Chapter 15 Swaggering

"What did you say?" Jennifer frowned, unsure if she had misheard. This useless man was actually suggesting a divorce to her?

"Let's get a divorce. Since you dislike me so much, we don't need to continue this any longer," James turned around, a smile on his face as he added, "It's perfect. Get divorced from me, and you can openly go find him, right?"

He was smiling, but it was a bitter smile.

Jennifer looked at him, suddenly feeling very unfamiliar, as if meeting James for the first time.

"James, believe it or not, I have never done anything to betray you. There was no physical contact between him and me!" Jennifer's tone was icy as she spoke.

"Really?" James was taken aback.

Jennifer snorted heavily, regaining her cold and arrogant demeanor. "Believe it or not," she insisted.

Seeing Jennifer's expression, which didn't seem like a joke, James felt a lot more relaxed and less angry. Since Jennifer hadn't been touched by that man, strictly speaking, he hadn't been cuckolded... Thinking this, James felt considerably better.

"You've been in secret communication with him for two years, and he never touched you?" James questioned since he still had some doubts.

From the way that man was acting earlier, it was evident that he harbored a significant desire for Jennifer. James seriously doubted that he could hold back for two years.

James was well aware of how alluring his wife was, and he knew not every man possessed the same level of self-restraint as he did.

"I've been married to you for five years. Have you touched me?" Jennifer sneered.

Well, that did make some sense.

With James remaining silent, Jennifer scornfully continued, "Now you can be at ease; I remain as innocent as ever; I haven't made a fool of you. Get lost; I don't want to see your face anymore."

Hiding under the blanket, only her head visible, Jennifer impatiently glared at James, her face still flushed, showing a hint of shyness.

Once James was out, Jennifer hastily climbed out of bed and only exhaled a sigh of relief after she had bolted the door. She patted her chest, triggering a wave of trembling.

Looking at herself in the mirror, wearing only her underwear, Jennifer couldn't help but blush. Thinking about what had just happened, she felt even more embarrassed.

She said, frustratedly, "This useless James actually dared to go against me. He really has some nerve!"

She gritted her teeth, still feeling a bit scared, as she had almost been violated by James just now.

'This useless man really has some nerve!' complained inwardly.

She thought, 'But the crazed look James had just now seemed to exude a strange masculine charm?'

Thinking about how James had pinned her down, the strong male scent emanating from him, Jennifer's heart inexplicably quickened. It was a feeling she had never experienced before.

"I must be hallucinating! It's definitely a hallucination! This guy is just a piece of trash, can't even muster up a fart, how could he have a masculine scent?" Jennifer quickly shook her head, dismissing this absurd thought.

Not long after James left, Jennifer's parents also returned home. As they entered, Dennis began to complain, "Ah, this Phillip is really lucky, finding such a successful son-in-law."

Dennis continued, "Yeah, I envy him so much. Phillip can't even read a word, and his daughter is only average-looking, yet she married a good husband, a leader in the system. Look at our daughter; she's a hundred times prettier than Phillip's daughter, but she found a useless..."

At that moment, James's mother-in-law, Kaitlyn, nudged Dennis gently and whispered, "Don't say anymore. James is here."

Following Kaitlyn's gaze, Dennis saw James, who was looking embarrassed.

James had heard those words.

"What's wrong with being here? Did I say something wrong about him?" Dennis intentionally raised his voice, and said, "He has been in the family for five years now. Has he achieved anything? He doesn't even have a job. I truly regret bringing him in. I've wasted my daughter's good conditions."

Kaitlyn nudged Dennis again, glaring, "That's enough, say less!"

James had heard plenty of such comments before, but Dennis had always complained behind his back. This direct insult in front of him was a first.

To say he had no hard feelings would be a lie.

At that moment, Jennifer emerged from her room after changing clothes and said, "Mom, Dad, weren't you going to buy a gift for Grandpa? Why did you come back so soon?"

"Don't mention it," Dennis sighed. "I went to gamble on stones, found a good piece, and was about to pay for it, but that old bastard Phillip swooped in and snatched it!

What's more infuriating is that when the stone was cut open, it actually revealed a green color, and the quality was good. It could easily sell for at least a hundred thousand!"

Jennifer was surprised and asked, "Is that so? Dad, don't you have a good relationship with the owner of the stone gambling shop? You even had dinner together last week."

Hearing this, Dennis got even more irritated, and stated, "What good is a friendly relationship? Phillip's son-in-law is an official in the government, carrying a lot of clout. With just a word, he had Mr. Rogers scampering to sell top-quality raw stones to Phillip at a whopping 30% discount!

"A stone that was originally worth just over a thousand dollars, Phillip unearthed a precious jade worth a hundred grand from it. Sigh, Phillip has hit the jackpot this time!"

Then he looked at James, sarcastically saying, "Both are sons-in-law, but the difference is huge."

James kept his head down, pretending not to have heard. He had become somewhat numb to such words.

Before, he had to endure, but now he didn't care as much. He was about to unleash his potential, and once he did, he wouldn't have to live through these days of humiliation anymore.

As soon as the words fell, a loud voice came from outside the door, "Dennis, weren't you going to buy a nice jade for your father-in-law? How come you're back so soon?"

As the voice died away, four people walked in. In addition to Phillip and his daughter and son-in-law, there was also a middle-aged man dressed in a suit.

When Phillip appeared, Dennis' expression darkened even more. "Phillip, do you really need to flaunt your success after getting such a big advantage?" he asked.

"Oh, Dennis, what are you saying? We've been good friends for many years. How could I flaunt my success in front of you?" Phillip pretended to look unhappy.

Dennis frowned and said, "Then why did you come over?"

Phillip took a piece of jade from his bag. Already a quarter revealed, it showed a jadeite foot. The color wasn't exceptionally pure, but it was a good piece of jade that could sell for thirty thousand dollars. By finishing the reveal, it could easily sell for over a hundred thousand.

"I've heard that your father-in-law has a passion for collecting fine jade. We've been good friends for many years, and I want to gift you this piece of jade. Its quality is exceptional, and once fully revealed, it could easily be valued at a hundred thousand dollars. I'm offering it to you for eighty thousand. Isn't that a friendly gesture?" Phillip said with a sincere smile. If James hadn't been observant, he might have been fooled.
