Chapter 377 A Slap Knocks Down the Ring
With that voice, everyone whipped their heads towards the ring, totally scandalised. When the heck did he get up there? Wasn't he just chillin' in the crowd a second ago?
Definitely, now standing on the ring in front of the karate expert was James?
Nobody had a clue how he pulled it off. One moment, he was in the thick of the crowd, and the next, he's up in the ring. It was like some kind of magic trick.
Everyone thought they were seeing things, couldn't fathom what just happened. How did James just pop up there in a second?
But Emberlyn was losing her mind, face all flushed, cheering like crazy from below the stage, "James! You're the man! Finally, you're gonna show 'em. Kick that Skylantis dude's butt and show 'em what you got!"
Seeing Emberlyn all hyped up, people started to wonder, 'Is James really some kind of master? But he just got his butt handed to him by Walter. How does someone go from zero to hero in minutes?'
Walter frowned, eyeing James standing there all calm and collected, hands behind his back. The way James looked at the karate expert, like he was just a kid, gave Walter a bad feeling.
'Could James really be a master? Did he throw the fight on purpose earlier?' Walter was puzzled.
He remembered that day when James casually lifted a hundred-pound barrel of wine with one hand while treating Derek. With that kind of strength, maybe James was the real deal.
Moreover, James had been in the crowd a second ago, right in front of him, and then in a blink, he was on the ring. Even Walter didn't catch how he did it.
Up in the ring, the karate expert was stunned, too. He had just turned to leave when he could feel something landed on the ring.
He wheeled around, saw James, and immediately looked disappointed and annoyed. In a split second, he decided James was just some regular dude, maybe in good shape, but definitely not a master.
"Are you challenging me?" The karate expert stared at James like he was nuts.
To him, James was basically asking for a beatdown.
But James just shook his head, "Nah, you're overthinking it. A small fry like you isn't worth my time. Get your best guy out here. Heck, bring 'em all. I'll take you all on at once and save some time."
James grinned after saying that.
He meant it. He really didn't want to waste time. For him, fighting one guy or five was all the same.
Out of the hundreds of people there, only Emberlyn knew he was dead serious.
Emberlyn clasped her face with both hands, looking all starstruck, legs squeezed together, face red, like a fangirl seeing her idol, muttering, "Wow! James is so awesome. I think my heart's gonna explode."
Except for Emberlyn, everyone else was floored, thinking James must be out of his mind. 'Is he nuts? Taking on five guys by himself? This isn't just crazy; it's a death wish.'
A bunch of folks slapped their foreheads, groaning, "We're screwed. James is a lunatic, and now we're gonna be the laughingstock forever."
"Seriously, we're done. Doesn't Sunlandia have any real fighters? This is pathetic, getting pushed around by a few Skylantis guys and doing nothing about it. It's so frustrating!"
"I can't take it anymore. If I knew it would be like this, I wouldn't have signed up!"
Up in the ring, the karate expert heard James's words, was a bit stunned, and then burst out laughing like he just heard the funniest joke ever.
He rattled off some Skylantis gibberish, then said to James, "This is hilarious! You Sunlandia folks are really something. A loser like you wants to take us all on?"
He laughed so hard he could barely stand up straight.
The other four Skylantis guys below the stage were cracking up too, looking at James like he was a total idiot.
Even the only martial artist among them, who seriously checked out James but couldn't figure out his true strength, thought James was just some nobody with a screw loose.
James was good at hiding his strength because he was way past that stage. Now he just wanted to keep a low profile. Being too flashy before had brought him a ton of trouble and was a real pain.
Now he just wanted to be a nobody. Fame and fortune were not his thing.
James shook his head and sighed, "Looks like you're dead set on getting yourself killed."
After saying that, he didn't bother chatting anymore and went straight for the attack.
James couldn't go all out right away. For him, it was like an adult fighting a kid with a toy gun. He walked towards the karate expert, taking his sweet time.
Soon enough, he was right in front of the karate expert.
The karate expert was still grinning, arms crossed, waiting for James to make a move, oblivious to the threatening danger.
At that moment, James swung his arm back to slap the karate expert. His motion wasn't fast, way slower than Walter's speed from earlier.
But the karate expert didn't dodge. Instead, he stood there to take the slap, planning to grab James's arm, knock him to the ground, and kick him off the ring.
Everyone was baffled.
They never saw that coming. They even wondered if this guy was hired by James.
Only the karate expert knew that the moment James moved, he saw the terror in James's eyes, and his mind went blank. It was like his body was paralyzed, watching helplessly as James's slap landed on his face.
