Chapter 637 Persuading Bronte to Surrender

Scorpio's poison was no joke—even James knew better than to mess with it. Spotting the cloud of toxic powder, James didn't take any chances. He channeled his energy to blow it away, then followed up with a brutal punch aimed straight at Scorpio.

"You brat, you're looking for death!"

Scorpio sneered, a dagger already in his hand, slashing straight at James' throat. If James didn't retreat, he would definitely be stabbed, and the dagger was glowing blue, clearly also poisoned.

Seeing James retreat, Scorpio was overjoyed because as long as James didn't stop him, he could leave. But at that moment, Scorpio's body suddenly froze, and his eyes widened.

James looked at Scorpio with a grin and said, "You old guy are quite poisonous!"

James wanted to say more, but his face changed, and he sat down on the ground, panting, "Sidney, finish him. I'm tapped out—can't hold it together anymore."

Meanwhile, Sidney was already behind Scorpio, his blade buried deep in Scorpio's chest. At James' words, he gave the dagger a sharp twist, shattering Scorpio's heart. Scorpio crumpled to the ground, lifeless.

After killing Scorpio, Sidney's face also turned a bit pale, but he still managed to find a few small bottles on Scorpio's body and asked Rose Thorn, "Do you know which one is the antidote?"

Rose Thorn frowned slightly and shook her head. Sidney's face turned pale. On the other side, James' eyes opened slightly, and he said to Sidney, "Give it to me, I'll try."

Sidney tossed the bottles to James and then plopped down, legs crossed, focusing his energy to fight off the poison in his system.

James rifled through the bottles, pulling out a green pill. He gave it a quick taste, closed his eyes to gauge its effect, then tossed it back into the bottle. After testing three bottles, his eyes finally lit up. "Got it—this is the antidote. I'll take it first."

He popped a pill, felt the poison in his body shift toward his fingertips, and quickly channeled his energy to purge it. Once he was clear, he helped Sidney do the same. Then, the two of them walked over to where Rose Thorn lay, taking in the sight of the desperate beauty.

"Mr. Smith, what about her?" Sidney asked.

James shot Sidney a look. He'd always noticed Sidney treated Rose Thorn differently than other women. Was this guy actually into this assassin?

With that thought, James replied coldly, "She's from the Godslayer Organization. Kill her."

Sidney's eyes widened, and he grabbed James' arm. "Why kill her? She's just following orders!"

James responded with a sneer, "Does the NSA let hired guns walk just because they're 'following orders'?”

Sidney's head dropped, his mind racing. After a long pause, he looked up and said, "Mr. Smith, if she's from the Godslayer Organization, she must know their playbook inside out. Why not let her help us and earn some redemption?"

Truth be told, James had the same thought, but he wanted to see how far Sidney would go for her. With a smirk, he replied, "Fine. If you can talk her into it. You've got ten minutes."

After saying that, James threw the antidote to Sidney and turned to leave.

At the cliff, Sidney held the antidote, staring at the out-of-it Rose Thorn. After a moment, he popped the pill, pried her mouth open, and dropped it in.

"Focus your energy to flush the poison out. You heard James—if you cut ties with the Godslayer Organization, we'll let you go. So don't lose hope."

Rose Thorn slowly turned her head, her eyes locking onto his. "Why'd you save me?"

Sidney gave a bitter smile. "I don't know. I just feel like someone like you shouldn't be an assassin. You deserve a normal life."

After saying that, Sidney sighed and turned to leave. Just as he took a few steps, Rose Thorn's voice suddenly sounded behind him, "I know where Ruthless is."

Sidney's body trembled, and when he turned around, he saw Rose Thorn had already sat up, her face somewhat recovered.

Sidney was overjoyed, "Really? That's great, come with us then!"

Rose Thorn frowned slightly and glared at Sidney, "Why should I help you? We're enemies!"

Sidney was at a loss for words, but James' voice suddenly cut in—he'd doubled back without them noticing. "You're not helping us. You're helping yourself. Help me find Ruthless, and I'll handle your problems."

Rose Thorn shot James a skeptical look. "You? How can you protect me?"

Sidney stepped in, urgent. "James is the NSA's chief instructor. If he says he can, he can."

This surprised Rose Thorn. She knew the chief instructor of the National Security Agency had great power, and if James was legit, it might be worth the gamble.

"So? Any other demands? Let's call it a deal," James said coolly.

Rose Thorn paused, then nodded. "Fine, I'll help you. But you keep my info under wraps. I just want to live a normal life. If you screw me over, we're back to being enemies."

James gave a slight smile. "Deal. You're now Sidney's NSA assistant. Clear? Grab your stuff, let's go."

The trio kept moving, and James turned to Bronte. "So, what can you tell us about King?"

Bronte—no longer going by Rose Thorn—shook her head. "King's a ghost. I've never seen him. But he's brutal, doesn't give a damn about lives."

James raised an eyebrow. "Your memory's intact. So why's Ruthless wiped clean?"

Bronte scoffed. "Because Ruthless is a powerhouse. King had to erase her memory to keep her in line. Plus, I heard King treats her different, but who knows why? I've only seen Ruthless a handful of times."

James rubbed his temples. This King was a total enigma. All he knew was he's around level five, but beyond that—nothing.
