaitlyn added, a hint of unease spreading through her heart.
"That's true." Dennis nodded. Seeing the worry on Kaitlyn's face, he continued, "Even if they did quarrel, it's no big deal. Like you said, no couple doesn't fight, right? They might make up by tonight. Let's not meddle."
Kaitlyn nodded, "Dennis, I feel like Jennifer has something on her mind. It might not be just a simple fight."
Dennis, not as perceptive as Kaitlyn, didn't take it to heart. He said it was nothing and continued reading.
On James's side, when he arrived at the clinic, he saw that Jennifer was indeed already at work. Unusually, Jennifer had makeup on today, with a light foundation. Although it was subtle, it was still noticeable. This puzzled James because Jennifer was naturally beautiful with fair, smooth skin and rarely wore makeup.
"Jennifer, why did you come to the clinic by yourself today?" James walked over and asked.
Jennifer's eyes flickered when she saw him. If James had been looking at her, he would have noticed her unusual behavior, but he was busy organizing things and didn't see it.
"I woke up early today. Seeing you still asleep, I came by myself," Jennifer said with a smile. Her eyes were still a bit red, and she had dark circles from not sleeping well last night, covered by foundation. If not looked at closely, the dark circles wouldn't be noticeable.
But James noticed immediately Jennifer's unnatural response and frowned, "Jennifer, didn't you sleep well last night?"
Jennifer looked a bit flustered, lowered her head, and softly said, "I drank some coffee before bed last night and fell asleep very late."
James knew that coffee made Jennifer more alert, so he didn't think much of it.
Since no employees or patients had arrived yet, James walked behind Jennifer, placed his hands on her shoulders, and gently pressed her into a chair, saying softly, "Take it easy, I'll give you a massage to help you relax."
Jennifer's body trembled slightly at James's touch, her muscles tensing up. James smiled, "Don't be nervous. I'll be gentle. Just relax."
With James's words, Jennifer bit her lip lightly and took a deep breath. At this moment, she couldn't let James notice anything amiss.
Jennifer persuaded herself to gradually relax, closed her eyes, and endeavored not to think about the future.
After all, she had given herself some time and needed to make the most of it.
Once James felt her body relax, he began to massage her gently.
His technique was excellent, better than the world's most famous masseurs, because he knew the human body's structure and pressure points better than anyone. Combined with his internal energy, he gently infused it into Jennifer's body, making her feel completely relaxed and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Her physical fatigue and mental stress significantly diminished.
She was truly exhausted, having not slept well the entire night, her nerves tightly wound. Now, in this extremely relaxed state, she quickly fell asleep.
She even started to snore lightly, sleeping soundly.
With Jennifer's snores, James felt puzzled. Jennifer wasn't someone who easily suffered from insomnia. This clearly indicated she hadn't slept well last night and was now physically exhausted, causing her to snore.
In this situation, his thoughts naturally turned to Lisa, wondering if she had already spoken to Jennifer.
He continued massaging for another ten minutes, letting Jennifer sleep more deeply. Then he cradled her to the office sofa and covered her with a blanket.
Throughout, his movements were gentle, and Jennifer didn't wake up.
Jennifer slept from morning until noon. When she woke up, she was startled to find herself asleep.
Then she realized she was in the office, covered with a blanket, and understood that James had cradled her in.
It was all because James's massage was so relaxing and comfortable that she had fallen asleep.
Jennifer glanced at the time and was surprised to find that it was already half-past eleven.
James's tenderness filled her heart with warmth, causing her lips to curve into a natural smile.
But then, an exquisite face appeared in her mind—Lisa, and the words Lisa had said to her, that James had given up everything for her.
The more she thought about it, the more her heart felt heavy. She sighed deeply, composed herself, and walked out of the office. She quickly saw James in his doctor's coat, taking her place and treating patients.
Seeing this scene, her heart felt like it was being pierced by a needle. Such a scene would never be seen again.
James turned around and gave Jennifer a bright smile, asking, "How you feeling?."
"Much better," Jennifer nodded, then walked over skillfully, ready to take over James's work. At this moment, James held her hand and said, "I'll handle the patients today. You take a day off and rest well."
Jennifer paused, then turned around and nodded gently.
