Chapter 104: Stubborn Persistence
"Michael, long time no see." James greeted Michael as he approached.
Michael nodded and curiously asked, "How do you know I am here?"
James didn't hide anything and smiled. "Ms. Brown asked me to come over."
"Harmony?" Michael was slightly taken aback and immediately looked over at Harmony, his eyes questioning, "Why did you call James over?"
Harmony's expression was cold, a stark contrast to her lively demeanor in front of James. She said indifferently, "James was curious, so he came to take a look."
Orlando coughed, getting back into his role, and the incantations he chanted grew louder and louder.
His stamina was quite impressive. He had been performing for a long time without getting out of breath, with only a slight sweat on his forehead. His movements were quite convincing, much like the exorcist protagonists in old zombie movies.
Common people would be easily fooled.
The more James watched the scene, the deeper his frown became. Orlando was clearly performing a haphazard ritual that was useless for solving the problem. He was merely temporarily blocking the evil spirit's energy. By midnight tonight, the evil spirit's energy would become even more intense, and by then, it wouldn't just be some small accidents.
Harmony noticed James's expression and walked over, lowering her voice to ask, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
James's mouth moved, and after hesitating for a moment, he said, "Where did you find this so-called Taoist master? He's a fraud. If he keeps this up, the situation will only get worse."
James had already put it very mildly. If Orlando continued, the situation would be far worse; people could die by tomorrow.
Harmony immediately became nervous upon hearing this. "He was invited by Michael. He said he's the most powerful master in Lindwood City; with him here, the problem should be solved."
"Alright." James was speechless. He felt this so-called master was a total shameless fraud.
When Orlando was about to slaughter an animal on the spot and sprinkle its blood on the ground, James couldn't hold back any longer. He stepped forward and said, "You can't sprinkle animal's blood on the ground. This will only exacerbate the backlash of the evil spirit's energy."
He spoke loudly, once again drawing everyone's attention.
Orlando's face immediately darkened. "Who do you think you are, daring to question me?"
Michael was also startled by James and quickly pulled him aside, lowering his voice. "What are you doing? This is the most famous Taoist master in Lindwood City. How can you be so disrespectful?"
He then quickly turned to Orlando and said, "Mr. Wolf, this is my friend. He didn't mean to question you. I apologize on his behalf. Please don't take his words to heart."
Orlando's expression softened a bit upon hearing Michael's plea. He glared fiercely at James. "I'll let it slide this time because Mr. Brown pleaded for you. Otherwise, you will regret what you have said to me."
Michael said to James, "Words can bring trouble. Mr. Wolf is a great master, not someone to provoke..."
However, before Michael could finish his sentence, James stepped forward again. He said in a deep voice, "Animal's blood can only deal with ordinary evil spirits, but the evil spirit energy in this land is filled with resentment. Using blood will only temporarily suppress the spread of the evil spirit energy. After 4 AM tonight, it will lose its effect. By then, the suppressed evil spirit energy will become even more intense, and the consequences will be very serious."
Everyone looked at him as if he were a fool. Even Michael, who had always trusted him, frowned in displeasure at this moment.
Because of these incidents, Michael hadn't slept well for the past half month and was very irritable. He finally managed to invite Orlando through a friend's introduction and spent a lot of money to solve the problem. Unexpectedly, at this critical moment, James appeared and interrupted Orlando.
Michael had always had a high regard for James; young as he was, his medical skills were superb. He was neither arrogant nor submissive, maintaining a calm and reserved demeanor—a real diamond in the rough. If it weren’t for the fact that Michael knew James was married, he would have matched Harmony to him.
But now, James was questioning Orlando.
Instantly, Michael's good impression of James dropped significantly.
Who was Orlando? A truly capable person. And James? Just a doctor, he didn't know anything about the Taoist.
To Michael, James's behavior now seemed completely overconfident and lacking self-awareness.
Orlando laughed in anger. "Alright! I've never been questioned since I was a child. Everyone calls me a Taoist master. Who do you think you are to question me? Fine, then tell me, if I don't use animal blood, what should be used to suppress the evil spirit here?"
James ignored his intimidation and calmly said, "The evil spirit energy here is not just in one place and is very fierce. Blood cannot be seen; otherwise, it will not only fail to dispel the evil spirit's energy but make it worse, having the opposite effect. We must first find the source of the evil spirit energy. If I'm not mistaken, the source should be some scattered bones, which is why the resentment is so strong..."
"Nonsense!" Orlando interrupted James impatiently, rudely pointing at James's nose and scolding, "I thought you had some skills, but you're just an ordinary person who knows nothing. Wasting my time, get out of here!"
Seeing that James still wanted to speak, Michael finally couldn't hold back and shouted, "James! What do you know? Stop talking nonsense!"
"Michael..." James frowned.
"Enough!" Michael said discontentedly, "We don't need you here. Go away."
Faced with Michael's words, James felt helpless and angry. He had good intentions but was looked down upon. Even Michael didn't believe him, so he didn't want to stay any longer. James had an easygoing nature, which didn't mean he had no temper.
Orlando watched his departing figure, sneered disdainfully, and poured the blood from the basin onto the ground.
