Chapter 163 Someone Wants to See You
After leaving the café, Harmony got into her car but didn’t drive off immediately. Instead, she sat there, lost in thought. Her emotions were in turmoil, not because of Jared, but because of James.
'Had she lost her feelings for Jared because of James?' She thought to herself.
This made her inner conflict all the more intense. She knew she was attracted to James, but rationally, she understood that it was wrong because she and James could never be together. The more she tried to restrain herself, the stronger her feelings for James grew, taking root and flourishing in her heart.
'No, this absolutely couldn't continue!' She seemed to make a resolution.
Her eyes were determined. She closed them, forcing herself to think of James's defects, recalling the sleazy and incompetent image he had left her with before.
But even though she tried hard to think about it, the image became increasingly blurry, replaced more and more by his recent image.
It wasn't until her phone rang that she snapped back to reality. Finally, she sighed, unable to help herself, "If only James weren't Jennifer's husband..."
The moment she said it, she was startled, her heart racing. She quickly shook her head to rid herself of such a terrifying thought and focused on driving.
On James's side, he was sneezing, and causing Jennifer beside him to roll her eyes. "Why are you sneezing out of nowhere?"
"Oh, sorry," James said casually.
Jennifer glared at him, "Go away, don't disturb my work."
"Uh..."
James felt helpless and said, "I can help if you need anything."
"Forget it. Just leave this room to me; I have lots of things to do. Otherwise, when my parents come, they'll say I'm mistreating you," Jennifer said with a hint of bitterness.
Ever since James stood up for Dennis last time, Dennis's attitude towards him had completely changed. He treated James like a treasure, always giving him big plates of food and scolding Jennifer whenever he saw James working at the clinic. This had made Jennifer quite upset.
James felt awkward about it, too.
However, seeing Jennifer jealous and envious was quite satisfying to James.
In the end, since he couldn't help, James had to leave the clinic, planning to go to market.
But halfway there, James suddenly stopped, frowning slightly. Then, a meaningful smile appeared on his lips. Someone was following him—interesting.
Pretending not to notice, he continued walking. Soon, he had a clear picture of the stalkers' positions and appearances. There were four of them, all ordinary guys with some skills.
'Could they have been sent by Curtis?' He wondered.
A cold glint flashed in James's eyes. If Curtis still dared to target him and Jennifer, he wouldn't mind making Curtis disappear from the earth!
Walking into a relatively deserted alley, the four stalkers finally couldn't hold back and revealed themselves, surrounding James from the front and back.
"James, someone wants to see you. Come with us."
These men were all strong and had a menacing air about them, clearly not good people. Their presence would intimidate any ordinary person.
James feigned a frightened expression. "Who are you? I don't have any money on me; I'm just poor."
Seeing James's pale and terrified face, they all showed disdain and contempt, their nerves relaxing. One of them said with a fierce look, "Cut the crap! Just come with us, or don't blame us for being rude!"
The four burly men stepped forward, tightly surrounding James. They cracked their knuckles, their eyes full of malice. If James dared to say no, their fists would immediately land on his head.
Seeing this formation, James appeared even more scared, his legs trembling and stammering. "You, you are kidnapping, this is illegal."
"Shut up!" One of the men shoved James hard, nearly knocking him over. The others joined in with threats, and James, seemingly terrified, obediently followed them.
After walking out of the alley, a car was parked by the roadside.
"Get in."
The man behind James gave him another push, his tone impatient.
James, looking weak and angry but not daring to speak out, obediently got in.
By now, he was almost certain that the person looking for him wasn't Curtis.
So he was very curious, who could it be? Besides Curtis, it seemed no one else had such a big grudge against him.
He began analyzing.
'Those with grudges, John and Eugene, were still in prison, and Loren didn't have such a big grudge against him. Since it wasn't Curtis, who else could it be?'
"Who sent you?" James asked directly.
Once in the car, the four burly men surrounded James from all sides, not moving an inch.
"Shut up and you'll find out soon enough," one of them said.
At this moment, another burly man said, "Why are you so fierce? After all, we are just bringing him to our boss; we don’t know what the boss will do to him."
"You are right, that's true."
Though they said this, they still didn't tell James who their boss was.
However, from their conversation, James had already roughly guessed.
"We're here, get out!" they yelled.
James was pushed out of the car. Looking around, he saw it was an underground warehouse.
Inside, there were a dozen luxury cars.
Soon, James met the mysterious boss.
It was a handsome man, none other than Jared, whom he had met once before.
At this moment, Jared was playing pool with two sexy women.
"Boss, I've brought the man," the burly man said respectfully in front of Jared.
Jared didn't respond immediately. He took his shot, watched the ball sink into the pocket, then turned to face James.
His cold eyes scanned James from head to toe, taking in his cheap clothes and worn shoes. The sight filled Jared with disdain and resentment.
'I had actually lost to such an ordinary person?' Jared thought to himself.
Jared felt as if he had swallowed something vile. If he had lost to some rich heir or a capable social elite, he would have felt better. But James was just such an ordinary person; even his driver was far superior to James!
Thinking about this, Jared felt humiliated.
In that moment, Jared wondered if he had the right person. How could someone like Harmony be interested in such an unremarkable man?
