Chapter 119: James is No Less Than Eugene

James was startled. ‘Could my identity really have been exposed? But it doesn't make sense; I have hidden it so well.’
Soon, he saw the uncertainty in Jennifer's eyes and realized that she was merely surprised by his treatment.
Indeed, for the past five years, he had always appeared very useless. Now, in just two short months, he seemed like a different person. It was normal for Jennifer to be suspicious.
"That's right, I'm not James," James said in a deep voice.
Jennifer's expression changed dramatically upon hearing this. "You aren't James? Who are you?"
"That's a good question," James said with a peculiar expression. "Actually, I'm a great demon king from another world. I roamed the universe but was ambushed by an enemy and ended up on Earth, becoming James. I never thought this secret would be discovered by you today. Now, I have no choice but to kill you."
James had been bored for a while and had read quite a few online novels that followed this kind of genre.
Hearing this, Jennifer couldn't help but smile. She glared at James and said, "Where did you learn your medical skills? Why didn't I know about it?"
Seeing Jennifer change the subject, James felt a sense of relief. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Actually, I've been meaning to tell you. Three years ago, I had a serious illness and happened to meet a highly skilled doctor. He cured my illness and taught me some acupuncture techniques. He also gave me some books. I read them when I had nothing else to do, so I learned how to treat illnesses."
James had indeed suffered a serious illness three years ago, and Jennifer remembered this. "Really?"
She still maintained a skeptical attitude, finding it a bit unbelievable.
"Of course, it's true," James said earnestly, making a convincing expression.
Jennifer frowned and said, "Then why didn't you tell me?"
James smiled wryly. "At that time, you looked down on me so much. Even if I told you, you wouldn't have believed me."
Hearing this, a flash of guilt appeared on Jennifer's face. Indeed, that was when she was most disappointed and disgusted with James. There were times when she wouldn't say a single word to him for an entire month, and just seeing him annoyed her.
Biting her lip, she softly said, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." James waved his hand.
"Are you okay now? You looked so weak earlier; it was really scary," Jennifer said with some concern.
James smiled. "After resting for a while, I feel much better."
Jennifer nodded and then curiously asked, "By the way, what method did you use just now to cure Mr. Edwards? Is acupuncture really that miraculous? How come I never knew about it?"
Indeed, what had happened in the operating room earlier was a whole new revelation for her. She had never thought that acupuncture could be so effective. In her usual understanding, acupuncture was more for wellness rather than treatment, especially for severe illnesses like Brandon's, which affected the immune system.
James explained, "Acupuncture is indeed that miraculous. Besides its general wellness benefits, it can also treat serious illnesses. Some diseases that even surgery can't solve can be treated with acupuncture."
Jennifer was amazed. She hadn't expected acupuncture to be so powerful.
It was almost lunchtime, and they began to feel hungry.
James set off to the cafeteria with Jennifer to eat.
As soon as they arrived at the cafeteria, they heard many people talking about that surgery.
"Hey, do you remember that patient named Brandon who came to our hospital a while ago?"
"Of course, who doesn't know about him? I heard he's a big shot from Emerald Isle City, someone really important."
"Yeah, I don't get it. Why would someone like him come here for treatment? There must be hundreds of hospitals in the country better than ours."
"I heard he had some kind of strange disease no one had seen before, where his skin turned into tree bark. It's so scary."
"That must be a terminal illness..."
Jennifer and James heard these discussions and were very excited, especially Jennifer, who felt a sense of pride.
A few more people were drawn in and joined the conversation.
"Hey, you guys probably don't know this, but this morning, Mr. Edwards had surgery. The lead surgeon was none other than our hospital's Dr. Baker. And he cured Mr. Edwards."
"Is Dr. Baker really that good? Just a few days ago, I heard many department heads saying that Mr. Edwards' illness was terminal and couldn't be cured with current medical technology."
"Dr. Baker is a PhD graduate from Simbara University; he has the highest level of medical knowledge in today's society. Just because our department heads couldn't cure it doesn't mean he couldn't. The fact is, Dr. Baker did cure Mr. Edwards with just one surgery. It's incredible!"
"Really? That's amazing!"
Hearing this, Jennifer frowned and couldn't help but say, "You must be mistaken. It wasn't Dr. Baker who cured Mr. Edwards; it was someone else."
"Actually, it was Dr. Johnson," someone said teasingly.
"Okay, we will admit that you cured the patient," one added.
They began to make fun of Jennifer.
The nurse who had spread the news said seriously, "Dr. Johnson, we didn't get it wrong. The director even announced it over the PA system. It was Dr. Baker who cured Mr. Edwards. And as far as I know, Dr. Johnson, you were his assistant, right? Shouldn't you be the one who knows best?"
