Chapter 452 The Three Major Families
On James's side, he and Brandy walked out of the Serenity Haven Hotel, looking relaxed. The recent events hadn't affected him at all. His calm demeanor made him even more mysterious and attractive in Brandy's eyes.
Brandy followed behind him, nervously clutching the hem of her shirt.
As they reached the street, James stopped, but the absent-minded Brandy didn't notice and bumped into his back.
Brandy blushed, "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," James said with a smile. "What happened earlier is over. You don't need to think too much about it. Just go about your business."
Brandy glanced up at James and then quickly looked down again, appearing flustered and nervous, responding airily.
"Are you scared?" James asked.
"No," Brandy shook her head quickly, denying it, but her demeanor made it clear she wasn't convincing anyone.
James smiled and said, "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. Brandy, I have some wordsthat you might not like to hear."
Brandy softly said, "You want to tell me not to trust Juniper so easily in the future, right?"
James, unfazed by the revelation, knew that Brandy's innocence didn't mean she was stupid. On the contrary, she was a highly intelligent scholar. She had naturally realized that Juniper was trying to harm her tonight.
"It's not just Juniper. You need to be cautious and wary of the people around you in the future. Society has both kind and malicious sides. Some things, once they happen, can't be undone and can cause lifelong regrets," James said seriously.
Brandy's eyes showed a hint of gratitude as she nodded vigorously and said, "Okay! I'll be more careful in the future. Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Smith."
"That's good." James nodded.
After a moment of silence, Brandy looked up again and cautiously asked, "Mr. Smith, are you really the owner of the Serenity Haven Hotel?"
James thought for a moment and said, "Sort of."
Even though she had already guessed it, hearing James admit it still shocked Brandy greatly. The Serenity Haven Hotel was a five-star hotel in a prime location in the City of Mysteries, with an investment of at least a billion dollars. And it was James's property. How wealthy must James be?
The key point was that James didn't seem much older than her, yet he was so rich. The term "young and wealthy" didn't even describe James's status. Moreover, James looked so ordinary, wore cheap clothes, had excellent medical skills, and even lectured at a university.
These traits were completely different from her understanding of a millionaire.
Especially the aura James exuded, which didn't resemble that of a rich second generation at all.
"Mr. Smith, since you're so wealthy, why do you still want to be a teacher?"
"Why, can't rich people be teachers?" James said with a smile. Brandy quickly shook her head and said, "No, that's not what I mean."
James patted her shoulder and said, "Just kidding, you don't need to be nervous. Alright, let's part ways here. This is my phone number. If you have any problems in the City of Mysteries, just call me."
"Mr. Smith." Brandy cooed.
"What's up?" James turned back after taking a few steps.
Brandy bit her lip, staring intently at James, and then said, "Thank you."
James smiled, revealing a set of white, neat teeth, waved his hand, and walked away gracefully.
Brandy watched his figure intently, clenched her fists, and murmured to herself, "Mr. Smith, thank you for what you did for me tonight."
James didn't return to the Smith family immediately but stayed in the City of Mysteries for another day before returning to the Smith family the next day.
The Smith family.
One of the three major families in the City of Mysteries, comparable to the Ward family and the Stewart family, and a prominent family in all of Sunlandia.
Originally, among the three major families, the Smith family was the strongest, more powerful than the Ward family and the Stewart family. But over the past five years, due to James's mysterious disappearance, the Smith family's strength had declined. Some families and forces that had originally followed the Smith family also began to distance themselves.
Meanwhile, the geniuses in the Ward family and the Stewart family had made significant breakthroughs, increasing their strength. Without James's suppression, their power had grown considerably.
As a result, the Smith family, once the strongest among the three major families, had gradually fallen behind the Ward family and the Stewart family, becoming the weakest of the three.
If it weren't for Alistair's assertive management, the gap between the Smith family and the Ward family and the Stewart family would have widened even further.
But everyone knew that if this continued, and if no one as brilliant as James emerged from the younger generation of the Smith family, they would definitely be outmatched by the Ward family and the Stewart family. No matter how capable Alistair was, he was already over eighty years old and couldn't lead for much longer. There had to be someone excellent enough to take over Alistair's position and compete with the Ward family and the Stewart family.
Currently, the most outstanding members of the younger generation in the Smith family were Usher and Wylie, but they still fell short compared to the strongest members of the Ward family and the Stewart family.
Today, James had returned. He came back without informing anyone, returning alone.
Soon, he stood once again in front of the Smith family estate, looking up at the grand and majestic mansion that covered half the hillside, resembling a palace.
He had grown up here and should have been extremely familiar with it. But now, standing here, he felt a sense of unfamiliarity.
With a deep breath, he stepped forward to ring the doorbell.
Inside the estate, two guards were chatting with four gardeners.
"You guys are new here, so you don't know how glorious our Smith family used to be. The Ward family and the Stewart family were ranked behind us."
"Really? Then why is the Smith family now not as good as the Ward family and the Stewart family?"
"That's because the most powerful heir in the history of our Smith family mysteriously disappeared five years ago."
One of the gardeners immediately expressed doubt, "I've heard of him. His name is James, the eldest grandson of the leader, Saxon's son. But no matter how powerful he was, he was just one person. His influence on the dynamics of the three major families couldn't have been that significant, right?"
"So, you're new here and know nothing! That's because you haven't seen James. When James was around, the Smith family's strength was unparalleled. James was a genius among geniuses, an immensely formidable figure. Which of the Ward or Stewart family's prodigies hasn't been defeated by James? When James was here, they wouldn't have dared to be so audacious."
"Is that true? If James is so remarkable, why did he disappear?"
