Chapter 380 James, You're So Awesome
Most folks out there might not get what this really meant. But being a Jenkins, Walter knew just how badass a martial artist with inner energy could be. He'd always dreamed of becoming one himself, but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't crack it.
Becoming a martial artist was no piece of cake; it was like a total game-changer. Out of a thousand people training, maybe not even one made it. Cultivating true energy was tough as nails; it wasn't just about hard work. Talent and a bit luck were in need as well.
The techniques to become a martial artist weren't exactly top-secret in high society; lots of folks knew about them, but not many could pull it off
The Jenkins family was a big deal in Starlight State. But even they only had three martial artists, and they were all old-timers. If Walter could break through, his status in the family would skyrocket.
But no matter how much he tried, he just couldn't get there.
Even with the old pros guiding him, he still couldn't break through. That feeling of being stuck had been eating at him for years.
But now, right here, he ran into a martial artist, and it was someone from Skylantis coming to throw down. He was super nervous.
As soon as he finished talking, Thistle was already in James's face, throwing a punch that looked like it came from his gut, his fist spinning so fast it seemed to heat up the air. If it hit James, it would feel like his whole body was on fire.
The power behind that punch was insane; everyone there could feel it. Even Emberlyn, who always believed in James, started to get worried.
But James just slapped out, moving way slower than Thistle's punch without turning a hair.
Thistle saw James not dodging and even daring to strike back. He sneered, thinking James was an idiot.
He knew how powerful his punch was. If it hit, even an iron plate would show his fist mark, and a human body was no way it could take it.
This guy from Sunlandia, taking his punch head-on, would be sent flying, if not dead, then seriously messed up.
His punch was way faster than James's slap. By the time he hit James's chest, James would be airborne, so how could James still slap him? James must be a fool.
But what happened next totally blew his mind.
The punch landed square on James's chest, but the scene Thistle imagined didn't happen. James didn't budge, not even a little. It was like the punch hit a pillow, all the force just absorbed. Then, James's slap connected with Thistle's face. Thistle felt like he'd been smacked by a freight train, his head nearly snapping off.
Next thing Thistle knew, he was airborne, rolling off the stage.
The whole club, packed with over five hundred people, went dead silent. Everyone was just standing there, jaws on the floor.
Walter was so shocked he bit his tongue, feeling the pain but too stunned to yell, just staring at James, who was calmly straightening his clothes on stage.
Emberlyn was over the moon. She was all about James, holding her face and shouting, "James, you're so awesome."
Then she ran up and hugged him, not caring one bit about appearances, clinging to him and kissing his face like crazy.
"Emberlyn, are you nuts? Get off me now!" James, with his hands behind his back, was about to say something when Emberlyn, like a madwoman, ran up and her kisses rained down on him, covering his face with slobber.
Emberlyn held onto James tightly, grinning like a fool.
James tried to shake her off a few times but no luck. Finally, he resorted to his old trick of tickling her, making her let go. He quickly wiped the slobber off his face with his sleeve and said, "You're in your twenties, but you act like a kid. Aren't you embarrassed?"
"James, you're blushing," Emberlyn said with a cheeky grin.
James thougt Emberlyn was just excited, bold and outgoing as always. He rolled his eyes and said, "This is the last time I'm putting up with this. I won't come next time. Also, you should head back soon; your family is worried about you."
Emberlyn hugged James more tightly, her face full of admiration and excitement, leaving him totally helpless.
Meanwhile, Thistle, who took that slap, was already on the brink. James's slap had some serious force, with inner energy that burst a bunch of blood vessels and gave him a concussion. He wouldn't turn into an idiot, but he'd never be the same, and his strength would take a nosedive.
That was the price for coming to challenge and insult Sunlandia.
The other four from Skylantis looked at James like he was a monster. A spasm of horror gripped them
They didn't stick around, quickly grabbing the unconscious Thistle and bolting without looking back.
With that, James became the center of attention.
It took about five seconds for someone to snap out of it, feeling amazed and full of admiration for James.
The women who had looked down on him earlier, now were eyeing him with a mix of admiration and flirtation. With just one word from James, they'd throw themselves at him, letting him do whatever he wanted.
