Chapter 139: What an Idiot!
James had quite a bit to drink tonight, and he reeked of alcohol. It felt uncomfortable as the alcohol seemed to cling to his skin. Seeing that Jennifer had no intention of changing rooms, he put down his luggage and went to take a shower.
However, there was an awkward situation: the bathroom had frosted glass without any curtains, so Jennifer could see quite clearly from the outside while James was showering.
Jennifer didn't notice at first, but when she saw the outline on the frosted glass, she was stunned. Her face instantly turned red, and she quickly averted her gaze, her heart racing.
Soon, she couldn't help but look slowly at the glass.
Through the frosted glass, she could clearly see the outline of James's body, with beautiful lines full of masculine charm.
Even though they had been married for so long, it was the first time she had seen James without clothes. Even through the frosted glass, she felt a thrill, a sense of voyeuristic excitement.
And most importantly, she hadn't expected James to have such a good physique.
Especially certain prominent features, which made her blush and feel incredibly shy!
She really wanted to stop looking, but she just couldn't control herself.
When James finished his shower and walked towards her, the closer he got, the clearer she could see, and her heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest.
"I never noticed he had such a good body before," she murmured.
Watching James slowly get dressed, Jennifer actually felt a bit disappointed.
James came out of the bathroom and saw Jennifer's flushed face and strange expression. Curious, he asked, "Is it hot in the room?"
"No." Jennifer dodged his gaze.
"Then why is your face so red?"
Jennifer touched her face, which indeed felt a bit warm. Panicking inside and not knowing how to respond, she simply glared at James and snapped, "None of your business!"
James was baffled by her retort and found Jennifer's behavior increasingly odd.
'Could it be that her mood was so bad because of what happened tonight? That must be it.'
James thought it best to leave Jennifer alone for now and not provoke her.
But when Jennifer saw that James really wasn't saying anything, she got even angrier. She silently cursed James for being as dense as a log. She told him not to care, and he really didn't care!
'James was such an Idiot!' she thought.
Sensing Jennifer's resentment, James became even more cautious and kept his distance. After drying his hair, he looked around but couldn't find a long sofa. The room only had single chairs, and he didn't know where to sleep. 'Am I supposed to sleep on the floor?' he thought.
Jennifer noticed his predicament and said, "Sleep on the bed, idiot."
James looked at her warily, full of doubt about her words. Based on his understanding of Jennifer, he thought she was probably testing him, so he shook his head and said, "No, I'll just sleep on the table."
Jennifer got angry immediately. "I told you to sleep on the bed, so sleep on the bed!"
James took a small step back and shook his head, saying, "No, I can't sleep on a waterbed. I'll be fine on the table."
"You!" Jennifer was infuriated. James's fearful demeanor made her very angry as if she were some kind of terrifying monster. She coldly said, "I'll count to three. If you don't come over, you'll face the consequences. One, two..."
James hurried over. "I'm coming, I'm coming."
As soon as he lay down, the whole waterbed started to shake, and Jennifer, who was also on the bed, shook along with it.
"Did you get drunk on purpose tonight?"
With the lights off, the room was dim, and Jennifer asked softly.
"Yes." James nodded.
"How did you figure out that Terry was sent by Curtis?" Jennifer was very curious about this.
James said, "I didn't know that for sure. I just noticed that Terry had ulterior motives and was deliberately getting me drunk, so I pretended to be drunk to see what's his plan."
Jennifer bit her lip and said, "Then why didn't you give me a heads-up?"
"I did. You just didn't catch on," James whispered. He had given Jennifer several looks at the table, but she hadn't picked up on them.
"Really?" Jennifer recalled that James had indeed given her a few looks, which she had ignored.
The room fell silent again. After a while, Jennifer said, "Thanks for what you did tonight."
"You're welcome." James's voice sounded a bit tired.
After another half-minute, Jennifer spoke again. "James, I'm ovulating today. If you want a child, it's your best chance."
After saying this, she was extremely nervous, her breathing quickening.
In fact, she had long since stopped rejecting James. After what happened that night, she decided to accept James and share her real thoughts.
After a week of pretending, she had secretly gone online to learn about the things between a husband and wife. She knew what it was all about; it wouldn't be painful but rather quite pleasant.
They had been married for so long, and it was about time they completed this part of their relationship.
She had actually decided that this year, she would find the right moment to give herself to James, whether as a reward or to fulfill her marital duties. After all, this was something that was bound to happen sooner or later.
She knew James had been looking forward to this for a long time. As long as she took the initiative, James would definitely not refuse.
However, she didn't expect that after she said this, there was no response from James.
"James, let's—" She was about to say it.
At this moment, James did respond, but not with words—he was snoring.
He had actually fallen asleep!
Jennifer was so angry she almost kicked him.
But when she saw his tired and sleeping face in the dim light, her dissatisfaction faded, replaced by a gentle feeling. It seemed James was indeed exhausted.
She softly called him an idiot, then slowly fell asleep as well.
She slept surprisingly well, all the way until morning, feeling refreshed.
The next day, Jennifer went to see a middle school friend, Barbara Alexander, who had married and moved to Pearl Peak City. Coincidentally, Barbara's husband was a well-known local doctor. Jennifer wanted to see if she could use Barbara's husband to connect with other channels.
"Jennifer, you look even more beautiful after all these years."
At the dining table, a slightly plump woman adorned with jewelry said to Jennifer, her tone tinged with jealousy. She was Jennifer's middle school friend, Barbara.
Next to her was a bespectacled, overweight man who looked to be in his thirties. Ever since he saw Jennifer, his eyes had been fixed on her.
Jennifer smiled and said, "Barbara, stop teasing me. How can I compare to you? Your accessories alone must be worth a hundred thousand dollars."
Barbara smiled. "A hundred thousand dollars wouldn't be enough. Just my handbag costs a hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Adding my necklace, clothes, rings, and shoes, it's about four hundred thousand dollars."
"Four hundred thousand dollars?" A hint of envy flashed in Jennifer's eyes. She had never dressed so lavishly.
"Yes," Barbara said, smiling proudly. "My husband gave them to me for our wedding anniversary this year. He really spoils me. By the way, Jennifer, what does your husband give you for your wedding anniversary?"
