Chapter 32 Actually, I Can Cheat at Cards
Arriving at Little Las Vegas, James found it quite large with many people. In addition to guests, there were also quite a few provocatively dressed Playboy bunnies. Upon entering, various sounds of excitement and lament could be heard.
"How do you like this place?" Carlos asked as he draped his arm around James's shoulder, winking suggestively.
James asked, "Carlos, how many times have you been here?"
Carlos's eyes gleamed with excitement as he replied, "Today marks the third time."
"You've won money the previous two times, right?" asked James.
"Of course! With the Gambling God around, it's hard to lose." Carlos confidently declared.
Curious, James asked, "It seems you have a lot of confidence in him. Who exactly is this Gambling God?"
Carlos was startled and said, "His name is Rodney!"
"I think you should be cautious with this Gambling God. I have a feeling he might lose today," James kindly advised.
Unfortunately, Carlos didn't take it seriously. He replied, "No way! The Gambling God is truly amazing. You haven't followed him before, so you haven't seen his skills. Otherwise, you wouldn't think that way."
Then, looking around mysteriously, Carlos whispered, "James, I'll tell you a secret. Don't tell anyone. The Gambling God actually has supernatural abilities!"
James was speechless.
Chuckling, James patted Carlos's forehead and asked, "Carlos, have you watched too many movies? Supernatural abilities?"
Carlos swatted James's hand away and said, "Damn, I'm serious! Rodney really has supernatural abilities. I saw him change cards with my own eyes. Just like in the movies, with a swift motion, the cards changed.
"A two of diamonds turned into an ace of spades. It was amazing! In just one game, he won ten thousand dollars. Impressive, right?"
James couldn't help but laugh. He revealed, "Carlos, that's called cheating. It's just quick hands, not supernatural abilities."
Annoyed, Carlos glared and said, "Quick hands? It's that simple? Why don't you say you can cheat at cards, too?"
"Well, I actually can cheat at cards," James said and chuckled. With his skills, cheating at cards was child's play; his expertise far surpassed that of the so-called Gambling God.
At that moment, someone nearby overheard and burst into laughter.
"What? You can cheat at cards, too? Haha, that's hilarious. You're blowing it out of proportion. Why not claim you're Gambling God, too?" someone sneered.
"What? Is he claiming he can also swap cards? Is this dude for real?" another person chimed in.
The group of people with James started mocking him, treating him like a fool.
Rodney removed his sunglasses and gave James a disdainful glance, then said to Carlos, "You found a driver for me; why did you bring a moron? What's the meaning of this? Don't you want to win money?"
Carlos paled, quickly nodding and apologizing, "I'm sorry! Please don't take offense, Gambling God. My friend here is a bit abnormal in the head. I didn't mean to offend you. I hope you won't take it to heart."
Rodney shot Carlos a displeased look, his icy stare sliding over James' mug before he let out a huff.
Carlos forced a smile, being extremely obsequious. It wasn't until Rodney turned away that he relaxed a bit, breathed a sigh of relief, then punched James lightly, scolding, "Damn, you almost got me in trouble. Why didn't you say you could fly to the heavens?"
Thinking James was upset, Carlos explained in a hushed tone, "Bro, money is hard to come by these days. Rodney may have a bad temper, but he's truly skilled. I've paid a hefty price to get in with him. Tonight, if we follow his bets, we're bound to win big.
"I know you've been having a tough time at the Johnson Family. With money, your wife won't dare to look down on you anymore, right?"
Seeing Carlos's sincere eyes, James felt touched. He knew Carlos had brought him here for his own good. Therefore, he silently decided that he wouldn't let Carlos suffer any losses following Rodney tonight.
"Yeah, I understand," James replied.
"That's good," Carlos said.
"Carlos," James suddenly called Carlos’ name.
"Yeah?" Carlos answered.
"I really can cheat at cards," James said.
"Get out of here!" Carlos yelled.
At that moment, Rodney had started placing bets at the dice game.
It had to be said that Rodney was quite skilled. He had trained his hearing to discern the dice numbers, and he won several rounds, earning tens of thousands. Carlos followed suit and won a substantial amount.
"How about that? I didn't deceive you, did I? The Gambling God is truly amazing," Carlos praised, admiringly looking at the chips in his hand.
James smiled but remained silent.
Rodney gave him a disdainful glance as if looking at a mere ant.
To showcase his superior gambling skills, Rodney didn't just stick to dice games. He tried out various games, winning almost every time.
In less than an hour, he had already won tens of thousands, and Carlos had won nearly thirty thousand, his face flushed with excitement.
Others also joined in the winning streak, becoming even more adulatory towards Rodney.
"Hey, James, how much have you won?" Carlos asked, approaching with a bag of chips in hand.
"I didn't gamble," James replied.
"Damn! You didn't gamble?" Carlos widened his eyes. "Why are you so foolish? Didn't I ask you to follow the Gambling God's bets? Look at them; each of them has won tens of thousands! You've missed out on a big loss."
"I didn't bring any money," James casually explained.
Carlos immediately handed him a few chips, totaling a few thousand dollars. "Damn, why didn't you say earlier? Quickly follow Rodney's bets. I think the Gambling God is about to leave," he urged.
Shaking his head, James said, "Forget it; I'm not into gambling."
Meanwhile, in a secluded room, there were a dozen or so monitors, two of which displayed Rodney.
Someone reported, "Boss, that guy has come again. His group has already won nearly four million dollars."
The boss replied, "You mean that self-proclaimed Gambling God fool?"
The other person confirmed, "Yes. This group has been here twice before, winning nearly ten million in total. This guy has some skills; he seems to know how to cheat at cards."
The boss ordered,"Really? That's good, huh? No wonder they call him the Gambling God. Well, that's just about enough, time to reel 'em in. Thinks he can come into my place and cause chaos, doesn't know the meaning of danger!
"Go, send someone to give him a warm welcome. Calls himself the Gambling God, does he? I'm gonna make him cough up every penny he's won, plus interest."
Over at Rodney's table, he'd made a round and ended up back at the Big or Small betting. After the dealer's dice roll, he confidently slapped three hundred grand on "Big."
The rest of the crowd hurriedly followed suit, betting on "Big." Carlos was about to lay down fifty grand to follow the trend when James grabbed hold of him, murmuring, "Carlos, don't go big this time; bet on 'Small.'"
